Knocking on the door, Thera wasn’t surprised to see Fontesh come out, it was her house after all, and she was specifically dropping Delair off, but what did catch her off guard was seeing Dewdrop in the other woman’s arms, looking like the scrungle had found all of the comfort in the world as it rested, the laziest member of their household not having changed at all in the past few days.

“Ah, welcome back,” Fontesh greeted, her eyes lighting up upon having her daughter back. “Did everything go well?”

“Largely,” Thera nodded, not feeling the need to dive too deeply into Ben’s failure to awaken or his failure to see an alternative to making a machine body when ultimately, they’d at least succeeded in saving Inux. “And I hope Dewdrop didn’t cause you any troubles?”

A part of her was expecting some; she could see the outsider had raised its space and time magic since she’d seen it last, but Fontesh just laughed, petting the creature as she did.

“Oh no, it’s been a little sweetheart, either resting or staying with me while I tended to the garden. Actually, you all made good time. I just finished a bit of baking if you and Mora want to come in and share some?”

With the offer, interest shone in Mora’s eyes that the boy couldn’t hide and Thera wouldn’t deny. She knew he liked Fontesh, the two of them spent more than enough time together with how often she and Ben asked her to babysit, and as things were, it would be nice for herself as well. The trip hadn’t exactly been a stressful one compared to so many others she’d go on, but she couldn’t help but want a break, and with that, happily accepted the offer, enjoying the snacks while the two kids woke and played with Dewdrop, letting her chat with the other woman while they were occupied.

“Everyone’s been adapting pretty well,” Fontesh went on as an hour passed, the kids not looking done with each other yet as Delair pulled out more games for the two of them to play, giving Thera no rush to leave when she had nothing else that day to take up her time. “The demis have been an endless help with getting settled, having neighbours that are so friendly has really eased the transition here.”

“I’m glad to hear it,” Thera smiled. “They’re good people, and their lives… well, they had a few issues of their own before moving here; they know what it’s like to have to pick up and leave everything behind.”

“I suppose it’s something a lot of people can understand by now,” she sighed before forcing herself to lighten up. “But still, we’re all doing our best, and the kids are really enjoying the chance to make more friends. It’s an adjustment, but I think it’s a positive one.”

“Well, if you ever need anything, me and Ben are here for you too. Speaking of, you and Delair should come over for dinner again sometime soon. We’d love to have you.”

“If you have a date, then we’d love to. My daughter certainly enjoys the company,” Fontesh said, both of them looking over to see Delair lifting Dewdrop over her head in a victory pose at whatever game she’d just won.

“Well, we shouldn’t have anything else coming up soon, so how about-”

Her words cut off as suddenly a feeling of wrongness overcame her, one she couldn’t ignore and took a moment to figure out the source, her eyes going wide the second she did and left Fontesh to see that something had happened.

“Thera? Is everything alright?”

“Um, I don’t know. Sorry, there might be a bit of an issue I have to deal with. I hate to ask so last minute, but could you watch Mora and Dewdrop for another night while I try to figure out what happened?”

“Alright, but are you sure you’re okay? You don’t look well.”

“Just a little caught off guard, it’s fine,” she said, standing up from her seat to turn to Mora and Dewdrop, doing her best to erase whatever worry on her face that was so obvious to Fontesh. “Sorry you two, you both might be staying here tonight, but I’ll come get you in the morning, alright?”

“Why, what happened?” Mora asked, able to tell there was something too that drove Thera to come up with a quick lie.

“Anailia reached out to me; she just needs a little help,” Thera explained, hoping her goddess would understand. “I have to deal with this, but I’ll be back as soon as I can so both of you be on your best behaviour for Fontesh, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Good, thank you.”

She pulled them both into a hug before leaving, allowing every bit of calmness she’d been trying to force to drop the second she was out of sight to rush to her uncle's shop and the gates that it held, needing answers as to why the bind that linked her to Ben had been cut off.

“Anailia, I’m sorry, I’m sure you’re busy but I’m panicking and need help,” Thera desperately prayed in the main church of her goddess, seeking whatever answers she could get and not intending to stop until she got them. “Please, whatever’s happening, just make a little time for me. Please.”

“I’ll always make time for you, child,” her goddess said, now by her side as the two of them stood in her realm. “But I’m sorry to say, I know what you’re looking for.”

“Something happened to Ben?”

Anailia hesitated for a moment, knowing how much the answer was going to hurt. “You know he’s always had his issues with some of the gods among us, and it seems that in their extreme ignorance, they decided to act on it.”

“Ben’s not dead,” she said, almost reflexively. “He’d be up here with you if he was.”

“... He’s survived a lot before, perhaps he’ll survive this too,” her goddess hesitantly agreed, not wanting to give one of her children false hope, yet wanted to believe it herself just as much. “But he’s been dealt with in a way that would be hard for anyone to come back from.”

“Meaning?”

“... He was dropped into the infinite hells,” Anailia explained, seeing the shock it left in Thera’s eyes. “Not just his soul, they were all too cowardly to try and fail at that, but all of him and the church he was in. They opened a hole to it on the world and he fell through. The odds… I’m sorry, but you have to be prepared for the worst.”

Thera said nothing at first, not knowing how to respond. She’d joked enough that one day some god or other was going to send him to hell for everything he would do, but she never actually believed it would happen, and there was nothing she could do to change that. She couldn’t open a gate there, and while she knew Ben had devised all sorts of methods of doing such a thing himself, she’d never bothered to learn any of them herself for what had seemed like obvious ethical reasons at the time. Now, though, regret at avoiding doing so was eating her up.

“Who?”

“Thera-”

“Anailia, I’m going to be a god of this world. Anyone who would do this to someone I love is going to spend the rest of my mortal life fucking regretting it until I can get up there to murder them myself. Who were the gods that did this?”

“I’m not stopping you,” Anailia told her. “I can’t stand the thought of letting anyone who’d do this to a man who’d benefited my children so much. With your power and your position, make sure you make them aware of the depths of their mistake.”

