I think the thing you gotta remember is that Aang being told he was the Avatar, running away, and the airbender genocide all happened relatively quickly. Aang wasn’t supposed to be told until he was 16; they told him early *because* they knew the Fire Nation wanted war, and they were right. No one knew Aang was the Avatar, but they knew the Avatar would be an Airbender because that’s how the reincarnation cycle works. So the Fire nation killed all the Airbenders, assuming the Avatar was among them. Bumi never knew Aang was the Avatar, either—considering the timeline, we have to assume that whenever they were hanging out was before Aang was told. But over time people realized that whoever the Avatar was, they must have survived, because otherwise they should have been reborn into the next nation (Water) already. So the theory of The Last Airbender grew. Still, no one knew who he was or HOW he survived. Remember, Zuko was looking for someone Bumi’s age. An old man who’d had a century to become a master bender. And then he reappeared and word started spreading that the Avatar was actually a 12 year old kid. Maybe Bumi heard Aang’s name or description mentioned along the way, or maybe he had no idea that the Avatar people were talking about was his friend from 100 years ago until he showed up.

I think legend of Korra is so over hated. It may not be as good as Avatar the last airbender, but still a good show! Definitely worth checking out when you finish avatar

61 episodes does feel short compared to some anime, but you really gotta admire the creators who knew the story they wanted to tell and took exactly the time they needed to tell it

Fun fact: if you observe the movements of each of the type of benders, you will see that they move differently (if you havent already). Each bending type is based off of a real type of martial arts!

Lol I still can't stand that show to this day for a plethora of reasons. I tried rewatching it last year and got irritated all over again. But there's plenty of people that tend to like it, so if Luke wants to check it out, it'd likely be worthwhile, even just for the expansion of the lore and world building

I hope I'm not wrong, but yh, a movie is coming that takes place between the last airbender and the legend of Korra. And ofr Korra, imo it's not on par with the first series. BUT ! Once I've understood it's NOT TLAB but it's own series, albeit a sequel one, I started enjoying it for what it is, and it's quite a good show as well !

To answer your question before- the past Avatar that disappeared died and the same day he died Aang was born. It’s reincarnation! That’s the Avatar cycle- one avatar dies and then the next is born, the power passes along, and the cycle repeats. Each time a new avatar is born it’s into a different element- air, water, earth, fire, air, water, earth, fire. That’s how the fire nation knew to attack the air nomads, the next avatar after the one who disappeared was supposed to be born into the air nomads civilization.

i would not say "as" good as this one, but thats just because the last airbender is that good. But i really did enjoy watching Korra. it really isn't as bad as most people make it out to be.

Dub anime has become much better since Funimation came around. There are still bad ones coming out, like from Netflix. Netflix dubs are horrid.. But the ones from the old Funimation cast and a lot from Crunchyroll are actually well done. There are many roles that are even better than the original VAs from them, it's a shame so many people don't give them a chance

So regarding the Legend of Korra. It's not bad per say. It's that the production was a damn mess. They got permission to do a 12 episode miniseries so they had to rush everything, to their dissatisfaction. Then they got approved for another season. Which they had to scramble to come up with a continuation, then somehow they managed to get another 2 seasons approved but had budget issues so another studio had to be the ones to animate it. The characters themselves are great but the plot is clearly a problem because the team was unable to plan it properly. It is a mixed bag. Personally I love the characters and endure the plot.

49:34 you have only watched like 3 or 4 animes in English dubbed. you've never even tried to watch most of the other 50+ anime that you did watch in the Japanese subbed. you never tried to watch most of those same shows in the English dubbed as well. because they are a lot of anime purists who hate on English dubbed for no reason other then because they think the only way anybody should ever watch anime is in subbed. because to them any other language besides Japanese is wrong. and in every anime show you've always had a vote subbed or dubbed and subbed wins 99% of the time because of the anime purists. and while yes most anime is better subbed then dubbed its not by much most if the time English dubs are really good and extremely close to the quality of Japanese sub and sometimes its actually better. So the only reason your saying that even though you've never watched a single dubbed episode of most of the 50+ some animes you've watched except for like 3 or 4 of them is because of what most you're audience says on twitch YouTube and patreon who most of them are anime purists and spit and shit and piss on anything anime dubbed. You need to throw your peer pressure trash biased take on English dub anime out the fucking window. Im sorry but that comment about most dubs being bad is just factually completely wrong and it pissed me the fuck off. If you were to have said most anime in Japanese subbed is better then English dubbed then yes fine thats fair. But to just say that even 50% of English dubs are bad is one of the most retarded things I've ever heard about anime out of anyone's mouth ever.

Saiki K reawakened specifically. They totally butchered it in my opinion. Edgerunners was very good though, you're right. I didn't know they did Vinland saga, I'll have to try it. Also, Amazon did a horrid job with that Country Bumpkin show, can't forget that one

NO SPOILER AHEAD: Small info, which is NEVER straight up mentioned in the TV show, but rather in the novels. Avatar Kyoshi (from the episode on that island) managed to life for 230 years. But someone else even managed far longer by using a forbidden bending technique that can potentially turn a human immortal. It's a variation of earth bending, which bends bones and also minerals inside human cells. That person earned the nickname "the Immortal Tieguai" since he managed to life for over 2,000 years, and is supposedly still alive somewhere.

Wow Luke, you really don't get the concept of reincarnation lol. Reincarnation is basically the same soul being reborn over and over. Roku was Aang's last life. Roku is a part of Aang. That is why there can only be 1 avatar at a time. It is one soul being reborn after each death.

Yu Yu Hakusho actually has really good dub and sounds better than Japanese. It can be done. But I think the urge to push out anime dub quickly is an issue. When anime started becoming popular, there were some pretty good dubs. Though sometimes the scripts lost the original meaning. But there are rare gems like Yu Yu Hakusho that just sound good.

Yeah I can agree with this take. Sure, most Japanese subs are better, but to say the majority of dubs are bad, especially with how far dubbing has come in the past 10 years is just blatantly incorrect and also irritates me beyond no end, especially when the english VAs do talented work in every media they voice and no one complains there, it's all about the anime work they do. Also a lot of VAs these days are online and watch /interact with fans, reactors and the fandom...so they can hear people just shitting on them constantly for no reason at all. That must feel so shitty.

i really enjoyed legend of korra but its a little strained on the writing and characters and such. its a show that is very fun to watch and it IS good but there's very clear flaws. its not all too connected to the original series and fundamentally different in its storytelling but still a very good experience.

Dont watch the live action film, thats on par with DBZ: Evolution, horrible. However Netflix started a live action of the last airbender series and thats decent.

To explain Luke's question about dub actors at around the 50 minute mark. There is a very big reason dubs can't sound like this. Dubbing is, by definition, voicing over already existing footage. This means that a Dub actor may have to make sacrifices in their performance to match the timing of the Existing Animation. Avatar, and other English animated shows, don't have this restriction. The Show is animated AFTER the voices are recorded. They are far less restricted in how they need to give their performance. There are some talented actors in Dubbing who manage to give impressive performances despite this restriction. But the reality is that this restriction will always keep dubs at a disadvantage. Just porting a good voice actor like Mae Whitman (voice of Katara) into an Anime dub wouldn't suddenly fix everything.
