The second Ben fell, too many things happened at once. His body and the church both were sucked below, and when he passed a threshold, his mind changed while he was also filled with pain, disrupting his reaction, with the microseconds it took him to regain himself too late. The portal closed, and he was trapped.

Ben screamed. Not out loud, he was thinking too fast for his body to hope to keep up with the raw, primal feeling he was going through, but for a moment the outrage consumed the totality of his thoughts, understanding what had happened.

He had been tricked, and with it, trapped. Mortals that both he and they had thought to have been arranged for prayer to Plyzar had instead been cleverly positioned to let the gods that had made their original races descend on them the second their divine spell was completed in the heavens above, tearing open a hole in reality, just like the high elf Naloth before them, all for the purpose of getting rid of him, and he’d completely fallen for it.

Too much of him had wanted to believe that what he’d been hearing was true. That the gods were finally beginning to see his worth and the efforts he’d put in, and had been willing to start paying him in good faith. It had never once felt like too much to ask, and yet, instead, they’d resorted to that. What could undeniably be called an attempt to murder him from the divine, far above what he’d gone through before.

Eneth’s apostle and his priests, Olensia’s oracle, for all the rage he’d felt at them, neither had been acting on the orders of their gods. When Duna had ordered the past head of the adventurers’ guild, she hadn’t been aiming for his life either, but now things had changed. An undeniable attempt to murder him had been made, and he would see them pay.

If I can escape.

Forcing himself to calm down, smothering as much of his rage as he could muster, Ben took stock of the situation he’d been driven to, examining the nature of the plane he found himself in. His thought speed at its maximum, he hadn’t even been there for a hundredth of a second yet, but there were still things he could perceive.

Such as the complete lack of air in that level of reality, practically condemning him as he felt the fluids making him up start to boil in the vacuum he found himself in, but with a solution already in place. While that plane may have left him with nothing to breathe, it did have something found in abundance in the world above. Mana.

But, just because he’d be able to materialize some air and a proper shelter to hold it all to keep him safe from the void he found himself in, didn’t mean he could, though. He was in the infinite hells after all, and he was discovering firsthand the properties that had given that realm its name.

A fractal dimension, it was understandable why anything that might have spent some time there would call it infinite. Reality itself split there, shattering into what, for anyone else, would seem like infinite pieces, forcing them to experience reality infinite times over, with a mental structure completely unequipped to process it, leaving the souls within it unable to act.

Seems finite enough to me, though, Ben told himself, perfectly aware that he’d only been split just a bit shy of two million times, able to feel each separate fragment of reality he’d found himself in, as if he were as many bodies, all linked to a single mind. As for the rest…

The fracturing of reality may have given it the name infinite, but the effect of that plane was worthy of being called hell. Everything hurt: body, mind, and soul, and that was inescapable. Pain seemed part of the nature of that piece of the universe, as fundamental as the gravity he’d find above, but like so much other pain, he could compartmentalize it, forcing the experience on a few different segments of his mind to deal with the other problems first.

Namely, how to avoid dying. A quick, small bit of materialization showed him that while he may have split when he’d been driven there, the things that he’d make within that realm would stay as one, meaning he needed to create both all of the air that those countless bodies would need, as well as containers for all of them, but doing so would spend all of his mana, no matter how large his pool had grown, leaving him to divide the load.

Creating air was unavoidable, but considering how little of it he’d really need to make, that was manageable. The bigger problem was the shelter, but he had a different power he could fall back on.

So long as it works.

Worry gnawed at him, but that didn’t change the fact he had to try, and left him relieved when he succeeded, his actualization working even below the mortal plane to separate him from the hells beyond, even if every instance of himself needed to do it, adding a different sort of strain on top of the main one that layer of reality was inflicting on him.

And actualizing nearly two million things at once… God, can this just fucking awaken the skill while I’m trapped here at least?

It was a silent prayer that went nowhere as he dealt with his new location, being sealed within what was basically a coffin so that he’d be able to avoid having to materialize too much air when it came to it, having preserved as much as he could before what he’d been dropped with was all sucked away by the void, removing his risk of immediate death and left only one other thing he needed to consider. Escape.

