Maks Lesniewski

7:32 Punisher also goes around killing people all the time, and people do think he's cool. Punisher is actually one of the biggest inspirations behind Stain's character.

idkwhy

The reasons why I dropped MHA manga have started lol

Barack O. Llama

eh this arc isn't great but its quite short. for me I'd say it goes downhill halfway through season 3

Krawbs

I am glad that you like Deku as a main character. Him as a main character is one of the most common complaints about the series that has people divided.

idkwhy

I'm giving a chance for MHA anime tho, I hope it will be better than manga

Roli D. Great

By the way, can't Erasor Head nullify Invisible Girl's quirk and make her visible? Just saying... xD

Krawbs

Her quirk is considered a mutant-type so he can't turn her visible with erasure.

Shadow 55

You need to check out the My Hero Academia movies. They are canon. To an extent. As in they are canonically relevant down the line. So i think uoi should watch the first movie after season 3

Maks Lesniewski

He can't turn off Quirks that work by altering the user's appearance.

Silas vc

You have to watch the first movie soon after season 2 before 3 !!

Warren

May i ask more more specifics? the show never did anything that made me want to drop it so I'm curious what things turned you away?

Kanna kamui

day 25 of asking for double reactions 🥲

idkwhy

[SPOILERS] Sure, I can tell you. I think it was about eight years ago, so I don’t remember everything clearly, but I remember at least two things: 1. At that point in the manga, I started to feel frustrated that Deku was still such an underdog. Despite everything he had gone through, his power still felt secondary and much less interesting compared to the abilities of the other heroes. Even the developments we were about to see in the near future didn’t look impressive to me at all. His ability gradually started to feel less and less remarkable compared to everyone else’s as if he was not even the MC. I have to admit, though, that the anime portrayed his power much better than the manga did, especially thanks to the soundtracks that almost always accompanied those moments. Because of that, I’m hoping that the later developments will also be handled better than they were in the manga, and that I’ll enjoy them more in their animated form. 2. I was also bothered by the fact that he cried so often. I grew up with the Big 3, and I always liked that the MCs were generally able to handle their emotions, with tears being reserved for truly difficult and impactful moments in the story. Here, too, I have to give credit to the anime — Deku cries noticeably less there than he did in the manga.

GhostZethAaa

Don't worry Luke, this anime only gets darker every season. Slowly but surely.

TheKnightwatchOfficial

First movie takes place during summer vacation, so it should be watched after season 2 finishes.

Dusky

Here to say to watch the first movie. It's somewhat important. (Though I guess not mandatory)

TheKnightwatchOfficial

Such an amazing series. You should watch "My Hero Academia: Two Heroes" after you finish Season 2. If my calculations are correct, you could watch it for a Friday movie slot.

xrmy

Why does Luke always give his hypothetical scenarios with someone named Bob? 😭

Warren

Ah ok, thx for the explanation, Those weren't issues for me personally but tbf id only watched the anime so cant comment on the Manga, But i can fully see how those things would make someone drop it. Thx for sharing have a good day to you!

idkwhy

Thank you for asking :) I hope I will like anime version as much as you do. Have a good day too

Vinnick

13:30 - Luke, we call that the 'Stupid Sexy All-Might' effect.

Jakub Rybar

All for one's brother always had a quirk that lets him pass on his quirk, the quirk he gave him was a power accumulating quirk. Before he gave him that, his "pass on quirk" was useless couse he didnt have a quirk to pass on, but when he game him this power quirk the two quirks fused into One for all.

SharableCarcass

" can it be transferred back?" That is one question that never even entered my head. But It should work

Sian Richardson

Yeah. I don't mind seasons 3 and 4, but season 2 is still my favourite which kind of says a lot about the direction the show takes. The league of villains was a mistake in my opinion. Took the focus away from where I believe it should have been.

Tamus Heath

Caught back up to the present! The wait for each episode shall be agony but I can't wait for you to get to the second half of Season 3 and first half of Season 4: It's my favourite block of episodes (*maybe* contested by some of season 6)

Kyle Garrett

To be clear, they didn't say they're looking for a Super Regeneration quirk, they said they found one after AFO had already healed from his injuries, and at that point it was useless to AFO, since it'd just heal him into the fucked up state he's already in. So they wished they'd found it 5 years earlier when it could have restored him to full health.

Awsmspaceball

is it just me or does the audio from the anime sound a bit muted?