As always, a swarm of spirits followed Thera wherever she went, and usually, she was happy enough to just let them be, chatting occasionally if she needed to but otherwise just let them enjoy her mana and her company, but not then. After Anailia had given her a list of names, the moment she’d left her goddess’s realm, her mana erupted with requests to them as the world felt what it meant to enrage the spirit princess.

All of them had travelled the world and, while they didn’t typically take much interest, they did occasionally learn things, and with the volume of them that currently existed, there was always one that either had or could find an answer to any simple questions asked. Questions such as the location of every individual church that the gods behind Ben’s banishment held, with a request for the destruction of each not far behind it.

And when the spirits felt no faith in any power higher than their great ones and Thera herself, such destruction meant nothing to them. They could see Thera’s anger and feel her sorrow, and anyone who made the one they loved so dearly go through that were enemies not worthy of a second thought as they rushed to do as she willed as, in cities, towns, and villages across the world, every church and every monument to those gods was systematically destroyed, replaced with pillars rising from the ground naming them for their crimes for any who came to find them.

But, letting the spirits do it all themselves would do nothing to help her own anger, her own desire to act out and destroy, so with the request, she asked them to save specific sites for her as well, getting the space spirits help to make her own trips quick as, one by one, she was taken to each gods’ greatest church.

The first they’d build and the grandest, acting as pilgrimage points for their believers to raise even more faith, they were spots that had been strengthened by endless centuries and millennia of devotion and they were hers for the taking as she flew above the first, her soul sight and other senses working together to tell her there were people inside and got the spirits to remove them as she worked.

So what if the buildings were strengthened by faith? So what if they’d been empowered by thousands or tens of thousands of years of belief? She was the daughter of the great earth spirit, she wouldn’t have let millions of years of such strengthening stop her and, feeling every bit of stone and metal that had gone into that first location, grasped it with her mana like she was holding it in her hand and crushed it with all the force she could muster, leaving nothing but sand to fall where she left it.

The spirits constructed the pillar explaining the crimes of the god whose church had once stood there, while the city around her panicked at the presence of the mad mage in their midst; she had other concerns. Destroying it wasn’t enough, she wanted to be sure they never rebuilt again and, with a though, solidified the rubble and ground, merging the wreckage together into one greater whole that would be impossible to clean up without the use of magic before flooding it with her power again, yet in a different way, using one of the spells Ben himself had once spent lengths teaching her, one she never expected she’d use again.

While he himself lamented that there was no convenient way to become a bestower, as someone who was a non-affinitied mage, she had no issues with such things after learning the mechanisms behind it and put that power into practice, using it in tandem with her soul magic to flood the location the church had once sat, so deep that no one would ever bother excavating it away, with a spell that would cause weakness and sickness to whoever stood on the land.

She wanted to do more. She wanted blood, but she forced herself to hold back. She wasn’t in a position to kill the gods responsible, at least not then, but that didn’t mean she could slaughter their believers. They weren’t responsible for what their gods had done, so with nothing else there, she could only move to the next place, hoping that by the time she was finished, she might feel calm enough to decide what she should do next.

Here again, she told herself, feeling empty when she got to one of her last destinations, ending up at the church of Eneth once more.

With the building she found there being something humble. After Ben had destroyed the old church and with the way he’d been devastating their finances, they hadn’t had the money to rebuild anything as grand as what had once stood there, but, with many of them being earth mages and Eneth having worshipers who were architects, craftsmen, and construction workers, even if their jobs didn’t align to their god’s nature, they’d managed to at least build something to give his people a place to pray in.

She could tell that there were priests in it too, but unlike the previous stops, she didn’t bother taking them out first, instead collapsed the building around them, taking care not to give anyone more than a few bruises and to leave the statue of Myriad within completely unharmed before she cursed the land like all others, as those around finally spotted the one destroying what little they’d been able to rebuild.

“What are you doing!” Eneth’s apostle and Ather’s mortal father, Felth yelled, letting her finally see a decent target for her rage as the man and the priests beneath him came out to try to appease her, even as their reptilian faces filled with fear. “Please, haven’t we been through enough?”

The wrong words at the wrong time. Of everyone who worshiped a god responsible for sending Ben to hell, those were the ones she wasn’t willing to assume innocence for. She was well aware that they’d tried to murder Ben in the past, and with that being the case, they were less than dirt in her eyes as she landed to meet them, taking a few steps towards Felth and, once he was close enough, pulled her arm back and punched through him, leaving blood up to her elbow and a hole in his chest.

Though not used much given she was a mage, she was also strong physically, both from having her soul modified, as well as all of her own awakenings, and none of the other priests had been prepared for her, least of all Felth, who only looked confused before he fell to the ground, being the sign for the rest to move.

For ages, they’d expected that Ben would come back to kill them one day, his grudge seemingly endless, and while they hadn’t expected it would be his partner instead, that didn’t mean they hadn't been prepared to fight to the end, with all of their efforts worthless.

Most of them didn’t have their spears, and the ones that did felt them turn to dust in their hands. Following their god, most of them were earth mages, yet her power eclipsed them to a point that it was impossible to use such spells against her, and all other magics failed when put against her might as well.

But it wasn’t her magic she fought them with. Leaving each of them powerless and preventing any one of them from running, she did the same thing she had done to their leader. One by one, she went and she struck them, feeling them break under her hands as organs collapsed and ribcages shattered, all of them lying in a puddle of blood, desperately clinging to life in the few seconds it took her to finish.

She looked at them, only a few managing to stare back at her with fear, hate, or a maddening panic, and felt nothing, but, with a flicker of will, healed them once she was done. As grave as those wounds were, she was a soul mage who’d grown from the life affinity, tempered on endless hospital work, and had even regrown a body’s head before it could die. Saving them was nothing to Thera, and they looked at her in a mixture of hope and confusion, desperately praying that she’d be satisfied with that and leave until, with another small act of will, she petrified them, turning them all into statues to store into the spatial ring Ben had given her, with new ideas filling her messy thoughts.