And thank god I’m such a paranoid fuck, he grinned, preparations made before the second wave finally showing their value as he let himself imagine just how he would taunt the gods who’d driven him there once he returned. Bet they thought they were being real clever with this shit. Bet they never guessed I thought some asshole up there might try this exact thing on me and already made a countermeasure.

After dropping Ather through the gate to hell that had flooded the world with ghosts and let Dewdrop loose upon it, Ben had felt like he’d been able to see the future, then and there. Even back then, when he was only the king of sacrilege instead of its evil god, the deities of the world knew chances of ripping his soul from his body to damn were low, making the idea of condemning all of him seem far more likely, and as a result, he’d come up with a preemptive solution. A portal back from the hells hidden in the sub-basement of Stonewall’s church of Myriad, and the key for it wrapped around his neck, just waiting to be activated.

And with no immediate risk of dying to worry about any longer, that was exactly what he did. Every Ben in that plane reached up for it as one, holding the item tight in his hand and filled it with his mana, waiting for just a moment as the enchantments on it sucked in his power, all for nothing to happen.

… Fuck.

Cruel Turnip

Schmidt

Things can never be easy for Ben

Einheit

Well shit… so much for Plan A of using portal to get back.

Ben Cox

Ben can literally never catch a break, he really needs to up his paranoia because he can't keep being caught flat footed and not having his plans work. Can't wait for more chapters tyftc

Vorquel

About as expected. It was either that or he was already back and in hiding.

Schmidt

Feels like he just needs to quickly awaken condem and realm access together and then he can just teleport between layers. Easy peasy

SacredSteel

İ guess the activation condition is different from the inside of infinite hell. Still he has a skill that breaks the laws of physics. He might need to level it up a bit but he could manage. İf only he had Myriads church with him.

IdolTrust

Damn. His failsafe didn’t survive the transition to the Hells. Welp time to grind to survive. He might unlock some titles like “ Bear Grylls” or “Survivor” or “I’m a God” Skills “Realm Stabilizer”, maybe a “Creator”series of skills to use his source power to literally make a planet in the hells for him to survive on. Maybe another Ben like skills “Fractured Ben” with the ability to link all actions of infinite bens into one.

Reiner

Theoretically if Ben were a selfish guy and didn't have people he cared about, this place could be an opportunity to dodge the war lol

Joshua Schneiders

oh darn, guess the infinite hells are a bit more disconnected than ben thought from reality for his escape method to not function properly, also perfect that he is able to properly perceive the fractal dimensions properly with his mind both being highly divided and access to 6th dimensional thinking. another thought though, if there are any infinite hell natives him connecting to them could result in some interesting thought structure changes, alongside any souls he finds and connects to. the nature of the hells seems reminiscent of the outer chaos surrounding universes so perhaps there is something to be learned there along the lines of witness of chaos? also... he has the two portable afterlives with him.... he could theoretically save anyone he deems fit for such a thing by putting them in there, cutting off the pain of the dimension.

IdolTrust

I think he didn’t factor that he would be sent with his soul and body into the hells which each action is infinite in the Hells. Thus the cost to active the key is also infinite. He would have to make a method to directly use the mana in the Hells to power the key or simply make a skill like “Realm shifter” to move his infinite selfs into his “god” realm. Which that has problems as well because to combine infinite Bens into one singular Ben is the overall problem.

juneboi2

I bet the enchantment has to encompass all 2 million of him

Jonathan Wood

I wonder if this failure is due to something the other gods did because they rightly guessed he had an escape plan, or if this is some aspect of the infinite hells that he failed to consider when he made the door out.

Joshua Schneiders

ohhh thats a good point, the nature of this dimension has given him multiple "true" bodies possibly? unlike the normal route of making duplicates his soul is properly attached to his split bodies rather than just sending commands to it.