Rainet

That’s AMERICAS ass. … or Japans, I suppose, but then the reference doesn’t work lol

Awsmspaceball

this next arc is? imo this is the 2nd best arc of the anime besides the tournament arc. i won't tel why because of spoilers, but i absolutely love everything about the next arc (except for perhaps the slow start)

Awsmspaceball

that would make OFA so broken. the moment the previous holder starts to feel OFA getting weaker, they can just ask to get it back and so forth. and OFA would only increase in strength each time it's passed back again

Awsmspaceball

but we do see *SPOILER* in season *SPOILER*. so that would make you think Aizawa could turn her quirk off

idkwhy

Will see then, thx :)

Maple

Luke, PLEASE watch the movies! They are cannon and characters and events will tie into the show later!! They aren't mandatory to understand the plot, but they will underscore and help add weight to some later scenes !!!

Littlespider07

Does anyone know if Luke has mentioned watching the movies? the first one is coming up soon after he finishes this season.

Kevin Croft

Everyone notices how caked up All Might is in that scene.

darkchaos125

4:20 The word "Deku" does not mean useless or useful. It is a word that means "to do", which depending on the extra words in context, can mean "Deki (deh-kee) nai" as in "cannot do" or "deki masu (mahs)" as in "can do". When Bakugo read Izuku's name, the characters can be read in a different japanese writing system and can be read as "De Ku". This is because Midoriya no only was Quirkless, but was simply mediocre at literally everything compared to Bakugo, Bakugo labeled Midoriya as "Deku", as in "can't do anything" right. However Uraraka used the word "can/to do" into something positive, turning "can't do" Deku into "can do anything" (with effort of course). 12:50 I get why you're frustrated (I was too) but Deku really wasn't as fast as you think during this race. 17:30 You gotta stop pausing to ask obvious questions the anime is obviously building up to answer within 5 seconds after unpausing bro XD 25:40 Very interesting question. In theory, the quirk can be passed down freely, and like All Might explained, it can be "Forced" on someone. In other words, One for All can be passed down because the original bearer "wishes it". The quirk 'will' be inherited regardless of whether the inheritor wishes for it or not, as long as they absorb the bearer's DNA and as long as the bearer wishes for it. 27:00 "Deku I know but Kacchan I dunno" It has been established Kacchan excels not only in physical fitness, but he's generally one of the top 5 to 10 students in grades since middle school. 29:00 This ep shows a scene where All Might explained he "defeated" All for One, which shows a flashback. Not sure if you noticed but it shows All Might caused enough damage against AFO where AFO's head was smashed or blown off. When we see AFO's face, you can see how there's a lack of nose or eyes, which is due to him losing his head. You can prob guess AFO had a way to preserve his mind, probably by transferring his consciousness somewhere else in his body. 32:00 the reason why Deku and the Public doesn't know about AFO vs OFA fighting is because, as All Might mentioned in Episode 1, he asked for the fight to not go public. In other words, the government has a hand in censoring and using information control to prevent the Public from knowing about this fight, because it would potentially leak and spread info about either AFO or OFA, and learning about either can be dangerous.

виина

Did you read manga when it was ongoing? If yes then it explains why you dropped. Watching anime for the manga reader it feels more "faster" about Deku learning how to use the quirk

виина

This was a little too much spoiler 😅

виина

Maybe a little but we have subs so no problem for me 🙈

darkchaos125

Deadpool gets a pass cuz he's mentally ill and "funny". e.e Daredevil is another interesting character as far as moral dilemma and justice debates go.

darkchaos125

and it'll reach a certain point where it won't be slow anymore, but that won't be till the last few seasons.

darkchaos125

The only problem is, OFA is 'meant' to disappear from Previous Owner. The quirk itself would have to make that decision in the end..... In 'theory' you could pass OFA to someone regardless if the next person wants it or not because it can be "forced", but generally consent is preferred.

darkchaos125

Would that mean Erasure cannot erase the ability to camouflage, such as the chameleon villain when USJ was attacked and Bakugo reflexively defeated the chamelon villain?

LookingForOwls

You seem like you got a pretty good handle on what they were saying, but I'd go back and watch it again - this is pretty important lore that they will reference time and time again.

Joshua Lopez

Deku doesn't directly mean "useless", it's more like "blockhead" but not as commonly used. I feel like even "blockhead" is more on the nose than "Deku". Maybe more like "Block" being short for "blockhead" is a better example? In any case, it's the kind of word that means the bad thing if you know it's supposed to mean the bad thing, but kind of ambiguous otherwise. Oh! Maybe Muppet! I mean, I know it's pretty strong in British English for "idiot" but it comes from the Muppets so it's not inherently bad. Similarly, a "deku" is a marionet, like Pinocchio. The full insult is usually Dekunobou, so maybe it's more like calling someone a "Mup"? Eh, my point is getting muddled here, but in any case, "useless" isn't necessarily the first thing you think of when you hear the word.

