6:45 am here in St Louis. What a great way to start the day. Beautiful playing, Alex! Thanks!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Jim, glad you enjoyed it! I made a mistake and published the video a few hours earlier than intended, so you got a sneak peak there! It'll be back up and running in 3 hours :)

Geert Huybens

I can't play the video. It says "this video is private" (Although I'm a member). Do I have to change something in the preferences?

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi buddy, yes I accidentally published this too early. It'll come back online in 3 hours from now :)

Geert Huybens

Great. Thanks. I'm looking foreward to it😉.

Jack Axcelson

FYI, 10am, east coast USA. I still can't access this video. On my iPad the play button appears, but when I click it, it simply vanishes and nothing happens. on my Mac, I click play and I get a "this video is private" message.

Alex Farran Guitar

Sorry for the confusion, I accidentally released the video too early, but it’ll go live in half an hour (3:45pm my time)

Got the sneak preview as well! Beautiful piece of music and great lesson. Good to have the entry level to this style - the Christmas Ted Greene stuff was very hard work for me! And Grace is a brilliant recommendation- one of my favourite albums. I sometimes think his voice was so amazing that his exceptional playing and tone gets overlooked.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Jon, glad you enjoyed it! I always try to include some kind of Van Eps-isms in my chord movement.. often via use of internal motion. I'll have to actually do a dedicated lesson on that soon! Thanks for the link, I've not seen that yet! 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you enjoyed it Brendan! Yes I agree, Jeff's guitar playing and innovative approach is constantly overlooked!

JonB

Need to add that 7th string too. ;-)

Johan

Great lesson Alex. That line at 9:17 sounded like a Bachism to me, which of course is always welcome.

MarkF

Wow that lesson could fill volumes 1-5 of jazz theory books!! However it’s the tune that grabs me, very beautifully done and I look forward to getting it under my fingers and the theory into my brain. Ever since you dropped the Julian Lage triad piece I’ve gone down the Lage rabbit hole his playing is other worldly both on acoustic and electric so thanks for the intro and maybe something more on Julian Lage in the future. Thanks Alex.

Andre Hessels

Great one again! He, Alex I see your Dylan poster on the wall. Any chance you can cover a lesson sometime about the Highway 61/Blond on Blonde era. Lot of great electric guitar in that period.

Jerome Oks

One of my pet peeves: Pronounced Daddario not Di Addario, Dangelo not Di Angelo (R.I.P.), Dartagnan not Di Artagnan, D'accord? Great lesson, perfect timing for that material in my quest for the perfect chord progressions. Happy New Year Alex. All my best for 2026.

Brendan Allen

The “Live at Sin-e” is a great live set. Just Jeff’s voice, his tele and a heavy dash of reverb!

Want to print before watching but open zip and get garbldygook?? I’m old school pdf to printer… hand written notes…

Zohar

This is such a great lesson! but for a scale deficient person like me, when you talk about fishing around for notes off the scale it kinda goes over my head. are there any more "scales"" orientated lessons around here? should I even be looking for those? thankyou

Marsha in Austin

Thanks Alex! I found it. This is a terrific lesson … will definitely learn those 2 turnarounds….

Bob Marsh

Sooooo soothing! Simply beautiful! What a mix!

Alex Farran Guitar

Hey buddy, I haven't actually done any real scale specific lessons aside from the Mixolydian blues study and the Motown stuff where I break down the major pentatonic. When I talk about fishing around for notes from the scale, it'll be chord/function dependant. I usually would only say something as vague as that if it's in the context of having already mentioned the scale used.. are you sure I didn't speak about it in the minutes prior to that part? I'll rewatch later, but off the top of my head I speak about the harmonic minor scale in this one quite a bit. And if it's on just one of the natural chords of the key, ie; C, Dm, Em, F, G7, Am, Bdim .. it'll simply be the C major scale.

Zohar

Hi! You did mention the d harmonic minor. Which I then looked up online. Thank you Alex, your lessons are absolutely amazing. So much to learn from you! All the best

Frederick

Alex good stuff here some what beyond my capabilities. If played to a drum track what would be the best type of track and Bpm.