“Alright, new plan,” she told the spirits around her, speaking with both voice and mana as the mental strain of the day took its toll. “Gather all of the apostles, oracles, and high priests of the churches we’ve destroyed and bring them to me.”

She wasn’t going to give them the same treatment she’d just given the believers of Eneth, at least not completely, but she couldn’t deny she wanted the option, and as people were summoned before her, too quickly for them to understand that they’d been whisked away, she petrified them all and stored them in her ring, left to stare at it in the end as she wondered just how far she would be willing to go if Ben really didn’t come back, while, in the background of it all, notifications continued to go off in her head.

Renn

Seems like it might be mega god of sacrilege time

Bury

Thanks for the chapter!

Drayko543

The failsafe should have activated by now, so the only reasons he's still down there are that it doesn't work or he doesn't want to leave just yet

MiroScavenger

Vengeance is best served immediately. Screw those horrid gods.

Techy

ben will have to share the divinity of sacrilege.

ZaA

Really struggling to figure how his teleportation amulet is just not working and he's gone long enough for all this to happen. Looking forward to the next one

Vorquel

Haven't seen wrath like this since the Olop chapter.

Blai Navarro

Finally, now we just need an Alt Pov of this chapter to flesh it

Matías Rojas

It probably works, he's just having some fun in hell before he returns

Drayko543

It's possible time works differently in the Infinite Hells. Equally possible that Ben just found something down there that can help him get stronger

Matt V

And here we are at the 'finding out' part of the proceedings.

Matías Rojas

Thera should be lvl9 in sacrilege now, I wonder if she'll awaken it

Rauva

Or the enchantments he made to hide the place from gods also cuts off the link between him and Thera.

Krae Z Hand

I was going to say Thera is under reacting but.. I think the only thing she hasn't done yet is go to the all faiths church and dissolve their monuments

E.L. Orange

Is that the chapter where Ben got trapped in the tower with the crab?

Cameron

I knew it was coming and man was it satisfying. I'm more surprised one of the stupid gods didn't inhabit a mortal to try and stop her, letting her kill them.

Dennis

It would be so funny if this causes the creation of a second god of sacrilege.

Dacota Deathmask

It was mentioned that pulling him into hell shattered everything he was, I wouldn't be shocked if the amulet worked and he's back already, passed out in that church basement with a shattered mind he needs to re-assemble.

SacredSteel

Not gonna lie. I expected more of an explosive temper than this slowly simmering Thera but this might actually be scarier. I pity the fool gods that will try to get her punished. İf Analia doesn't deal with them. Ben certainly will.

Hellophi

Let all those who cross the spirit queen feel pain. But actually tho I was not expecting the cursing of the land, I wonder if she'll be willing to use some of Ben's more unethical spells now, is it meat tree time?

Skrublorde

FINALLY! It's unfortunate for the uninvolved mortals to be punished; but Thera and co can't just let the evil gods' priesthoods, the core of their faith, go free to continue growing their power. iirc, Thera was at Sacrilege lv1 before, so it should be sitting at lv9 now. Perfect for awakening by killing a god that Ben holds still for her. I've long thought that Thera needs a high level of both Sacrilege and Tolerance. With her long lifespan, immense mana, and potentially advanced 3rd tier skills; the coward gods are probably already seeing her as a long term way to cut back on their faith consumption. Neither Anailia nor Ben would ever permit such a thing, but there's no guarantee that they will always be around to protect her; especially with the war. She needs to develop her own ability to tell the gods to fuck off.

Michigo

That's one hell of an opening move, for all the shit that is bound to go down in retribution over the latest divine attempt on Bens life. I say attempt, because all of us know he will be back soon-ish.

Call0013

I would guess Ben has found a Bunch of Innocent people in the Infinite Hells to bring back with him. That and probably more evil gods to Harvest.(That and maybe Gods that he can get blessing from in return for freeing them). I get the feeling that when Ben Returns he is going to bring an Army with him. Anyway looking forward to seeing what skills,Titles and Awakening Ben is go to get from his trio to and back from the infinite Hells. I wonder if Thera is going to end up as the Good Goddess of Sacrilege. Any way Looking forward to seeing what Skills and Awakenings Thera gets from this.

Luboš Hemala

Ben killed descended gods to achive that. Not sure she can do something equal to that.

Skrublorde

Hell, she may do more than one. Depending on how Ben's levels play out, he should only need to slay gods to push past awakening barriers for Sacrilege Inclination. He might content himself with leveling by torturing the gods' souls and let Thera get as much as possible from the actual kills.

DittoMikko

She surely will attempt it, how else would she kill the gods without having to wait

brennon Petersen

I figure that was part of what the spirits did in her place

Krae Z Hand

Hmm that's probably the case

Matías Rojas

Thera would feel him again through Bind if he was already back

TBONEMAN

Killing a god is overkill. She could probably do it by killings the apostles.

DittoMikko

I dont think anyone of them want the Myriad prison treatment that would come with breaking their house arrest

Skrublorde

With Ben's level of power, I see no reason why he couldn't descend a god and restrain them while Thera finishes them. I could even see him doing multiple to powerlevel her into a Sacrilege Contender.

Napalm078

'“Anailia reached out to me; she just needs a little help,” Thera explained, hoping her goddess would understand' Hmmm '“I’m not stopping you,” Anailia told her. “I can’t stand the thought of letting anyone who’d do this to a man who’d benefited my children so much. Oh my. Nice. Is her sacrelige up to levwl 9 now? Thank you for the chapter >:D

William Clark

Yes Thera, let the hate flow through you

Kallisti _

Holy shit, that was fantastic! I'm willing to wait for Ben's POV since we got to see Thera be such a badass!

Dotakiin

Love Thera finally cutting loose and taking action against gods that she previously would act deferentially for. Iirc, hell has been described as being filled with tortured and damaged souls from all of the universe. That is a lot that Ben can gain by connecting with them in both knowledge and thought structures, which could explain the time he is taking. He might even find it worth snagging the more useful bits of soul for use later.

