Lol they actually can't fly, but in the manga they were often drawn in mid air because it looked cool and the animators couldn't figure out how they ended up in mid air so often so they just said "fuck it, make them fly."

They do but the fight in the manga was explicitly said to take less that 150 seconds, thing is in the manga it just one panel with 2-3 text bubbles and it's obvious they are falling or have just jumped but in the anime they need to hang on that panel for 5 minutes straight so they just said fuck it and let them hover and fly.

It's interesting comparing it to the OVA version of the fight where it's much clearer that they're just jumping really high. They'll begin to slow down as they reach their parabolic arc and shift their momentum in other ways. There's a point in both the OVA and the series where you see Jotaro punching a wall to change direction.

For me this is the biggest shortcoming in jojo. Jotaro being able to move in stopped time makes no sense and is just plot armor.

They're the same kind of stand. They've always been the same kind of stand. Jotaro just didn't know he could do it until he saw a stand with all his other abilities also being able to do that too. Even Dio only figured out he could do it by accident and even when he did it he didn't think he had.

I mean, it probably makes less sense that Jotaro's stand in Ep 1 could catch a bullet because it has really good reaction time. He's been known to be the fastest Stand user at close range because of how many close hits he avoids, so I think subconciously stopping time moments before death is a reasonable explanation.
