As well as being a good excuse to show off the bridge pickup on this new tele of mine, and along with Rosie's fantastic sleeping ability, this video also shows how my process works when it comes to creating these lessons. When it comes to lead studies, this is always the first step: pick a progression, (in this case, the first few bars of the country classic "Sweet Dreams"), pop it down in the looper and just record the first things that come to mind, freely improvising. Sometimes these recordings can be 10 minutes or more, and as they go on, I start to hone in on particular ideas and chisel them into shape.. always looking specifically for "teachable" things that I can quantify and break-down logically for you guys.

Then I pick my favourite parts, organise them and transcribe them before creating the backing track, recording the audio and finally filming and editing the video. It's a long process but it's the way I feel best about making my lessons stand out in terms of quality and content.

In this video you're hearing the Danocaster plugged into my Lazy J20 (I forgot how much I love this amp!), with reverb courtesy of the Strymon Flint pedal.

Absolutely dreamy!

Nick Whalen

Sweet sounding guitar, Alex! I am obviously biased about wanting your take on Sweet Dreams. Enjoy the Danocaster :-)

Brian

Wow!!! That’s fantastic. Strong vote for that as a future lesson/transcription!

Chip

Music therapy for the pup! 🐶

MarkF

Pretty chill

Ow, love me some behind the scene's! Very curious about this one, will watch later. I did notice that Mick from that Pedal Show has a very similar dog (he calls it a Sprocker..? I'm no expert) and she's called Rosie as well. Is there an English code we don't know about ;-)

John Olenski

I appreciate the time and effort you put in creating these masterful lessons. Thanks

Ron Culbertson

Thanks for sharing the inside scoop on how you work, no question there’s a lot of work involved. I can see you love this little Guitar sure is a sweet piece. Very nice picking. Hide to Rosie.

Timothy Daniels

It’s nice to see you enjoying your new instrument. Once again I’m so impressed by the breadth of your musical interests. It looks like Rosie has a new Oak leaf for her collection!

Gord Lambert

Any differences between your Nacho and the Dano. Which rates highest for you?

Rob James

Awesome Alex thanks for sharing. Would love to see you do a full lesson on “sweet dreams” the Roy Buchanan classic.

John Petitt

Love to hear the process.

Tim C.

Great sounds !!

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man that’s so hard to answer. As far as teles go they really couldn’t be more different. I’m in love with this guitar for sure, but I don’t think anything can top the Nacho as far as “THE tele” goes.

Gord Lambert

It is like a painter having different brushes… every instrument has unique qualities. But my Nacho sure inspires me! Feel very thankful for it.

Julie Altnether

Your process is working! Great lessons, content, and sounds ✨

Gert De Groof

I should have known! She’s a lucky dog for sure. I can feel another Tom Waits chord melody lesson lurking around the corner 😉

Nelson Kerr

Damn...that Dano's sounding amazing. Cool process and great doggo 🎶😎

Alex Farran Guitar

Exactly right Gord. For sure, if I had to keep only one of my electric guitars, it would be the Nacho 🧡

Johan

It always leads back to good old Tom Waits. That’s what made me find your channel and for that I am forever grateful.

Rob Bright

brilliant tone on both pick ups. Great playing ........

David Thorburn

Tasteful as ever Alex - was that the Bright or Normal channel on the LazyJ ?

Doug Weihnacht

Hey Alex hope you're going to break this one down for us-- it's the use of chords to structure melodies (shy of a specific song) that I'd like to hear more of. Best!

Johan

To this day my favorite show was Tom at the Chicago Theater. It was performance art.

Dennis Engel

Nice sounding guitar and amp, Alex. What do you mean by "pop it down in the looper"? Do you record the melody then loop it? I am curious to know what tools you use to do your recording and loops.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Dennis! So just record the chords on the looper and let them loop round and round while you explore lead ideas.

Alex Farran Guitar

I was so happy to see him perform again in this video, need to re-watch when I can handle it emotionally! 😅

Marius Eriksen

Sounds great, Alex. I sent you the email - don’t know if you got it. Just picked up a couple of nachos to test for a couple of days. How does the danocaster compare to your nacho?

Dennis Engel

Do you use a looping pedal? If so, which one do you use?

Greg F Germano

Some tasty pedal steel licks, Alex - looking forward to the lead study! Rosie is a real trooper - dozin' and dreamin' right in front of the amp!

Rob

Thank you for the Light that you always shine on us. Peace

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi buddy, I didn't see the email but I'll have another look. The two teles are very different to each other, almost incomparable I'd say and I love them both. The Nacho is my number 1 and has been since I got it, so for now, the Dano is a close 2nd!