SDCard

Thanks for the chapter! Does Myriad know Ben prepared for this scenario?

Matías Rojas

Yeah, they had a conversation about it in chapter 591

Emily Gurnavage

Goddamn. That was about what I expected and hoped from her reaction. Small niptick maybe though unless my memory is faulty: 8 levels in sacrilege? Wasnt she already above 1? Shes at 2 or 3, no? I remember her complaining to Ben about gaining additional levels I thought. So she either needs less levels here, or an awakening tossed in. I think.

Charles Hughes

We know time is weird there, it might just be delayed

Michael Hughes

"Good, good. Let the hate flow through you."

Luboš Hemala

I also though she was at level 2

Bettafish

Would be really funny if pxith and the others finally talk Thera down from diacide exactly in time for a pissed off ben to roll back up with whatever traumas and powerups he gets in hell

Michael Hughes

IIRC Ben discovered a stone that drains faith. She should figure out how to petrify the church leaders in that kind of stone to begin draining away the faith of the evil gods now that all of their churches are destroyed and their followers know of their sudden but inevitable betrayal. It would be akin to a poison slowly leeching their vitality and power. A drawn out death making them weaker and weaker killing them bit by bit.

Skrublorde

I hate to be a pedant, but the failsafe amulet doesn't teleport. It pairs with the portal under the church of myriad, and uses the bind skill to pull him towards it (along with other lifesaving features).

Redc05

This is worst i think

Nathan

I love how Anilia is like oh child dont worry I'm not going to stop you. Feel free to make them pay...

IdolTrust

Ah she is going to be the Evil Spirt Queen unlock. Thera is going to torture the believers to make their gods descend into their apostles.

Faramond01

The only reason Ben needed to be the one to kill The Demon God was that no one else had a chance without t3 sacrilege. Thera would be perfectly fine leveling sacrilege at this point so if Ben helps her reach t3 she can fight along side him and increase his chances

Faramond01

The only reason Ben needed to be the one to kill The Demon God was that no one else had a chance without t3 sacrilege. Thera would be perfectly fine leveling sacrilege at this point so if Ben helps her reach t3 she can fight along side him and increase his chances. If she awakens to the third tier what would the skill name be? My guess is something like Slayer of Evil Gods.

Faramond01

Something like Slayer of Evil Gods as a skill

Jevil

the chapter ended with "and shattering everything that he was" iirc so there might be bigger issues

Mare Matthews

Tranquility fury. Definitely worse. 😈

Mare Matthews

And he shall do it gladly. 😇 Judge and…. Actually, I’m not sure what judicial position they’ll hold over the gods, but they’ll both be something like Judge Dredd. 😂

Mare Matthews

Immediately is the best time to show them they had NO chance of keeping this quiet, the idiots. Thera’s doing an even better job of making this public than I’d considered, good for her!!

Faramond01

She has only leveled once. So lv0 to lv1

Kendaar

I called it, Ben may be bad but you really need to fear Thera when Ben is taken away from her.

Kendaar

She is a 3rd tier soul mage, and the next closest person to ascend a skill into 3rd tier, for earth magic. Any attempt to attack Thera is even more obviously dooming the world than a attempt on Ben. Even ignoring how they are currently in trouble, any move on Thera is suicide.

Kallisti _

I hope that the gods, having just seen how the spirits (and not even the Greater ones) react to Thera's mood/wishes, know better than to try to punish her for this. .....who am I kidding, they're dumb enough to try something.

Randall Klatt

Petrifying the oracles, apostles, and high priests was a fantastic idea! She's holding them hostage without causing them suffering, and preventing those churches from recovering. I totally expect those gods to be officially labelled worldwide as evil gods now.

Kedar

If time works differently in the infinite hells, I wonder if we will see ben get 3rd teir abomination source as he tests his terriforming seeds now that he has infinite space to do so. Also expect tons of titles and such from it.

Starter_guy

Was the failsafe not a beacon with a door to show him where to cross over from?

Matt H

As much as I'm interested to see what's going on with Ben, I kind of want another chapter or, at least, a part of one from a god's perspective of what Thera just did.

Starter_guy

It is a great idea, churches are gone, monuments in place calling out their shit. Church leadership missing, if the Evil gods are contained by the others they should have no recourse to rebuild. Especially if Thera just has spirits snatch up whoever gets promoted to fill the void

JC.Angel

I Bet Ben will find some souls that were innocent and bring them and give then bodies, probably just strolling around Hell, he might just be giving them time to see their reaction.

Drayko543

His mind is fractured every other week, I'm sure he's fine

Pheguth

Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn

Starter_guy

I really hope if the Anti-Ben Gods complain that the others pull the '3rd Tier' too valuable we will talk about it after the invasion card. I also hope Thera has Spirits snatching up anyone promoted to take any church position of power

Mare Matthews

Tranquil fury is always more terrifying. This is a clear message: This is the LEAST that I decided to do for your crimes. I have taken steps to minimize damage to outsiders. I am in control. And if you push me, more. WILL. come.

Starter_guy

Does Thera have diplomatic immunity due to her mother being queen🤔 or just regular 3rd Tier immunity

Preston Bowers

Allfaith, the next day: Announcing the opening of a new limited time art exhibit! PETRIFIED APOSTLES is the collected apostles, oracles, and high priests of the evil gods that hid among us. They have obviously been petrified and are unknowingly awaiting judgement for the crimes of their gods. If the attempted murder of Ben Heph is deemed successful they will be revived and tortured for several thousand years, if Ben reappears unharmed their fate will be left up to him, don't wait, this exhibit is extremely limited time. Attempts to rescue or harm exhibits will not be tolerated.

Thomas Issa

So many titles: second coming of Ben, the hammer of judgment, unholy whore, madwoman, grieving calamity, vengeful princess

Uroš

Judge and Executioner.

Alexis Lionel

Sooo, is turnip going to let dewdrop the eldritch snuggles and Mora the spirit king find out? Thera is deadly, but so is dewdrop and mora

Techy

I considered replying that but Ben has a lot more practice as torturer. Millenia of it.

