A few people have shown an interest in a full breakdown of my chord melody arrangement of “Nuages”, so here it is! We go into some detail on the thinking behind arranging basic chord melodies like this. As well as covering some important bits of jazz vocabulary. This is a surprisingly easy arrangement to get the hang of, partly due to the repetition of a few very similar ideas. Very satisfying to be able to play a solo piece as beautiful as this. Wonderful playing and lesson. Thank you!

Thank you for your lesson. I want to learn more about the inversions which you played at the end of this video. Where can I get them? from Japan.

Takto Ando

Thank you for your reply. I’ll check it out. Looking forward your further lessons.

Alex, I know you're busy, your output is v. impressive, but would it be possible to record a backing track for Nuages? I'm learning it fingerstyle on a nylon string acoustic and I've recorded a rough backing track with your "basic changes" sheet but I'm not used to using a plectrum and I think the backing would work better that way. I've been playing it at about 80 bpm because that seems to work for fingerstyle. No rush of course, but I'll be grateful if you could get around to it one day. Thanks!

Alex Farran Guitar

Sure thing Steve, leave it with me. I'll record you a backing track at 80bpm :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Hey Steve, I've just recorded a backing track for you.. you'll find it added to the downloadable files above. I go round the full changes twice, then slow down for the ending. Hope it helps! :)

Steve Mayle

I just gave it a quick test drive and it's fantastic! Thanks Alex!

I was gonna get back to this lesson, but kinda forgot about it…really nice lesson. Thanks to Steve Mayle for putting it on my radar again through the forum!

Hi Alex, fabulous playing, when you play the Bbm6 in tremalo, are you still using the pick or are using the ends of your finger and thumb, it sounds too clean to be your fingers but you seem to maneuver the pick, it's sounds fabulous whatever, but if it's the pick then I'm gonna need a bit of practice to gain that speed!!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Tony, yes indeed, I'm doing that with the pick. It's really important to let your wrist stay loose when doing that technique.. bend it downwards in the typical gypsy "broken wrist" posture. Use my Patreon page search bar to find my Q&A from last year where I go into some detail on this technique.. with close up camera shots etc.

Oh man ! This tone, so warm. I’m losing my mind in all your lessons ! Searching for the next one. I need to ask which tune my wife want to hate first 😂

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you my friend, really glad you enjoyed it! Haha, that's funny about your wife.. I'm sure she's very impressed with your dedication though!

Brian

wow! what a great arrangement! One of my all time favorite tunes...

Rich Tortolini

love this tune Alex ....heard it since I was kid ..I think it was the theme song to the Jackie Gleason Show....Im dating myself. ha

GoofyRaf

Me again… just to say I can’t stop working this piece. Your chords and arrangements are so sweet 🙏

jmillerc2

Any particular reason why you did this in F. Normally see Nuage in G. Just curious. Beautiful arrangement. Thx

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you enjoyed it buddy. F is the original key that Django wrote and recorded it in, and I've always preferred those early versions.

Just downloaded this and I can open the chord melody PDF but get an error trying to extract the basic changes PDF. Any chance you could re-upload? Thank you!

Alex Farran Guitar

Sure thing Daryl, I’ll get on it first thing in the morning. Sorry about that! 😬

Alex Farran Guitar

Morning Daryl, just checked the files and all seems to be okay! Could you try re-downloading the zip file and let me know what happens?