Uroš

Feels too short :(

Hoogleman

It quite literally says at the end of the chapter that he factored in his body being sent to hell, not just his soul, so not quite. It probably does cost more mana than he expected, but it wouldn't be infinite, considering this chapter also says it split him into 2 million copies, not infinite copies.

Tomáš Blábol

If there is not really good explanation why it didn't work, then I'm gonna be very disappointed. Also, chapter feels kinda short.

Luboš Hemala

Yeah... 3-dimensional enchantment probably wouldn't work. He will have to experiment how to really place it in that reality. Maybe mythic-worthy? Or perhaps some kind of reality stabilizer.

Sergeandgreen

I think its the realm itself. The gods can't see bens mind and only he, myriad and thera knew about it, with him being the only one knowing the specifics. So they had no real way of knowing. Specifically targeting that escape route becomes unlikely because of that. Not to mention that it would have been hard to do without ben noticing. And the spell they used was instantanious, so there wasn't really any time to do something extra. Because of that i would argue that ben lacked some hell specific knowledge when devising the key.

TheLostGolem

Soo.... start materializing rainbow crystal and souls, build up an insane stockpile of mana, use that to break out of the infinite hells, side quest of rescuing innocent souls condemned by evil gods while working on that?

blucube 14

Thanks for the chapter! Yep, failsafe malfunction. Probably the being split 2 million times that is causing the error. Wonder what he will need to fo to fix it. Having the pendent should help him regardless.

Tomáš Blábol

perhaps hell is some kind of buffer, like outer layer of this universe? universe is core, kinda, and hell is something like shell, influenced from both sides?

Sergeandgreen

So, I have multiple guesses for bens escape. One is awakening realm access or condemnation. The second one would be awakening crafting or actualization. I think acutalizing in millions of dimensions should be able to push bot skills a considerable way forward. WIth those skills he should be able to create a tool that allows him to travel back. The last option would be that thera or myriad open hell again to help him escape.

Alice

I feel like actualization shouldn't work very well, or otherwise be more difficult in the hells. We saw when he awakened it that higher planes of reality (godly plane, portal network) make it easier, so I'm surprised the inverse isn't true.

Call0013

Surprised we didn’t see any skill ups or titles from this.I guess maybe the system might not be connected to the Infinite Hells in which case he will get the skill ups and Titles when he gets back.(Might be a good Place to Grind some skills). This might be a good place for him to Craft his Mythical Item.(or an item that can get recognised as Mythical when he gets back).

David Burchfield

Well that explain why he didnt nearly instantly pop back.

TheLostGolem

Actualization is also tied heavily to mental power. For anyone other than Ben, it's probably way harder.

Sergeandgreen

I think hell offers some unique ways to advance some of his skills. I think actualization is obvious. Especially since he has mortal plane actualization enhancement, and hell offers the perfect way to go beyond that. The other skills that have unique growth options there are Aim (He currently has perfect aim thanks to the power of his mind and that skill. But in hell he could learn to aim at multiple reallities at the same time.) Realm access. (Either through creating a realm or through connecting realms/planes, creating a passage back) Condemnation (Not just condeming souls but bodies as well) Eldertritch mind (obivously it won't awaken to t4 but i think hell can push the skill to the limit and thous help it advance) Alien sense (i think that one is obvious) Multiversal affinity Material sense (sensing materials in different realities) and balance enhancement.

Alexander Dupree

You’re technically using fractal dimension wrong but it’s irrelevant. People understand the writing and really don’t need to understand the maths.

mahmoud ElDeeb

Mayby aether or whoever may have been unfortunate to fall before him in the system's history received the juicy titles before unlinking from the system due to missing the proximity condition.

Michigo

That's still on the table, this whole chapter happened at Ben-speed after all.

Michigo

Solution: only escape back to the mortal/ divine realm with a single part, and use that one to trigger a full escape. One way or another, he will escape from hell soon-ish.

Michigo

I wouldn't take that so literal. For all we know the mortal plane might be the lowest plane, energy wise. Given the typical idea of hell, with silly powerful beings being around the place... hell might be on par with the divine realm in this specific context. Granted, nobody in their right mind would WANT to be in hell. To bad Ben lost his marbles long ago, good luck driving an eldritch mind insane.

