Feel like the taking toy away rule is somewhat similar to another ancient emperor rule of not taking 3 chopsticks of the same dish , so people can’t work out the favorites of the emperor and plot something sinister… ancient royal families had to be extra careful and not show a favorite at all as it can become their weakness…. In that sense taking the toy away is rather reasonable…. Train from young.

Yes, we already know that Jinshi is the younger brother of the current emperor, meaning he is the son of the former emperor and the empress dowager Anshi. As a child, Jinshi thought the current emperor was his father and people corrected him that he was actually his older brother. But Maomao also figured out back in season 1 that Jinshi is the son of the current emperor and concubine Ah Duo, and that Jinshi as a baby was swapped with the actual younger brother of the emperor. It's all a bit confusing honestly. Jinshi knows that he is the younger brother of the current emperor, when in reality he is actually his son. That's why he is acting so familiar with Anshi because, for him, that's his mother who raised him.

Think you look too much into the doctor thingy relating to maomao. The scene was saying it’s because of that incident that even doctors had to be castrated before entering the rear palace, and since luomen is a eunuch, the incident is before his time.

As far as I know, people can only have one mother and one father (biologicaly speaking), so I strongly doubt that the girl who was born from two diferent people in completely different circumstances as the ones we know from Maomao, could posibly be Maomao.

I think you're confusing yourself, the Previous Emperor, is the Father of both the Current Emperor and Jinshi (allegedly they have alluded to other things but not confirmed). The Empress Dowager is the FORMER Empress and the Mother of both Jinshi and the Current Emperor. What was previously said, is that Jinshi though his OLDER Brother was his Dad (Because there is a 20 year age gap), but he was told that person is his Brother, not his Dad. His Dad was the creepy old dude he saw one time, but had basically had been locked away for reasons. Reminder the current Emperor was born to the Empress Dowager when she was 10, Jinshi was born when she was 30...so the Current Emperor is only 10ish years younger than his Mom. Also, being a P3 D0 is terrible regardless of when it happened, you can see that the Current Emperor has a strong dislike of women who aren't more um, developed--mature--I believe that is because he disliked his Father's "habit".

Each reveal brings more questions! Non-spoiler clarifications for Luke: The child that was born from Anshi when she was young is the current Emperor, so the baby girl that was kicked out of the palace with the doctor would be around the same age as the current Emperor. Anshi r*ped the previous Emperor and Jinshi is the child that came to be from that. Unless you believe Maomao's theory that Anshi's baby and Ah Duo's baby were swapped, in which case that baby died. The current Emperor was 17 at that time, so Anshi was probably in her late 20s then

Considering the time period, I think the main reason the current emperor has a particular dislike of it (to the point of never visiting one of the main concubines) is because it made his mother suffer, especially when she was pregnant of him. He must know she almost died.

So to explain a bit more and better for you Luke: Anshi (Jinshi's and Current Emperor's mother) gave birth to the current emperor at a young age (hence the scar belly she keeps mentioning). We then see the Current Emperor as a baby, and then Anshi says the line that got your attention, that there was also a daughter which the Previous Emperor did not accept, and banished her and a doctor who was claimed to be the father (and it says that the mother of the daughter was kept in the rear palace), so that being Maomao, the timeline age-wise and also the fact that the mother was kept is not possible. We then saw the scene where it is implied Anshi kinda SA the Previous Emperor, resulting in the birth of the imperial brother, Jinshi, and thats why she said in this episode "Child of immorality, child of a mistake" because she prob feels bad about how Jinshi was conceived, but she still loves him. And also thats why in the previous episode Maomao questioned that the Imperial Brother might not be the Emperors Brother because of the big age gap between the Current Emperor and Jinshi (since the Previous Emperor was into young girls, Maomao believed it was weird for someone like the Previous Emperor to make a second child with Anshi, who was very mature). But then we also have the theory in S1, with the 2 babies swapped.

