Biden has a cardiac arrhythmia associated with a major risk of stroke and a 40x increase odds of dementia - he takes blood thinning medication to reduce these risks but this does not eliminate them. As a hospitalist, if an ER doctor called me and presented a case of a 77 year old man with afib who just completely blanked out repeatedly in front of his family, I'd place him into observation with a cardiac monitor and get an MRI of his brain, because I would be concerned for mini strokes -- if no stroke was found, I would bet a million dollars significant brain atrophy would be found, and he would be referred for neurocognitive testing for dementia versus MCI. If it's only MCI, medication can be started to prevent it from progressing. If he were my family member, I would pull him off the campain trail. This is awful to see, it reminds me of when they keep pushing musical performers who need major help onto the stage bc the gravy train is rolling.

A good SAT analogy would be, these lapses are to what might be going on in the brain, sas chest pain is to what might be going on in the heart. If Bernie Sanders were repeatedly gripping his chest and wincing on the campaign trail, having sustained a heart attack, I am willing to bet media would not be silent about it.