E

Why is Ben worried about mana? Isn't he hauling around his Church and likely some Materializers with a few billion souls? Regardless, now we play the exponential game. Make some souls, recover, more souls, repeat. Now Ben just has to figure out what to make. Good thing he has perfect understanding of the summoning spell. He'll probably have to invent a new "void spell" to get out of this.

Nematrec

Time to learn fractal enchantments that can work in hell

Emily Gurnavage

What if escaping fully ends up giving him 2 million bodies in the mortal realm? Thatd be neat.

copperspike

for condemnation he might also figure out how to use it to throw a soul out of hell, potentially into the material plane

copperspike

also capture any stray evil gods

John Vistica

Thera doesn't know about it as the gods can read her mind. Just Myriad and Ben.

John Vistica

I think this is just to 'wet our appetite' as they say. It would be a bit anti-climatic if Ben returned a micro-second after getting thrown into the infinite hells. I first want to see the gods' response to Thera's kick-ass response. This is a great story arc that can truly challenge Ben. So far he is just being reactive, but can now take 2 million moments to connect and explore his situation.

Starter_guy

True, I had thought of this before. Did no god ever consider sending their people there rather than have then die to the demons? Ben will regenerate mana, he can make food and water. Slowly grow his protective coffin into a base and gradually find a way to have all his selves work together.

Starter_guy

Or Dewdrop goes and breaks a hole in the realm to give him a way out

conkerer

I suspect that the hells are actually the inverse of the higher planes, otherwise Ben would be able to condemn things from godly plane to reality. It seems like a perpendicular direction away from the mortal plane than the godly plane, thus you can condemn from both the mortal plane or godly plane and both go to hell. Therefore in a sense hell is the same distance from the mortal plane as from the godly plane. At the same time, Ben has been actualizing entire planets and ecosystems in his realm, actualizing 2 million coffins seems in the realm of possibility for what he can do with effort in the mortal realm.

Tomáš Blábol

probably the biggest issue that I have, and have seen in other comments is that ben couldn't react, at this point there shouldn't be anything that happens so fast that he can't react, and with his skills, he should have been able to easily keep himself above the portal, if not stop portal from forming, his actualization works at the speed of his thoughts and with that he should have been able to at least make something beneath his feet and keep it floating, and he could even make something above him to keep building from falling on top of him, though at this point his body should be tough enoght to survive it easily. Point is, he has 3rd tier mind skill, which means 3rd tier reaction speed, and it even leveled up, so that he suddently can't react is kinda suspicious, and honestly bad writing, so unless you tell me that he wanted to go to hell, so he didn't resist them, believing he could come back anytime, then it's just bad writing, especially because in past chapters he has shown that he can read minds of gods without them noticing, if he does it fast enough, so his mind and his reaction speed is faster than gods, so there is no way that he coul not react, and that is honestly biggest flaw in this. REACTION TIME.

Carl Mason

All two million of him reached up and activated the key enchantment. If anything, having so many bodies all trying to activate it is causing interference, I would think.

Carl Mason

Unless they were specialized for life in a vacuum of fractal dimensions, which is difficult to predict or adapt on short notice without the correct abilities, sending them to the Fractal Hells would not be a shelter from the demonic conquest. It would just be self inflicted extermination.

Carl Mason

The system is bound to ones soul, as well as the world, so Ben will not have been cut off from the system. Remember the demons got system access and skill development as soon as the portals opened, as well. That is not to say that something could not possibly be interfering with it, making things difficult for him, but considering the system is a quantification system more than an enhancement system (it does have a growth stimulator, not what I am talking about) he should be unbothered by removal from the main system.

Carl Mason

Ben keeps the First Church of Myriad in the shop, he did not, apparently, bring it with him for the body job in Inux's hometown. I did not notice any reference to it, anyway. He does not have it with him. He can always make another something like it, though. Like he did when he was in the demon prison.

Luboš Hemala

I think you missed the part where Ben almost died in microseconds. Apart from Ben, everyone else is screwed.