7:22 OH, LOL! no! she did'nt meant the METAL, but a plant of the same name (in english, at least 😁). Their proper genus name is "Mercurialis" (related to Mercury, in Latin, the roman God equivalent to Hermes in the Greek mythology) 8:22 she is the mother of the current emperor. Jinhi is supposed to be his younger brother, so, her younger child. Of course they were expected to look alike. But I believe not as mother and son, but as granmother and grandchild, given the theory that he is indeed the son of the current Emperor with lady Ah-Duo 19:40 NOT MAOMAO... think, Luke, consider the timeline. That happened when Anshi was 10 years old and gave birth to the CURRENT emperor, who is around his late 30's or early 40's 🤣 So, general recap we get from this episode: - Anshi was a lady-in-waiting for her older sister (same father, different mother; her mother was her father's concubine) - Anshi succeeded in seduce the emperor, and gave birth to the CURRENT emperor at a really young age (10, probably). Since it was a boy, she got promoted from consort/concubine to Empress - aroung this same time, a little earlier, it was said the the Late Emperor had impregnated another young girl. The baby girl that was born from it was carried out of the pallace and the young girl was forced to remain within it as a servant, forever. The "cover up" for that incident was that the doctor that carried her out was the actual father and fled with his child, and due to that incident doctors started requiring to be castrated as well. That's when Luomen came in to work into the palace, and had to be castrated to be able to work in there. He was the doctor the operated her to give birth to the current Emperor. About the baby girl, she can't be Maomao, for obvious reason of the timeline. BUT, she COULD be her mother, if you try to lean in that direction - she grew old and started looking like a mature woman, wich the late emperor feared (maybe because they ressemble his authoritarian mother?) - eventually, almost 20 years after giving birth to the current Emperor, she "forced" him to get her pregnant again, this time from Jinshi (let's not consider the possibility of the baby swap. She gave birth to a baby at the same night as lady Ah-Duo). That was around 19 years ago - after that, the late Emperor retired himself into the room that used the be used by his mother when he was young and not Emperor yet, until his death. Wich was not that long ago, because somehow, even thought he started to seclude himself, he still took Lady Lishu, the youngest one, as a consort, while he was still alive (maybe throught some scheme of his mother, who knows? because he never "got the chance" to touch lady Lishu). And she was no older than 14, when the show started About appearences, even if Jinshi is not the actual son of the emperor, he could at least be his grandson, and resemblances can skip generations

They hinted at it in S1E5 at the garden party with Lishu, but the previous emperor was a freak... the kind of freak that wouldn't survive in one of today's prisons. And Empress Regnant Anshi confirmed just how awful he was.

Everybody has very good points. This is barely related but Luke, mercury is a liquid at room temperature. It would have to be about -40° to be a solid. So unless Maomao can handle that kind of temperature we can accurately assume it's not mercury.

You mixed up the info a bit there, Luke. It's actually the opposite. The man who Jinshi thought was his father, was actually his brother. And the man he thought was his uncle, was his real father. A misconception he believed mostly because of the age differences. The current emperor is the elder brother, making Jinshi the young prince. But with the age difference between the elder brother and Jinshi, many didn't believe him to be the old emperor's son, especially with the old emperor's taste for younger girls. Jinshi believed the rumors growing up. (Yes, it's implied Jinshi's mom forced the old emperor to sleep with her, which is why there is a big age difference between her children.) Additionally, when talking about the doctor, remember, a while back, there was a rumor/ story revealed to us about someone from the rear palace giving birth to a daughter, claiming the old emperor as the father. But the old emperor's mom (empress) did not believe them and banished the baby and the doctor (suspected real dad) from the palace. The empress dowager (Jinshi's mom) remembered the story because she thought she was lucky to give birth to a son (Jinshi's older brother), because she might have suffered the same treatment otherwise.

Mercury is the only metal that is a melting point below room temperature, though there are a few others which aren't much higher. It's "raw" state does look like the new terminator in Terminator 2. For it to be solid above about -40 degrees, it would have to be part of a mineral crystal, the most common being cinnabar, which looks red.

Maomao had the theory in the first season that the babies of her and Ah Duo could have been swapped, based on the fact that Ah Duo referred to her baby as leaving her rather than dying. If that actually happened, Jinshi's actual mother would be Ah Duo, and the empress dowager's second son would have died as a baby after being fed honey by Ah Duo's head lady-in-waiting. The anime up to this point has not provided any real hint that Maomao's theory is true. Jinshi looks a lot like Ah Duo, but we now know he also looks a lot like the previous emperor. So is he the previous emperor's son and the current emperor's brother, or the current emperor's son with Ah Duo? It doesn't look like the anime is going to answer that question anytime soon, if at all.