Kallisti _

If we have to have another non-Ben POV chapter after this, I hope we get to see the other third tiers react. Falk is going to be grumpy with Thera that she didn't let him help, especially since they went after Olop together. Abel will be furious at losing her friend who always gives her tasty treats. Verbum will be a mixed of sad and mildly relieved, since he won't get home-cooked meals *or* dragged around anymore. Killi will be upset at the loss of knowledge. Etc.

Alik9999

as much as unholy whore sound funny i wouldn't really like it if it was a permanent blemish on her status screen.

Justin Aether

Y'know, there's probably a couple gods banished down to the infinite hells, and surely some of them are properly evil. I'm thinking Ben might simply be training his Sacrilege down there

A. Cast

This is probably my favourite chapter. Bravo (edit: Ben destroying the world with antimatter or matter from a different reality is up there, I think)

Justin Aether

It would be very funny to see Ben pop out of the infinite hells after literally terra forming the place

copperspike

he might not have expected his body to be included in the banishment to the hells, though that would be odd, considering what he did to ather

Justin Aether

I think "tortured for several thousand years" is the likely outcome either way ngl

copperspike

i mean it would be consistent with the titles they've given ben, they don't seem to be particularly considerate of the social consequences of what they call people they don't like

Drayko543

@copperspike he specifically made the failsafe because he realized how easy it is to open a portal to hell and push someone through

Nick

Thanks for the chapter

Preston Bowers

That was the hedge, if Ben doesn't come back it jumps to several hundred thousand years plus... Although I guess if you count mental time Ben could beat that even with a more limited lifespan. Also love the subtle implications that torture could grind vitality skills high enough to make people immortal

John Vistica

'and, with a though, solidified' => 'thought'

Zak Webb

I love grieving calamity. Great love and great power turned on those that wrong who she finds important.

copperspike

i have a feeling that ben is currently collecting the entire population of the hells to be judged by him, evil gods to capture and torture, people and gods that were unjustly or maliciously banished to be freed and brought back to help with the war, and people that deserve to be in the hells... either left in the hells or captured to be used for fucked up soul experiments?

copperspike

he's probably figured out a ritual to bring the totality of the hells to within the range of his judgment

Zak Webb

I think she only has 3rd Tier immunity, but I really doubt it covers this. The templars should probably be stopping her, but they don't have near enough power to stop her. I don't think anyone actually has the power to stop her other than the gods, but there is no way Anailia will let them do anything.

Mechanist Grimm

Measured righteous fury is a terrible thing to witness and this is likely only the beginning as well as likely one of the most controlled responses. If they thought one guy with a leveled sacrilege was bad wait till they see what many more people with sacrilege leveled or awakened is like.

Emily Gurnavage

Ohhh ok. I can remember 2 events for sure but not a 3rd. Keep forgetting that 0 is a level in this system.

Emily Gurnavage

Im pretty sure the mind shattering is because Ben *always* is sensing what's around him these days, and he suddenly and unexpectedly got shoved into a realm chock-full of random-ass souls. And when the portal was open before, an insane amount pooooured out. That place is *full*. So he prolly accidentally touched a bajillion different species/races/etc in a single instant and now his mind tried to change and incorporate stuff from all of them. With how that place works, he can potentially find souls from an infinite amount of already extinct races and we dont know if the Hells connect to other realities either. Plus more Outsiders are potentially there. Edit: AND GODS. If one evil God was there, then surely there are more. Potentially many more.

John Vistica

So wanting the Ben chapter but willing to wait as this was extremely satisfying to read. A quick Ben return would deprive us of so much great storylines on everyone else's response. There should be shockwaves among the gods on Thera's response and not just from the targeted gods. So thoroughly destroying every church and taking every main believer off the board was brilliant.

Alexander Dupree

Not that I’d do this but like she can imbue a giant spike or spikes with healing magic then stake each of the followers she has on them at each of their gods main churches. You know permanent healing while spiked through their centers

Alexander Dupree

If it were one she could call it a holy kebab

Alysyn

She might max out sacrilege before Ben at this rate😈

TheLostGolem

Not to mention that if they did Suceed, the spirits are all immediately leaving, which would be grounds for their immediate execution.

Laurent Jerry

Well its the infinite hells right ? Must be fairly large, might need a bit travel

Mare Matthews

Truths. The pair shall be Judge and Executioner, and Judge and Executioner.

Laurent Jerry

Ha ! I could see the murdery gods try to descend to get their priest back and getting obliterated, would be funny for Ben to return full of wrath and be told "your girlfriend killed 10 gods in vengeance"

Mare Matthews

“Ok, I’m officially really good at putting souls into bodies. I just tripled the number of potential fighting force for the Third Wave. PLEASE don’t question the people I brought through, I’ve established which crimes I believe deserve punishment. I’ll be back for those guys one I build a jail for them UP HERE. Anyway, grab Vividus, I hate her but we need people pumping out bodies.”

Mare Matthews

Cursed land was a warning and a reminder, not an attack. She’s still a few steps away from Meat Trees. Which may be taken if specific gods decide to try and talk with her directly…………

Mare Matthews

Noble Lady of Sacrilege. To contrast the Chaotic Madman of Sacrilege.

Mare Matthews

The gods genuinely have no one to blame but themselves for this, Thera made her opinions and willingness to retaliate well known in an event the gods DEFINITELY paid attention to. And now they ALL know she’s Soul Mage and a Contender for Earth Magic. NONE of this is a surprise to anyone with three brain cells to devote to memory.

Mare Matthews

Oh, wow, that’s sick and twisted. I definitely approve!!! 🤩 I wonder if figuring out how to transform a petrified person into faithstone without killing them can Awaken Earth Magic? 🤔

Mare Matthews

This is not an under reaction. This is the first step. Now that the mortal side has been properly modified, she’s going to have Anailia bring her to the divine side and have WORDS.

