??? It’s perfectly fine if you don’t like the episode, but the critique that it’s pointless because they didn’t accomplish anything doesn’t really hold up. The Oppai Dragon scene and the scene with Sairaorg’s mom are important in ways other than the characters “accomplishing” something 1. The season is called “Hero” for a reason. Issei had that discussion with Azazel on what being a “hero” meant for a reason. The first arc was about the Hero faction for a reason. The Oppai Dragon arc is literally about Issei becoming a hero of the Underworld and a hero for the children specifically. That is why that scene matters. He isn’t just fighting for his own desire to become Harem King anymore. 2. The scene with Sairaorg’s mom is also important because it gives you not only Sairaorg’s backstory, but also his motivation for fighting. You don’t think that knowing the reason why the final boss of this season pushes himself is important? Or that this motivation won’t play a factor in their Rating Game? That’s the purpose of these scenes. They are setting up the motivations of the two main combatants for this upcoming game.

Monogatari has been requested for quite a long time. Elfen Lied for +18 reaction.

Luke is getting harsher and harsher with the story because he is extremely lost and therefere completely disconnected from it. You have season 3 to blame for that. The visit to Sairaorg's house was in no way pointless. Thanks to that we discover Sairaorg's past in more detail, know his motivation and know about the real stakes of this fight. Basically, contextualize the opponent's situation to not make it seem a one dimensional character.

Daniel Puig

I said the same in my comment before reading yours xD. Luke is just lost in the story and he disconnected from it.

Dot

Yeah, that’s definitely a big part of it, but I think the disconnect is mainly coming from the fact that from the very beginning, he’s disregarded the idea of DxD having any semblance of a plot. Him saying he doesn’t care for the serious parts and is only here for the “cheeky” bits is proof of this. There’s nothing wrong with that, but then you have to acknowledge that your own disinterest in the story is causing you to be lost when those serious parts become more prominent Now, no one is claiming that DxD has some overly complex and compelling plot, but there IS a plot and there are character arcs and motivations. But since the anime is what it is, he hasn’t taken it seriously at all, which causes him to either miss things or not commit things to memory, which then causes him to become confused and accuse the plot of being random when that’s not the case

I just want to say that Issei has never once said he didn’t have a bunch of women who love him or denied having a harem, the bits funny but it feels like you actually believe he doesn’t know his situation. All he says is that he wants to be the harem king which he very clearly isn’t yet.

Michael

I know, right. It seems like he also kind of stopped paying attention to it as much earlier so the errors are now compounding. Like in his complaint of Issei and Rias’ relationship. Their relationship is meant to be strained right now, that’s kind of the whole point.

Michael

Also calling that scene pointless makes no sense, to relate it to Naruto that’s like saying Jiraiya dying was pointless because Pain was still around at full power.

Dot

Exactly. In S4E3, Issei literally acknowledges that he has women fighting over him (after the closet scene with Asia, Xenovia, and Irina), but says that he can’t consider himself Harem King yet because he’s unable to take the next step in his relationship with them People have been telling him since Season 1 that there is a reason why Issei can’t take this next step, but he continues to boil it down to a bit or gag 💀

Black lagoon DUB for next Patreon ;)

noctemdracone

Ddraig's depression is understandable. All the past hosts powered up on rage and destruction and now his current host can only power up after copping a feel?

Recall

yay here for my weekly dxd hate. Nothing could be better than half paying attention to a show and then complaining about it

Rem is best waifu

To be honest I had only watched the full season 4 once before this and I never got into it. I don't blame anyone if they don't like it or if they like it bc I didn't read the LN. It was all really confusing to me, plus I was probably high when I first watched it years ago.

Earl Preston

regarding the interruption trope remember you would have watched this once a week so it wouldn't have been literally one after another after another binge watching. ----ok you are two at a time so its similar but my meaning is its further apart when watching it as originally presented. Plus tropes are a part of tv for infinity. some just do it more than others. I loved the tv show HOME IMPROVEMENT from the 90s with TIM ALLEN. but even he admited they redid jokes too many times. like banging his head on a pipe walking down the basement. So yes i do agree they could do with some variety but you wouldn't quite be as impacted when doing the show once a week.. But yes i do agree this episode was pretty weak.

Amberyootoob

Ecchi harem show I think would be right up your alley: Trinity Seven.

Daniel Anderson

like most have said so far and i am in agreement. you havn't been paying attention to plot or character arc moments this entire season. it seems all you have cared for are fights or boobs, unless Konako pops in with her cat ears. Its been quite annoying seeing you pay half attention then complain about a scene, or continue to forget the plot points. lets see how the rest of the season goes.

Grey4953

I remember why I dropped this show lol

Roxy’s Holy Relic

When you skip the first episode and go into a new season with little to no context this is the result…You had some really poor takes about Issei and Rias’ relationship and about the trip to see Sairaorg Bael’s mother. Seems like you’ve kinda checked out on this series and have missed or not understood some key plot points which is disappointing to see because DxD is a pretty straightforward series that should not be difficult to follow.

davguev

That's a really good pick.

NK

Yes in this very episode he was complaining about how Azazel knew about Ddiaig’s problem asking if he somehow called him up or something. Literally right before that Azazel said that Ddraig spoke directly with Fafnir to let him know. But Luke wasn’t paying attention and completely missed that….

NK

Yes though I hope Luke pays more attention to it than this one or he will be completely and totally lost….

NK

Luke definitely this episode was more of a setup episode, but all of the scenes were quite important. Some of what you’re feeling is because of seasons 1-3 missing a lot of the details of the plot and skipping a ton of the relationship between Issei and Rias. However some is because you’re missing a bunch of details that you didn’t pay attention to and either forgot or didn’t pick up in the first place that were in previous episodes or even at times earlier in the same episode. An example of this is your complaint about how Azazel knows about Ddraig’s problem. Well Azazel literally explained how like a minute or two before that.

Bongji

you see him at 15:57 just watching his phone or something

Itto Sanzzo

Yes, the dragon indeed has an Iphone. They said he talked to Azazel through the Fafnir (Azazel's dragon) sacred gear

Zach Tomko

I have ADHD and even I can still follow that's sad
