the fact hearing george swearing and having a comendy stand up thing compared to his narrator role on thomas is wild and the funny thing is stuff that he does for comendy fits well into a video clip of thomas and friends

TV was very restrictive of what they would say and show. I remember when a married couple would have to have twin beds. You would not see pregnant women on the TV. The word “pregnant” would not be able to be spoken. Times have changed so much.

You have to remember George Carlin originally performed this act in 1972. The censorship standards were very different at that time. I don’t think they were even allowed to show married couples sharing the same bed on tv at that time. Language evolves at a pretty rapid pace so words that seem quite mild now were considered extremely offensive back then. George was known for criticizing things that ‘polite society’ didn’t like discussing in public. Thanks for reacting to him!

Recommendation of an old comedian named Bob Newhart. The best was his rendition of Godzilla on the New York building. It is a riot.

To me he gives the feeling of doing a TED talk rather than a comedy show, it just happens to be funny.

David Stowe

For today's comedians, I like Jimmy Carr.

Have you watched or reacted to Bo Burnham's Netflix special "Inside"? If not I highly recommend you give it a shot one day. Bo isn't exactly a modern George Carlin, but he is a master wordsmith.

This is one of the quintessential stand up sets in all of comedy. Carlin is often placed in the top 3 of the most important people in the history of comedy.

I was around 10 and my brother 16 when this came out. We knew George Carlin from TV and his jokes were clean and still hilarious. We were out with our Mom and dad and my brother bought the 8-track tape of this special 9There were no warnings back then for language). He asked my mom to put it on while we were on the way home. They freaked out and we were cackling in the back of the car. Needless to say we never swathe tape again. I think first time I saw it on TV was an HBO special. Also, for comedians now check out Josh Johnson. Here is a routine about Taylor and it's really funny comparing Swifties to Wrestling fans. https://youtu.be/RGaXkw9TTw8?si=cYIYAFXG6mHQdF9r

Bill Burr's skit, no reason to hit a woman.

One comedian that I love watching specifically because he doesn't mince words is Randy Feltface. He actually said that Carlin was one of his inspirations. Randy has uploaded a few of his specials on Youtube, his shows are a mix of unfiltered humor, social critique, and hilarious crowd work.

Mike

If I remember correctly, Carlin was actually arrested after he did this show for disorderly conduct and indecency.

Please please please do Bo Burnham—Can’t Handle This followed by All Eyes on Me. I promise you that you will thank me later.

The 1970’s in many ways was more wild than now. Norms had fallen in the 1969’s and everything broke loose: language, music, sexual norms. So no, this being in 1978 was absolutely current with the times

Wonderxfull

Highly recommend watching Bo Burnham's 'Inside' Special if you have not already seen it. He took inspiration from Carlin.

Eric

a lot of people already have recommended it, but I'm gonna add in you need to watch some bo burnham specials too

this shit would've hit so hard as an autistic 16yo