Mare Matthews

“Anailia needs me.” This was the truth, Thera just wasn’t aware of it yet. Although that’s more just her lingering awe at the gods, keeping her from realizing just how personally Anailia would take any attack on Ben. I know Anailia will approve of her child’s method of fulfilling Anailia’s promise to tell the mortals everything. 🥰

TheLostGolem

Mora probably already knows. Every spirit already knows, so the odds he doesn't are very, very slim.

Mare Matthews

“I’d be boosting you with power and supplies to allow you to work, but you don’t need them in the slightest. I know none of this will be an effort to you, but I hope it gets you some experience too, so know you have my blessing to be creative! 💕”

Mare Matthews

A communal church priest in a city with one of the major churches in it. They notice the idols representing the idiot 20 dissolved, and are confused. Then they hear something, run outside, and witness the growth of the Pillar of Truth. 😈

Mare Matthews

Thera had faith Ben would get back from being kidnapped by Ouan. And she knows he put plans in place for things like this, even if she doesn’t know the details. She’s as calm as she’s going to get, because she is 100% confident Ben’s going to be back and handle things, and she wants to leave him things to destroy because he deserves it.

Mare Matthews

Oh, point. I replied to a different post that Ben would need others to pump out bodies for the innocent souls he’s going to rescue from the infinite hells. Instead, it’s an exp grind for him! Awesome! 👍

TheLostGolem

No. She's got effective diplomatic immunity. For one, 100 gods were absolutely livid at Ben's death, so it's not just Anailia who wouldn't let them do anything. For two, Thera did the main churches and the priests, oracle's, etc, but the spirits did all the rest, and the world absolutely can't afford to piss off the spirits anymore than they already have. Effectively, they can't do anything to Thera since it would pass off the 100 gods as well as the spirits.

Mare Matthews

Singular question is if Myriad remembers, because of all the insanity Ben has pulled since the . I definitely think he does, because he’s keeping himself restrained in anger and not despair, much like Thera. But even with the failsafe being in the basement of the Second Church of Myriad, I wouldn’t blame him for forgetting it after everything.

Mare Matthews

Anailia, very proud: Now you see the power of the goddess you angered. Idiots: You did nothing! Anailia: I meant my child, Thera. Idiots: She’s still mortal, she’s not a goddess yet! Anailia: You saw her believers, their numbers, their strength. You say she is no goddess when her base of faith is larger than even mine? 😈

Kallisti _

When Ben gets back, he should start making faith tiles for Thera as well, even if her eventual faith base will be larger than his and Myriad's combined.

Carl Mason

Ben doesn't have to execute the gods, he can just execute their judgements against them. Still a fair use of Executioner, I think.

Carl Mason

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter! Oh boy! Im loving this! I wonder if Thera will awaken her sacrilege from this, or if when Ben gets back he helps her kill one of the gods and that does it. I also wonder whats taking ben so long? My first thought is that he is doing a census of the hells and plans on bringing back anyone he judges shouldn't be there. Or maybe his failsafe needs some adjustments or he needs to build somthing on that side and that will awaken his crafting. Im looking forward to it regardless!

Aurora1325

make it with Faith stone

His Dad

next will be Nati's perspective, Ding Dong! the Witch is Dead!

Uroš

Okay, hear me out. So, souls basically manifest in hell, right? And Ben is a 'Soul source' and he can produce a great number of souls. SO, while he's in hell, he can basically produce a whole army ever second, right? So he has an infinite army available to him. So, he can take over hell, grab all the good souls that the evil gods have sent down there over the millennia while they were "preparing" for the big war and get them all bodies before the next wave. Or something like that. I don't know xD But I bet he will not return from the hells empty handed.

TheLostGolem

Right?!? I mean, Ben hates people being treated unjustly. I'd honestly think that as one great big F you to all the gods that sent him down there, he's going to find everyone they banished down there and bring them back with him.

TheLostGolem

I can just imagine all 100 of the gods that were livid about Ben's death happily holding back the ones responsible and making them watch as all this goes down.

Titan Kios

You know what's be really great, giving every believer faithstone jewelry and draining every last iota of faith from them

Aki Foxtail

Been a while since a story set my adrenaline pumping. It takes quite the set of events to do that!

Nicolas

I can’t wait for Ben to get back. Thera kills the mortals, Ben kills the Gods. What a lovely couple😂😂😂

Zak Webb

I actually think that Ben's going to force the gods to the mortal plane for Thera to kill, turn her into a Tier 3 Sacrilege holder, and just torture their souls. He's been wanting an actual combatant for dealing with Oaun, and it lets everyone else know that the result of attacking him is the creation of another god of sacrilege. Then they can be a lovely, sacrilegous couple of gods.

Mare Matthews

I agree, I really hope Turnip is willing to make Grieving Calamity ascend into canon. It’s perfect.

Mare Matthews

I don’t know what the Trouple will think; on one hand they definitely like and respect Ben. On the other hand, for all they all own their lives to him, I think Will Edit JAKE, Amy, and Yuzu are some of the mortals most terrified of Ben (after the students from Nare’s group…)

Sammot

Shouldnt ben be able to let myriad know hes okay trough sending him souls? Since ben has condemnation? Unless that cant like jump multiple dimensions at once. But maybe if he awakens it he will be able too?

Kallisti _

I think you mean Jake, as Will hasn't been pulled into Ben's head and isn't part of the throuple. And even though Jake hates being taught by Ben, between their general friendship and the fact that Ben saved Yuzu's life, he'll 100% side with Ben. I'm sure Amy & Yuzu feel the same. Probably not enough to do war crimes like Thera, but they'll be pissed off immensely.

Kallisti _

...oh god, I would *love* to see Nati, Xilly, and Zallith's reaction. Torn between extreme relief at being free from future interactions vs knowing how upset Nare will be and how much Ben has done for the world (and them).

Kallisti _

I know people have been wondering why Ben isn't back yet, so I double checked when he created his failsafe (ch591). "But without testing, the only thing he could do was try to be broad about it and hope that should the worst come to pass, his clever mind and his planning for the worst would have been enough, with the core of each enchantment going down." He's going to have to tweak whatever happened, which will hopefully awaken his enchanting (and possibly crafting as well).

