The thing about Hinata's test being "one off" is that they were multiple choice questions. Hinata marked the correct answer, but accidentally for the wrong question (either for the previous question or the next question).

Tim

man that sounds so easy I wish we had multiple choice questions like that in school instead having to write paragraphs upon paragraphs in tests where im from

Leonardo Postacchini

Agreed Luke, Hinata is right. He is not being egoistic, he understands he is the weakest link in the chain. A link that wants to be stronger is not going against the chain.

Tim

The school i went to was very into hurling ( an Irish sport that is insanely popular) and they used to get out of any test or academic event whenever a blitz or tournament was on and not gonna lie it pissed me off immensely especially cause they were assholes about it. So lowkey i loved watching hinata and kageyama sweat at the fact they might not have gotten to go to their camp.

Luke, Hinata is not currently one of their best players. You could argue he's one of the three or four most valuable players on the team... He's a very potent weapon, but at this point he wouldn't sniff the court without Kageyama and the freak quick. He is their worst receiver (which is limited bc he always comes off for Noya when he's in the back row). He is the worst server on the team, by a pretty good bit. Tsukki can at least reliably get his serves over the net, and aim them a bit. He's a pretty bad blocker (Which is literally his role on defense). Since he's a bad receiver, he almost definitely sucks at passing too. He's an okay hitter at his current level...his spikes get dug often bc they're limited. He doesn't have power, i don't think we've seen him hit a cut or line shot, and his placement is ok...his only weapon is the freak quick and his blind faith that kageyama will get him the ball perfect timing and spot. The freak quick then turns into mental terrorism for the other team bc they end up guessing-usually wrong- between freak vs reg quick. He's a great team guy, he has so much energy, and is such a positive, great team mate..but on skill alone (emphasizing this bc I know people will be heated about this) he is, at this moment, the least skilled starter on the team. THAT SAID- I totally agree with you and Hinata, that he should work on hitting the freak quick with his eyes open...He obviously needs to work on his serves and receives/passing too. While practice time is limited, it's not impossible for him to work on hitting in scrimmages and focus on the other aspects in drills. Like you said, this is the time to work on things and strive to improve.

This Hinata/Kageyama argument is pretty decisive among the fandom. Personally I'm on Hinata's side. When I first watched it I didn't really process the whole center ace thing, but honestly, at that age, chances are your ego's kinda big (I mean, look at how Kageyama was in middle school) and you want to be the coolest one who shines the most. Hinata has always wanted to be the ace, and a person who was on the same team as him, and with similar conditions as him made it work. So he KNOWS it's possible. I'd say for the team, he had previously shelved his ambitions of wanting to be the ace (I know he still yaps about it but he wasn't really actively pursuing it or disrupting the team for it). He did the job the team needed him to do, and he was happy to help. This is why I don't like people being harsh on Hinata for his desire to be the ace and taking action on it, especially when they're stagnant. Sure, Hinata can work on his other fundamental skills like receiving, serving, blocking etc., but with the freak quick being useless, what would be the point of having him on the court? Why would you not just put in someone else that is already better at all those fundamentals than he is? Removing the freak quick and just having a stronger base loses them the game every single time. Both with how it was the year before, and how it was before Hinata and Kageyama made it to the practice matches. So what really needs to happen is for their attack to evolve. I think a lot of people see the episode title 'greed', and when it appears, immediately accept it as a negative. But what's wrong with the desire to improve? He sees his shortcomings and wants to fight. A lot of people see the "I" usage in Hinata's words and coupled with the title, immediately brand it as bad. He's not saying he wants to fight alone, he's saying he too wants to fight. At the moment, with how the freak quick is, he's just a weapon being swung at their opponents. Sure, he still has the final say of how hard to hit it and if he's going to hit it, but that's about it. It sucks but right now without Kageyama, he basically has no way to fight in a way that anyone else can do better. I don't think he's in the wrong at all for wanting to be able to fight with his own will. If you remember in Season 1, Tsukishima too was annoyed at Kageyama for deciding for him what kind of attack he should be making and not letting him decide and fight with his own mind. I think many Haikyuu watchers are too sensitive to the words 'I' or 'me' since it was raised with Kageyama. Also keep in mind that sometimes 'I' or 'me' is not explicitly used but is used in the translation for the sentence to be grammatically correct in English. I am of the opinion that working on improving the freak quick probably shouldn't have happened during the first Tokyo training camp because of how short it is, and how much finesse it requires to make something work that isn't a fluke, but the reasoning they gave Hinata wasn't for him to put it aside for now because they didn't have the time for it now, but it was dismissing his experience and telling him that they didn't need his will. Could you imagine your team basically just telling you to shut up and hit the ball when you KNOW you're lacking and you want to improve? And you know the importance of said attack BECAUSE you're supposed to be the decoy that lets the others work. Yeah, Hinata was too absorbed in the ball thing, and made contact with Asahi, but he didn't do it on purpose. He was just too focused on wanting something to change. He was wrong for that and it was clear that he was really sorry about it. He previously put aside what he wanted for the good of the team, but he can't stay a mindless weapon forever. That desire to improve is what brought Hinata to where he is in the first place. Picking and choosing when that desire is 'good' because it's convenient is quite selfish and disregards what is good for Hinata's growth as a player. I think if I was the coach (not that I play volleyball), I'd maybe tell Hinata to sit out, but to observe other better players to take in information on any skills that he could take on to add to his arsenal of attacks. TL;DR: I don't like how mean people are to Hinata on this and how dismissive the others are to Hinata's experience and his desire to improve. He's not wrong for wanting to improve and fight with the weapon that is THE asset that makes him valuable, especially when people have reiterated many times on its importance to making the whole team work.

