In this lesson we tackle the Mount Everest of Western Swing/Country Jazz guitar.. Jimmy Bryant's "Bryant's Bounce". It may appear to be complicated and technically demanding, but I guarantee that as we break it down, piece by piece, it'll seem much more manageable and you'll be bouncing along at full tempo in no time! ;)

The Patreon exclusive Chords lesson video will be out shortly so watch this space! 👀

P.S: New (Novo) guitar day!

Love it! I’ve been trying to learn this one for years by ear but I like your take on it the best! Now I know what I’m working on this week (or weeks!) Thanks for these amazing lessons and extra ideas and embellishment suggestions.

Nick Whalen

Great lesson. I love that Novo, too! Those P90s ring clear as a bell 🙂

tyler taube

Impressive! Great rendition. Question…are you constructing this arrangement by ear? Or, bits and pieces of available sheet music or archival content?

Alex Farran Guitar

Hey Tyler.. thank you buddy! Oh absolutely!.. I always do EVERYTHING by ear myself from scratch. I would never trust any other source to be as obsessive about the detail! 🤪 Plus I genuinely enjoy the whole process of getting to know a tune from square one.. it’s literally the way I learned to play. ☺️

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Nick! Yeah I’m really falling fast for this guitar! My only (minor) gripe is that the bridge pickup is a bit too dark for my tastes.. easy to fix that though of course.

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah man, it’s absolutely my pleasure! Thanks for the enthusiasm! 🙏🏻

Ty Miller

Thanks for another good Can't go wrong with this great stuff🤗🤗🤗

Thanks for another good one Can't go wrong with this unique material😎😎😎

Alex Farran Guitar

Cheers Ty, glad you enjoyed it! Learning a piece like this is a quick way to progress for sure! 👌🏻

Michael Clark

Hey guys - yeah, I immediately noticed the addition of the Novo to Alex's seemingly *burgeoning* collection of very cool guitars as well! :-O. Great looks, great sound! I don't think I'm familiar with this brand of P90s - Fralin, is it? I'm curious, Alex, what you have in mind for addressing the bridge pickup's "darkness" - replacing it with another P90 brand or some kind of tweaking to the stock model that Novo are using here?

Lovee Love Love your teaching style, my arpeggios studies are really paying off with this lesson. the way you break down the parts indicating the tones with scale degree numbers is awesome, now when I here you say just add the 6 to the major arpeggio, I can follow along much easier. thanks for all you do. this will be a few month lesson for me, as I am just finishing up the first 12 bars of your delta blues video, that was a tough one, I have been working on it since you first posted. I have been determined to learn that one and the hard work is starting to pay off. your quickly becoming my favorite guitar player on you tube, just behind jack ruche cheers. and thanks again for such great lessons.

Alex Farran Guitar

Yeah I think I’ll likely stick with a P90 but go for a lower wind which will increase the brightness a little. I’ll also do some research into various other ways to get more brightness in a P90 (magnet choice, wire gauge etc). I really love this guitar so it’s certainly a keeper!.. so yeah, the bridge pickup experiments will start fairly soon I reckon!.. I’ll keep you posted! 👍🏻

Michael Clark

Very cool. Good luck with the experimentation. I'll definitely be paying attention to how you get to your desired result here - it'll be instructive as always - and I have to say "instructive in a way that I never anticipated when I signed up for a subscription to your fabulous lessons, Alex!" That is, the great song and stylistic choices and the accompanying notation / documentation are one thing - and bang on in terms of exceeding my wildest expectations! - but this additional technical / hardware knowledge (P90 windings!) is the proverbial cream on top!

Alex Farran Guitar

That's so good to hear Scott, thank you for the comment! Glad you're enjoying my lessons so much! 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Michael, that's so good to hear! Glad you're enjoying being a member here my friend! Will certainly keep you posted re; pickups 🙏🏻

Michael Sosebee

This tune would not be my taste but for teaching an adroit handling on the fret-board of a tedious tune, practicing this lead is worth the time spent. Hopefully it'll grow on me. Thanks again for these great lessons!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Michael, yes well worthy of your practice time, even if not your usual cuppa tea ;)