Connor M.

Feel like ben is kind of perfectly suited to take over the infinite hells and becoming the god of the underworld. Being the god of evil, destruction, and sacrilege. Plus if anyone should be responsible for deciding who should be set free and who should stay locked up down there, shouldn’t be a uber powerful mind god?

Gale Emm

The incoming Good God of Sacrilege

ZaA

It only moves the souls down to hell, not up. Hence Condemn and not Exaltation. Might be able to figure out how to do so, but doesn't seem like most important thing. What's it do for him?

ZaA

I mean.. biggest plot hole in existence is that he hasn't made faithstone collars for every single demon. Been saying this since the start

Mare Matthews

The poor boy, he’s going to be trying to figure out if killing gods is acting against his pacifism. I’d say no. 😈

Mare Matthews

Ouch, yes: Will and Step; Jake, Amy, and Yuzu. Got my names confused. 🤣

Zak Webb

He's been sending soul "snacks" to Myriad for a while, so we know it can send souls up and down. As for letting Myriad know he's alive, I'm not certain Myriad doesn't already know. Remember, the last time we heard him say or think anything was when he was attacking the idiot gods, which was immediately after they sent Ben to the infinite hells. I expect it took Ben at least a little bit (i.e., a second) to collect himself after finding himself there, and maybe a little longer to figure out how to send a message to Myriad. Even then, while it might ease Thera's mind to know Ben's fine, I'm not sure Myriad would take any risk on him coming back by letting her know when she can still have her mind read by other gods.

Mare Matthews

I can see Helori having her preferred treat equivalent of popcorn as they watch. 🍿

Mare Matthews

Ben required millions of years to get levels past T3. Thera will probably be a Contender for Sacrilege by the time he gets back and lets her kill a few of the idiots to Awaken to T3, though. 😇

Mare Matthews

“You guys thought BEN was twisted and cruel?!? Wait until you see what -I- can come up with!”

Mare Matthews

We haven’t been inside Myriad’s pov since the Cannonball Vore incident, and that was IMMEDIATELY after Ben was dumped into the infinite hells. For all we know, this is already happening, and Myriad just hasn’t had the chance to tell Anailia to tell Thera without alerting anyone yet.

Mare Matthews

Oh my, I hadn’t considered that. This being the thing to push them over, a nice reward for letting the idiot gods live this long.

Mare Matthews

…. Empty Skies and Boiling Stars, Ben and Thera are Hades and Persephone. ….. Empty Skies Ben even has Hades’ domain of riches, and Thera being Soul Goddess of Earth is even better representation of Spring than just Plant magic.

Kallisti _

Eyah, and once Ben gets back, "chastising" the responsible 20 gods *may*(/hopefully) push him to T4 Sacrilege.

TheLostGolem

She's also the goddess of the spirits, which include plant, life, soul, death, space, etc, etc...

TheLostGolem

Ya know.... Thera kinda petrified all the important people for the gods that threw him into hell, so once Ben gets back, he can force their descent onto their priests and whatnot, and no one will be able to stop him from doing so...

TheLostGolem

You think he would kill them and use their souls for training, or would he use them to level up condemnation to send the gods souls to the infinite hells?

Kallisti _

@TheLostGolem: While I fucking *love* that idea, we don't know that Ben can force a god to descend. He can keep them descended and boot them out (ch908), but making them descend is currently an unknown.

Kallisti _

@TheLostGolem: Imo? Ben will slaughter them and use their souls for training. He *might* spare a couple so that Thera can slake her thirst for vengeance.

TheLostGolem

Chapter 908 his sacrilege was way lower level though right? His sacrilege is now at contender level for 4th tier, right?. Maybe dragging them down will be the catalyst he needs to cross that hurdle?

Kallisti _

@TheLostGolem: From my notes, Ben was at T3lv1 in ch908 (might be wrong) so maybe he could force descent? And also per my notes, Ben is currently at T3lv8 for Sacrilege as of ch1066 (might be higher now). I try to keep track, but as I don't have a computer, I can't create a spreadsheet for his skills+evolutions+etc. I just write down stuff in my notes app. Although I personally think that Ben going to those asshole gods' realms and slaughtering them up there is more likely to be the tipping point.

Kallisti _

Oh wait. Oh no. No no no fucking fuck! We know that Ben can figure out how to get to a god's realm by going to their church, right? But Thera(+spirits) just destroyed *all* of the churches for *all* of the complicit gods. Which means Ben won't have a trail of faith to follow up to their realms. So he might not be able to find them for his revenge. .....fuck.

posiedon11

Once again, Thera only does stuff once something happens to Ben. I wish she’d start being proactive.

Mare Matthews

Surprisingly, not a problem. We know Ben can make functioning idols for gods. We also know communal church priests can provide faith to gods they don’t personally believe in, because them praying to a (misshapen) cube is how Myriad survived before Ben. Therefore, while it’s a bit distasteful for everyone involved, we can still create a faith trail for any known god who tries to hide.

Mare Matthews

Surprise return of Lehie, the elf priestess that helped Ben when he was first summoned, perhaps? 🤩

Kallisti _

@MareMatthews: Eh, while Ben has made statues for gods he likes (e.g., Helori & Jagal, ch567) the communal church had to wait for the approval of the gods for those statues. And it seems a bit far-fetched that communal priests would be willing to pray to an "evil god" so that Ben can go murder them. Don't get me wrong, I want the slaughter, I just feel like there's going to be roadblocks.

Blackking👑

The whole point of the item was if he was sent to the hells physically it's only recently that he has developed enough with his soul bullshit that he could theoretically abandon his body and still be around to survive

Kallisti _

🤣🤣🤣🤣 @MareMatthews: There's the answer! Lehie will help pave the way for Ben's retribution!

Blackking👑

It wouldn't do that much in the grand scheme of things and could piss off the demon guard before they're like actually ready to try anything against it

Blackking👑

That was for the authorities. He just needed to do sacrilegious shit to awaken it twice.