I can't wait for next week! The training camp is one of my favorite episodes!! It's when i fell in love with Tsukki, Bokuto, Kuroo!! I'm so excited!!!

just curious, why is he even streaming on rumble ?

Avis Pakaya

The last time false copyright strike on twitch thing happen was when he streamed haikyuu

Basically, Hinata's path is raising the ceiling, while Kageyama's is raising the floor. Raising the ceiling means you are more likely to make an upset, while raising the floor will make you more consistent, and both are right. And they will eventually do both

Kiwi

Hinata and Luke TOTALLY wrong in episode 2 here.

Matheus Nery

Luke, the thing with Hinata, at his current state, is that he has no value on his own. Besides the super quick, he is bellow avarage in every other aspect: he sucks at receiveing, he sucks at serving, he is mid at blocking and can't spike at all besides the super quick one. Imagine Kageyama can't play a match for some reason, whats the point in having the current Hinata play if the super quick can't be used? Hinata is aware of that, but he thinks just learning another form of attacking is enough, while Kageyama thinks he should also focus on getting better on the areas he sucks at. They are both right, what is needed is for them to find some middle ground.

Kyle Garrett

Hinata is like that one guy who you play fighting games with, and he just spams a single attack over and over and over, without actually understanding how to play the game. Hinata's quick is fantastic, but all his other fundamentals are below average, so countering that one move counters him. As anime fans we know this is a story, we expect them to achieve greatness, so it's easier to accept Hinata's viewpoint and take the gamble. View it as a normal person though, and this relative newbie to the sport, whose worse than basically everyone at everything is suddenly wanting to completely change the one thing he's good at, and the one thing that's changed the success of the team. Of course you're going to be skeptical and dismissive and want him to focus on rounding out his skills overall, instead of telling him to tunnel even harder into being a one trick. I understand Hinata wanting to have a place on the team, and feeling inferior, but building up your basics, so you have value in every position does give you a place on the team. If you're a good player without the quick, then the quick becomes a trump card you can pull out randomly. If you're mediocre, then that quick is a crutch that's easily predicted and exploited. Hinata's not wrong that the quick needs to evolve, but the issue is that Hinata lacks the skill necessary to evolve it the way he wants to, and he's getting offended and upset when people tell him that.

Kyle Garrett

I do disagree with Luke that they should have practiced that move during one of the few rare times they get to compete against other teams. Hinata isn't the only member on the team, so training matches against live opponents should be focused on improving the entire team, not just one single member. The type of training where one person fails repeatedly can be saved for team practice or solo practice where it doesn't negatively impact both his team, and the teams they're training with.

Dan Cook

when hinata says compete on his own he isn't talking about doing everything by himself and not working with his team. He is saying that currently, if kageyama wasn't there, he wouldn't even be on the bench. His entire value to the team is down to Kageyama being able to toss the ball with the accuracy to do the freak quick. All of Hinata's other skills are below average to terrible right now and he wants to change that. He is saying he wants to be a strong player no matter who he is playing with

Kosumi

I think the biggest issue that people have with trying out Hinata's idea is the lack of time. They only have a month until the tournament, and if Kageyama and Hinata used all their free time to focus on this very difficult attack, I wouldn't be surprised if it would hurt the team as a whole. I still think Hinata is right, relying on Kageyama does affect his own personal growth, and Hinata wants to grow to help out his first real team. Kageyama is more interested in the team's potential and Hinata is more interested in his own (but he is still thinking about the team). The only thing that can prove either side right is the result after a decision is made.
