This is for those of you who believe that the blues these days has become too pretty and polite. We look at the dirtier, swampier, more unfiltered and raw blues attitude with this twangy telecaster lead study in G. Playing over a single chord vamp and keeping things interesting, raw and aggressive.

We combine elements of many sub-genres of the blues.. delta blues, Chicago blues, jump blues, country blues, rockabilly and even bluegrass to create a unique voice of our own. Think the perfect blend of players like Hubert Sumlin, Junior Watson, Bill Jennings, Danny Gatton and Jack White! And this should all be delivered with the casual swagger of a Keith Richards, Junior Kimborough, Marc Ribot or  Billy Gibbons.

I also finally introduce the wider public to my recently acquired Nachocaster guitar!

The description alone already got me drooling

Shmookie

Looks incredible!! Very excited!! I’ll be watching the live premier for sure!!

Randall Ernhofer

Looking forward to it . Swamp Boogie blues! I’m sure it’s gonna be great like all your other lessons.

Zohar

This is insane Alex. So gooooood

Marsha in Austin

Definitely going to find that backing track! Awesome sound you have

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Marsha.. I highly recommend grabbing all of their backing tracks!

Marsha in Austin

I found the Cinelli bros website- super cool sound quality backing tracks....would love to know if you have any suggestions for other genres ..? Thanks! If not no worries--This alone will keep me busy and motivated for quite awhile...!

Roel Meeus

Ragged and dirty! The way I like it!

MarkF

Your lessons are the hallmark of consistency always informed and to the point. You haven’t let me down yet so much great content and NO filler (I do miss your cat though) as always looking forward to next week. Maybe a little steel string acoustic lesson??

James Gaudette

Nice! Love the beautiful gritty tone of the Nachocaster on this one!

Marty Wisott

Mash of many of my favorite players from Hubert Sumlin to T Bone Walker to Jack White and as Billy Gibbons would say, "and all points in between." I was going to ask about your setting on the Flint but it sounds like the reverb was coming from the amp Were the strings Pyramid 10-54 and your were using a Jim Dunlop 1.2 mm I've been using Jim Dunlop 1.0 mm for blues and use a heavy pick for blue grass 1.4-1.5 mm I'll have to try something in the middle for this cheers!

Jerome Oks

Thank you for touting once again the merits of your Nachocaster. I thought I was finally done with my 20+ year quest for a great Tele with my Nash T-52, Sigh;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Mark, that really means a lot! Variety is the spice of life and is how I've found it best to keep private students motivated over my nearly 20 years of teaching, so I figured a similar approach would translate well to the YouTube videos and it seems to be the case! Ah yes, some steel string acoustic pieces in the pipeline for sure.. as well as more appearances from Louis the cat! ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Marty, glad we share so many favourite players! Indeed.. reverb from the amp, and flint set to "63' tube trem" speed and intensity both at 11 o'clock. Did you see the close up gear shots near the end of the video?.. The Pyramids are 10-46 and yes indeed, the Dunlop H3 pick is a new found favourite of mine for sure.. highly recommended :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Oops, sorry Jerome! haha ;) I'm sure your tele is a thing of beauty, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Lindsay Martin

I am hearing a lot of Nick Curran in this one. He was a genius of this style. Stolen too early off this spinning rock.

Wayne America

This rules Alex! I knew when I saw the adjective 'Swampy' in the title that the song was going to be a winner. Also, thank you for referencing the Cellini bros. I have been listening to them today and am thinking about going to their show in London later this month...not only to absorb more of this style but also to support musicians playing this kind of music.

Joseph Corso

Play like you just escaped from prison ... Croc Infested swamp ! Guttural Screams... You are the greatest! I mean so well put preach on Alex ..tremendous wealth of information as always so appreciated ...

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Wayne, so glad you enjoyed it. Yes definitely you must get out and see the Cinelli’s!.. I sat in with them for a tune at their Nottingham gig 2 weeks back.. they put on a great show 👌🏻

Jerome Oks

I love my Nash T-52. Best Tele I ever owned. I was being facetious

Jerome Oks

Make sure not a fly on a Boeing. I am serious. Read media

Gert De Groof

Man, seriously…this is just so much fun 🙏

Andrew Blackard

Spicy! How about some rhythm chops for this groove? I love it. Thanks.

Alex Farran Guitar

Good shout!.. I'm currently planning a ton of lessons, and one of those is a very similar train groove like this on one chord 👌🏻

Zo Falu

It's so impressive stuff Alex. Very appreciated!

Minstrel atHome

A great guitar in expert hands ! Thank you for this lesson which will help me developping ideas over a single chord séquence, hopefully without being too boring for the audience 😀
