Great tune. When I was 20 years old I “studied” guitar at a jazz school in Antwerp for a few years. This was one of the tunes I learned back then. Learned the melody an octave lower back then, and I now notice I still have it under my fingers, more or less. ( I’m 45 now) Great to pick this up again in your version. Third song of your lessons I’m starting to learn, after ‘Paging the devil’ and ‘In a sentimental mood’. Learning songs is really pushing me forward big time! Keep ‘‘em coming. Thanks Alex

The audiofile ‘BB head’ has a long blank at the end. The song plays entirely, so probably you forgot to edit that. No problem, it just makes this a larger file. Just thought I’d let you know.

Oh man, that is so good to hear! Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏻 Glad you’re enjoying revisiting Billie’s Bounce too 🍻

Question: the Bdim in bar 6, I know it could also be called Ddim, Abdim or Fdim. But is there a particular way you think of it? Fdim would be most logical as being the one chord dim assume. Or do you just think of it as a passing chord?

Alex Farran Guitar

Good question Gert.. yes it's good to be aware that it is all of those things.. but functionally, in a blues context, we want to think about it as the #IV diminished.. it implies a chromatic bass run from the Bb (IV), to the B (#IV) to the 5th of the I (F)

Gert De Groof

Right…now you said it…I encountered that before. 🙏

Alex Farran Guitar

as a bonus tip.. it's also nice to be aware that the #IVdim and the iv minor are essentially interchangeable and both provide a nice route back to the I

Alex, I enjoy your lesson style and detailed explanations of what you're playing, which is why I signed up for your Patreon page. But I had hoped to find a more structured guide to your videos, a sensible order in which to watch them. I know you're not offering a specific course but.... When I click on the Blues and Soul collection, go to the earliest videos and find "2x Jazz Blues Lead Studies in F" this tells me that "over the last 2 weeks we took a deep dive into Billie's Bounce...". Did we? So I go looking for those videos and by using the search find the Billie's Bounce lesson Part 1. This tells me that "For our second piece....". So maybe I should look at the first piece first? Which first piece? Some sort of 'START HERE and go this way' guide would be appreciated if I'm going to get the most from your excellent videos.