Blackking👑

I mean there's a lot going on his mind is fractured. He needs to recover enough from. That effect which permits the whole lower realm then probably fix any issues with his get out of jail free card

Blackking👑

Honestly, I doubt that he is all that worried about other people right now he has to deal with what the environment is doing to his mind and whatever the environment is doing to his body and it's probably modifying his get out of jail free card so that it actually works

Blackking👑

I mean, it's possible that he could potentially find some materials down there. The issue is that I feel like Ben probably has big shit to worry about his mind his body and modifying the failsafe so it works

copperspike

he adapted to the integration of the mind of a god of many souls and later a mind that's both utterly incongruous with either of the realities he's lived in as well as ancient to an absurd degree in an externally imperceptible amount of time, i'm sure it'll take him a long while from his perspective to adapt, but not more than like, a second maybe. also, considering the implications of eternal punishment that banking something after hell has i doubt that time differences between the hells and main reality has the hells go slower. so yeah ben's probably suffering a bunch and struggling to cope, but i don't think it's possible to keep him mentally incoherent for long enough to explain his continued stay in the hells on it's own, pretty sure if he used the contingency as soon as he collected himself thera wouldn't even have managed to leave fontesh's house before he was back

Carl Mason

I like the idea, but it can wait until after the war, unless they can find a way to reclaim the drained Faith. They might need cannon fodder, and a bunch of evil gods who need to pay a debt would make excellent defensive cover.

copperspike

i feel like he could kill them in their realm then use condemnation to send their souls to his body on the material plane and then soul crystal them

Carl Mason

Rather reminds me of Thor: God Bomb. "The time for words has ended. Now we let the hammers talk." A great line.

copperspike

ben has been shown to be able to follow the faith from a quick prayer to myriad to whichever realm he's currently in, even if he finds it too distasteful to lend them the image of respect that would be doing that himself, i'm pretty sure the first instinct of every single one of the people thera has petrified upon being unpetrified would be to give a prayer to their god, giving him both an opportunity to scan their mind and follow that faith to their god

Carl Mason

Get tablets on the altars where the idols should be, the tablets are the same as the pillars, but smaller.

Gerrit Tipping

AAAAAASAAAAAAAAA THIS IS WHERE I RUN OUT OF BACKLOG TO READ AAASAAAAAASAFDLKAHSLASHKLASFLKHASFLHKASFHLKØASDFLHKØASFHKLASFHLKØ

Carl Mason

The authorities leveled quite quickly (real time, with the benefit of everything he was doing in his subjective time) but his Evil God of Sacrilege skill required him to subjectively torture five gods for eons. He did get skill levels quite quickly and easily prior to 3.0, though, you are correct there.

David Burchfield

I also just imagine she has a swarm host of spirits around her now that would react instantly.

John Vistica

With her sacrilege leveling as it is, at some point she should be able to block the gods from reading her mind like Ben does. Don't remember what level Ben had to be to do that.

Dustin Friend

Honestly I could see Ben doing multiple things to delay his return. #1 Connecting with damned souls he encounters and deciding if they deserve to be released because they were sent to the hells as punishment because the god was petty. #2 Investigating the magic of the hells for his own enchanting. #3 Using the Hells as a power source to create something absurd without repercussions. #4 Stalling for time so that when he returns he can play up the attack for the sake of revenge. If he was only mildly inconvenienced they could demand forgiveness but if he takes a few days he can use that as ammunition to force the others to allow his vengeance.

Sammot

ZaA did you read the story?

Sammot

ZaA did you read the story?

juneboi2

He had to awaken it to King of Sacrilege

TheLostGolem

Didn't Myriad immediately break in to the realm hosting the gods that sent Ben to hell though? Ben might have some issues finding the realm, but Myriad wouldn't. Previously he wouldn't have helped Ben, but I see that changing in the case of those 10 gods...

Joshua Schneiders

only problem I can imagine with that is that the faith stones affect is extremely non-local, when he touched it it drained from a bunch of gods iirc, not targetted ones

Luboš Hemala

I feel like his body is undergoing similar adaptation to chaos as his mind had gone through. After all matter from an universe is not the same as chaos. Who know how he adapts to it. Hopefully he learned something from Dewdrop and perhaps his Material Manipulation and Rule Bender come in handy.

Ni

Thera had such a calm cold wrath this time around. Cursing the land was such a move

Carl Mason

The shattering may also not be fully limited to his mind this time. Just BEING in the hells was what killed Ather when he jumped through the portal before.

Matías Rojas

When Ben touched it, it drained faith from Myriad.

Brisingaer

I wouldn't be surprised if due to the quantity of gods participating in the banishment to hell; Ben was sent very very deep into the infinite hells. Or even beyond them. Still. He's got this.

Assault1217

Thera about to open an art museum and name it: “Fuck around and find out” Probably personally kill one of the gods or at least torture one. Surprised she didn’t get something like “spirit empress/god” with how she commanded essentially all of them

Hoogleman

Dont worry, he reached a point in his sacrilege where he only needs a believer of a god to find their realm, such as when he forced his way up to Nare as he was abusing the demigod daughter and the priest or whatever. So he doesn't need the church, just the faithful or a relative if they happen to have one.

Lionheart Copperhead

Ben having to fight his way out like doom slayer is a possibility if all the souls are trying to grab him

Georgiy

Thera gonna awaken earth magic finally. shes gonna petrify every faith pinata.

ZaA

it was bad enough that him touching it for a split second caused his god to scream at him. Hundreds of thousands of them would definitely weaken them and he took the space spirits powering their teleportation, so they have no good way to speed up the process in comparison to millions of space spirits you'd think.

Kallisti _

It drained from all the gods with a connection to Ben (Myriad, Helori, and Nare). Most mortals (outside communal priests) give their faith to one god. I can only assume that apostles+etc are particularly likely to only venerate one god. Ben is just weird for having god friends.

Ethan Flohr

Doesn't it just show him the way to it, through hell? Not immediately teleporting him to it?
