Another lesson teaser, this time with a Christmas theme. Just yesterday I filmed a detailed breakdown of this, and we cover a surprising amount of deep ideas in relation to how to choose the right chord voicings, and a neat way to think about Tonic chord relationships!

In fact, this may be the lesson I release this Saturday, and save the Ribot/Blues triads one for the week after... not yet decided!

Ribot vs Santa ? Haha, so easy. I hate Christmas 😂

Andy sims

Lovely Alex, another vote from me!

Marinho Del Santo

Intriguing and beautiful...I look forward to receiving both. By the way, sharing some experience. I looked at Ted Greene ideas (website). Well...maybe one day... I certainly prefer your guidance, Alex!

Eric Mintz

Great tune by Vince Guaraldi and your choices for harmonization tickle my ears (that sad and lonely dissonant Db @ 1:11?!). I love sad Xmas songs, and this is a great one. (See also I'll Be Home for Xmas and Blue Xmas.)

Jack Thrift

Yes! Please release this one first.

David

Amazing!!! What kind of reverb is that? Thanks!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks David, it's the fantastic Walrus Audio Fathom pedal in "lo-fi" mode. I have the modulation set to "low" to add just a hint of detune to the reverb.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Eric.. glad you liked that chord.. we have such similar tastes it seems! ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you mi amigo! Ted Greene was such a genius, so if I can help to make his ideas even 1% clearer, I'll be happy with that! Many more lessons in his style coming soon :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks mate, glad you're excited for it! Turned out to be a deeper lesson than I'd thought with some tasty chord moves in!

Alex Farran Guitar

Aw man, I'm sorry you don't like Christmas! I hope you can find some small amount of joy in this (sad and nostalgic) Christmas standard! ;)

Michael Friedman

This looks doable. Post it so we have a chance to get it down before Christmas!

GoofyRaf

Well, I don’t feel alone in this team, don’t worry. Enjoy Christmas, I’ll enjoy your vids 😉

Marinho Del Santo

Certainly not 1%. Much much more. And, fully applicable and understandable is 95%. Fully unpractical is 0%. Why 95%? It becomes 100% when it sounds good in your guitar! Gracias mi amigo. I am Brazilian-Italian. So, just for fun...muito obrigado, meu amigo (Portuguese) and grazie mille, amico mio (Italian). The one that I like the most is "thank you, my friend". Most likely, I will be understood by all, if I do not make a terrible grammar mistake, of course...Sorry for it!

William Dawson

That was beautiful, Alex. I'm assuming that many of your viewers are" jazzers". I'm relatively new to all of it and you are leading the way for me! Thank you for that. Though did check out Ted's stuff based on your high regards of the mans proccess. Since Christmas is right around the corner.... drop this number on Sat..and maybe there's a small chance that I can serenade my family with a facsimile by then. More than likely they will hear me play it around Easter! 😉 Then comes the triad vid.... Your the best Cat on you tube bro! 🙏

MarkF

Yup gotta love that Xmas chestnut so that’s my pick but cool with whatever you decide

Patrick McKinney

Yeah this one, would be cool if you talked some about soloing over the changes too.

John Olenski

Tis the season! Love Vince Guaraldi's body of work and dig your arrangement. Thanks for all you share.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Patrick, filmed and edited the lesson before your comment so unfortunately no lead work on this one, but plenty of cool chord manoeuvres 👌🏻😎

Ian Cowan

Perfect. Love chord melody and Christmas time is the season of chord melody. Quite challenging this one... but nailing couple bars at a time before moving on... Thoughts with you this Christmas with the passing of Louis.

Paul Scafidi

Either lesson would be great, but this is sweet.

Paul Scafidi

I miss seeing Louis in your videos. I’m sure you miss him 1000 times more. I hope you find joy in his memory this season and always.❤️

John Petitt

Beautiful (and you make it look effortless)!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Paul, I appreciate that. I miss him more than words can say 🙏🏻🧡

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Ian, that means a lot to me. All the best to you and yours 🙏🏻🧡

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah thank you William! I really appreciate the kind words! I’m so glad you’re delving into chord melody! It’s such a satisfying approach to guitar. I hope you have a great Christmas dude 🙏🏻🧡

Tim

Beautiful! Thank you for doing this one, looking forward to it!

Christian Guitare

I'been working on your lessons for two months and really like it.

Christian Guitare

I would like to ask you if could do a triads and rhythm lesson on "What's going on" or "The ghetto" or "Mercy mercy mercy"

Christian Guitare

thanks a lot for your really great playing and sorry for my English...

Gert De Groof

Choosing equals losing…though in this case I think we’ll be gaining anyhow…

Jerome Oks

Vince Guaraldi this week. Word.

BRETT STRACHAN

chords are so lush and full on that guitar... the guy playing is cool too .... hey Alex any chance you could do a lesson on "Whispering"?

Lillefar

I love this time of the year when the Christmas lessons appear. I know it´s not a lot of time left before Christmas. Will you maybe next year consider making a Christmas lesson that is more on the easier side? Some of us might find Ted Greene and "Christmas time is here" a bit to challenging. (Maybe something in the same difficult levels as the "Jamming with Jimmie - lesson?) Merry Christmas and thanks for all your great lessons this year! :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha thanks Brett! :) Oh yes, Whispering is a great idea! I'll get to that soon!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks buddy, that's a great idea. I can already picture some kind of rockabilly/jimmie rivers/surf-esque version of "Jingle Bell Rock". I'll sort that out for next year! :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Your English is excellent my friend, no need to apologise! I'll add Mercy Mercy Mercy, and What's Going On to the lessons list for you :)
