A fun little country picking lead study for you to dig into. I'd recommend using hybrid picking wherever possible on this one.. and keep those bends nice and accurate pitch wise ;)

I'm soloing over the changes to John Prine's "In Spite of Ourselves" here, but it's a very common progression using just the I, IV, V in the key of D.

Download includes all the usual stuff; TAB/Notation in guitar pro and PDF formats, as well as my reference recording and my backing track!

Absolutely Brilliant!

Made me smile, thanks Alex!

Love it! And one of the Great American Songs, I especially like the version he recorded with Iris DeMent.

Marty Wisott

Most excellent especially love how it builds tension towards the end. Tyvm

I can play John Prine's acoustic fingerstyle tune but thanks you Alex I can now look forward to hours of fun mixing in a few lead lines to spice it up as an overall solo piece. So glad I came across your material.

Brilliant. I love this style of playing. So much personality. Years ago my band paid John Prine $250 to use his vintage tube gear to record our demo in a garage in Nashville.

That Longbottom tele looks pretty awesome. Is that the hollow one? If so, how light do you think it is?

Alex Farran Guitar

Wow man, that's amazing! What a cool story! Fancy sharing the results?

Alex Farran Guitar

It's honestly a stunning guitar. Indeed.. totally hollow and ridiculously light.. honestly, feels like it could float away! I'll have to weigh it properly, but it's by far the lightest electric guitar I've EVER played!

Alex Farran Guitar

Man, I love that energy! Some fierce guitar playing there too, very cool mate 👌🏻😎

Many thanks, Alex -- thanks for taking a moment to listen !!

Wow - Longbottoms aren't inexpensive !

Alex Farran Guitar

Not cheap compared to mass produced guitars, but honestly, for a completely hand made guitar by a single master craftsman, they’re as cheap as you’ll find! 👍🏻

I like your connection ideas between the changes, gives me lots of material to incorporate in to my band solos.

Ron Bogdanoff

Excellent!! While I'm thinking about it, do you plan any studies on the surf guitar sound?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Ron. Oh yes, certainly! Any suggestions? I was planning on doing a Link Wray number at some point.. Ace of Spades or Jack the Ripper perhaps..

Ron Bogdanoff

All good!! Los Straightjackets I have been listening too lately has got me inspired for that style!

Ron Bogdanoff

Haven't had a chance to study this yet, but will do. This is a whole fresh thing for me, I have not thought/aware of using harmonized mixolydian dyads in country guitar but this was pointed out to me, I learn something all the time!! Very helpful

Alex Farran Guitar

I’m so happy to hear that Ron! I’ll be doing many more lessons on this style very soon too 👍🏻

Hi Alex..Just a few words to let you know all of your work, and there certainly is lots, is much appreciated. A suggestion maybe a lead study country style on a Gordon Lightfoot tune with some minor chords in it as well....He passed away just a short while ago and he lived down the road from me, in a town called Orillia, On. Just in your spare time LOL.....
