Sembra piuttosto aver capito molto presto come usare quei fili a proprio vantaggio.

I had imagined Melissa trapped inside a web of red threads. Then I started photographing her, and the idea of a trap did not last very long.
Inside that web she never really seems to be looking for a way out. She grabs the threads, stretches them, leans into them, lets them cross her eyes and wrap around her figure, until what was supposed to restrain her starts to look almost as if it belongs to her.
The red cuts through the black, breaks up her silhouette, hides and reveals at the same time, while Melissa stays right in the middle of it all with an almost provocative confidence.
The curious thing is that, despite all those threads around her, Melissa never really looks trapped in the photographs. She seems to understand very quickly how to use them to her advantage.

Buongiorno miei carissimi FANATICs!
E sì, ci siamo divertiti parecchio a costruirlo mentre fotografavamo. 😄

Good morning my dear FANATICs!
This time I want to tell you something you would probably never guess just by looking at the photographs: once I had finished building the whole structure of red threads, I immediately realized it had not turned out the way I had imagined it.
In my head, the threads were supposed to be much tighter and spread more evenly through the space, almost like a real force field. In practice, I had placed the supports too close together and, above all, the yarn was much softer than I expected. It kept sagging and creating tangles instead of the clean lines I had originally pictured.
I could have taken the whole thing down, but Melissa was enthusiastic about the idea, so we decided to try it anyway. Luckily we did, because as soon as the first photographs appeared on the monitor I realized that something interesting was happening photographically.
The moment she stepped into the threads, she immediately started using them: pulling them, moving them, playing with them around her face and through the poses, taking advantage of exactly the softness that I had initially considered a flaw. Tethering helped me enormously here, because seeing the photographs appear immediately on the monitor made me realize that the result was moving in a completely different direction from the one I had planned — but it worked.
In the end I found myself with a set very different from the one I had imagined. The structure was far less orderly than expected, but that mass of red around Melissa gave the photographs a character I had not anticipated at the beginning.
And yes, we had quite a lot of fun building the whole thing while we were shooting. 😄
Now I am genuinely curious: would you like to see a 2.0 version of this idea one day, with a redesigned structure, tighter threads and an even larger installation, or is this chaotic red web exactly what you like most about Scarlet Web?