So just to clarify, there are no more secrets to Maomao's birth. We know who her parents are. Regarding Anshi, her first child when she was young is the current Emperor. The second child, from when she SA'd the previous Emperor, is either Jinshi or the child that was swapped with Au Duo's child back as hypothesized by Maomao in season 1. Both of which would explain why he looks so much like the previous Emperor. I love this episode because we see a lot about both the former Emperor and Anshi. The former emperor was a terrible person but while not excusing his actions it shines some light on why. He's clearly traumatized and not all there mentally especially around adult women. Something happened that messed him up bad. And Anshi, while being his victim, harbored some feelings for him that clearly drove her to do something terrible as well (r*ping him), in an attempt to gain control over her situation. Its messed up on all sides and could have just been left as "pedo emperor bad, Anshi is an angel." But that isn't real. They decided to have some really great character writing here instead of taking the easy route.

The woman in this episode "Anshi" (the Emperors mother) had a child at the same time as AhDuo (the emperors concubine), we don't know for certain but the has been a theory that those babies (the sibling of the emperor and the child of the emperor) were swapped. If that is true, Jinshi would be the Son of the Emperor and AhDuo. The woman in this episode Anshi, would be his grandmother, even though she raised Jenshi as her own son.

I think the previous emperor was so much bullied by his mother (empress regnant) that he became scared with grown up woman and the little innocent girls weren't that scary. It's totally wrong to do that to the 10y/o innocent girls but he was basically mentally ill and that time there weren't any mental hospitals for that and the emperor is free to do whatever he wants 🤢🤮 Anshi (empress dowager) was so fckin mad at him that se chose to r@pe him. After that she became pregnant again and for the emperor (that was already fckin scared of adult woman) r@pe fast the last thing he could handle so he was kept in that room at the end. That's the reason why he looked like looked like in the jinshi's flashbacks

You simply prefer to hate him, well I do dislike how he conducts himself too. But such people often lack our moral compass. Not because they are scum, well that too if he is like what we seen. But disabled ppl often dont understand morality. And whether his mom abused him or not doesnt make it less provablr that he could be disabled AS WELL. There are many "walls" disabled people are unable to jump over, in their development. happens a lot. Sadly.

But that explains why Jenshi and Ahduo look so much alike and had a strange bond, i think Ahduo believed it. Granted looks could be similar because I think they said Ahduo is actually emperors cousin too.

I actually think his mom probably was just a strict Asian mom (likely because she pretty early on saw how incapable he would be as a theoretical ruler (and de facto ruler once his older half-brothers died from the plague or w/e). Considering they mentioned that the empress regnant was a low-rank concubine, I think it's more likely that some of the other catty concubines might have actually abused him, potentially even sexually if they had sussy interests too. Plenty of child molesters etc used to be molested as kids too, so from their fucked up mind they view it as 100% normal to molest kids etc. It kind of gives me those vibes, especially how neurotic he becomes when the half-sister even slightly touches his arm (plenty of molestations begin with such harmless looking gestures AFAIK, although this is largely theoretical knowledge for me of course, but I've heard too much about the starting stages for it to not be at least decently true, I don't see why former molestation victims would lie about such trivial things at least).

TBF his dad (Emperor) is genetically related to the PDF file emperor, so we can presume Jinshi looks like a color swap of the emperor because there was enough genetic trait overlap from PDF emperor & Ah Duo that combined into Jinshi looking identical to the PDF emperor but w/ purple color swap vs black hair red eyes combo like the emperor also has

I think the reason the banishment happened was because 1. it was a girl & thus ineligible for heir, and 2. she didn't want the PDF tendencies of the emperor out, but by the time the thing w/ Anshi happened it was probably some years later & after no progress of concubine pregnancies + the kid happening to be male the Empress Regnant likely became a bit desperate for continuity reasons, so she more or less accepted it given how good RNG it was to actually have a loli who is actually biologically fertile + it's also a male offspring too, the 2 RNG traits are rly unlikely to repeat within reasonable timespan if she misses this acknowledgement opportunity. Actually good thing that she did, because the PDF emperor & her died some 15-20 years later, so I doubt they could have gotten any decent replacements to an already frail bloodline like that (the PDF emperor's older half-brothers all died due to genetic defects making them vulnerable to the plague at the time)