Adam Krasnodebski

Nah it’s definitely a bit muffled, not that big of a deal but certainly noticeable

idkwhy

Yeah, I was reading it ongoing at that time and I guess you are right, maybe it felt much slower due to that

SamJaz

So a Deku is a wooden doll that cannot do anything on its own, and it sounds a lot like “Dekiru”, meaning “Able To.”, so Deku gets used as a synonym for someone who can’t do anything on their own, but it’s also why Ochako made the Dekiru connection to Can Do It. Socially, the word is used in slang to mean a Struggler, but even that doesn’t carry the same connotations because Deku isn’t all might, he cannot do everything on his own- his real superpower strength is in working as a team with the other heroes This brings us back to Deku- I am useless when I am on my own, but together with my allies, I can achieve anything.

SamJaz

18:00 So noone can take One For All from Deku, but Deku can force One For All onto someone who doesn’t want to receive it.

James Perrott

Luke is not ready for season 3 haha i cant wait

James Perrott

Movie 1 between season 2 and 3 btw

Isa

Oooo im sooo excited to see ur reaction to the big events that are coming up later, its gonna be so peak istg

Amberyootoob

All tyrants create the thing they fear most.

One G. O A. T. One Dream

I find it a bit funny tho. Deku is only slightly more MC than the rest of the class, and is also a prime example of a Shonen Manga MC. ( he literally pops up in top 5 when searching Shonen manga ) So weird for that to be the main complaint for a Shonen Manga story. Imagine walking into a ice-cream shop and saying "I freaking hate vanilla ice-cream" XD

Krawbs

To be fair outside of the first popularity poll it has been Bakugo that is always #1. So many feel he would have been a better main char.

Shock

You have to watch the first movie before continueing to season 3!

Kirisaiteiku

I've been waiting so long for Tokyo Ghoul and Inuyashiki 😫

Zen Reacts

Except introduces cannon characters so it's absolutely mandatory

Zen Reacts

Don't watch the first movie til halfway through s3 cause there's a character spoiler. Just know it takes place directly before s3

Dartinin Vader

I would say you have alot to look forward to , You have yet to be properly introduced to the Best girl (my opinion ) yet. Oh and one of the few characters more grumpy than Kacchan their introduction is priceless.

dartcp

Of course All Might dies; you like him, and by doing so, you’ve activated your curse.

Xaniss

When it comes to the movies. They're hype, but basically meaningless. They are TECHNICALLY canon... But barely anything that happens is relevant to the main story of the anime. So if you watch them, enjoy them, but don't take anything seriously lol.

Xaniss

It is a little yeah

Phoenix_mercury

The movie characters literally show up in canon

Xaniss

Yes, barely.

Belle

yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yesyesyesyeysyeysyeyseys omg yes With the way he reacts to this series and his feelings about the characters and their development watching the movies is an absolute must. you cannot be emotionally invested in the characters and skip these movies. those movies had me bawling my eyes out, but also had me jumping out of my seat cheering like my grandma watching a hockey game lol

Belle

i search for your comment on every video

Belle

it is really interesting to see the differences in how people feel about content, because those are some of the exact things that make Deku and MHA so much more compelling for me than the majority of the anime i've watched. like Deku being simultaneously remarkable but unremarkable, and strong but soft just make him sooo interesting. it offers so much more than op mc hits stuff and overcomes obstacles. his physical strength and the power he inherits are not his greatest strengths. (i also don't see how crying makes him read as unable to handle his emotions. they leak out of his eyes frequently, buy i can't remember a single moment where his tears came out in a way or at a time where it impeded his ability to do something. he's just a goofy softie who knows he doesn't need to bottle those feelings up to be strong. but again, the differences in how viewers feel about things is so interesting. the vivid and dynamic emotions of the characters is what makes MHA one of my all time faves.)

Belle

I get the sense that Luke is the type to appreciate the things that add depth and flavour and detail to characters, even if they don't have a huge direct impact on the main show. i would in no way consider them meaningless. (I am BEYOND excited for Luke to see Heroes Rising in particular. his reactions are amazing in general, but i feel like he'd go nuts for that one in particular) the music is incredible, the animation is breathtaking, the fights are exciting, and we get to see more of our favourite characters in new settings and situations.

Xaniss

My main problem is that they took Budget, resources and time that could have been spent on making the main anime look better. Personally I would have preferred that

Belle

i think camouflage works very differently from Hagakure's quirk. the camouflage quirk seems more like an ability, but her invisibility quirk seems to be her bodies default natural state. she doesn't actually do anything to make herself invisible, she just is. like Kamui Woods. he doesn't actually do anything to make his body wood-like. this is just speculation, but based on how erasure seems to work, Aizawa using it on Kamui would likely make it so that he couldn't grow his limbs they way he does when working, but he'd still have wood for skin and leaves for hair.

idkwhy

I agree, it's always interesting to hear different points of view on the same things :)

patros36

to an extent T_T