ShadowInLight

Maybe he will un-fracture the infinite hells?

Sammot

Thats not needed, if Ben's goals was just to dodge the war. He could just leave the planet.

Carl Mason

In anything requiring physical reaction, Ben cannot physically keep up with his mind. It literally injures him just to try. This was a matter of magic, so he should have been able to do something. The issue with that, is that he was taken by surprise with no build time, he very literally became aware that there was a problem at the exact moment that it was too late to react. Furthermore, the effect of falling into the Hells was immediate, crippling pain such that even in the microseconds of time he could POSSIBLY have reacted before the portal was closed, he was unable to react due to the crippling pain. By the time he was able to gather himself, he was trapped, and only able to find some way to protect his life from exposure to the dimension of fractally mirrored vacuum.

Corvusamous

While mana cost would explain it another factor is that that enchantment wasn't designed to function within 2 million different realities. With magic as a part of physics in this world the way the enchantment function must be different

Corvusamous

Power scaling time based shenanigans: Thera destroys 20 religions in an afternoon due to her army, Ben 1) asseses his situation in less than a second 2) moves his hand 3) begins reassessing it all in maybe a total of 2 seconds if I'm being pessimistic

Corvusamous

Interference is a good idea. Maybe a different enchantment design would enable it? I am worried that if he only sends one up that a bunch of souls get out. Unless condemnation is an option again

Corvusamous

Depending on the size of the dimensions, maybe he didn't actually move his hand to his failsafe in all of them? If he's in a dimension of 0 he wouldn't be able to move as reality would be a single point. In 1 he would have to destroy material to get to it as reality would be a line. In 2 he's working with a flat reality like he's a drawing on a piece of paper. Maybe a source of the pain is his body being forced into dimensions less than 2? I'm not enough of a math nerd to visual how fractional realities would work unfortunately. The thought of "getting squished constantly hundreds, thousands, or millions of times over" sounds hell worthy to me.

Corvusamous

There is so much to work with here I love it

Corvusamous

I assumed it was 2 million dimensions above 2. Do you believe it's just split realities?

funktorial

eh the details of the realm are vague enough that I could believe that things in hellspace scale with a weird fractional factor

Hellophi

Tyftc, interesting, very interesting

Hellophi

The comment section feels longer, there are more theories than the story itself.

Hellophi

I didn't even think about any of the dimensions being in different dimensions... That sounds stupid, but you get my point

funktorial

ofc ben will get out of this somehow because he's the main character. but more than that, he'll get out of this because he'll get to be SO smug and petty when he crawls out. smugness, pettiness, and survival?? can't think of anything better to motivate ben

Hellophi

Not only was he cought off guard, hopeing that the gods were finally being reasonable, you are also asuming that going to hell was a vertical fall, and not some sort of teleportation, like a horizontal shift in reality rather than a pit opening under Ben.

Bluesun Rise

Makes sense. It's operation is based on bind, and last chapter showed quite clearly that once the gate is closed at least, bind is no longer able to connect properly. Honestly he probably should've considered that possibility back when his bind was interrupted while captured by Oaun. Redo the hell gate enchantment so it activates when it looses contact with the failsafe and then shut itself off again if that doesn't regain connection. Alas, with all those minds Ben is still a bit of an idiot sometimes.

Enxes

Dewdrop originally broke into the infinite hells from another universe so it acting as a buffer from the Chaos makes sense. Plus the fracturing of minds could be a diluted effect of the outside chaos.

Alexander Dupree

No fractals are partial dimensions. They don’t have to be continuous but they aren’t broken into finite pieces. They are the output of a function that partially maps a lower dimension manifold onto a higher dimension. Drawing a line that always covers 30% of any 2D plane no matter what the scale is a fractal. It’s hard for me to describe it without using esoteric language around math. I’ve deleted this comment like 8 times because I can’t explain it easily. https://youtu.be/gB9n2gHsHN4?si=euWCxPb8_JSe61ne this is a good place to start.

Michigo

The key take away from this chapter: yeah, he got banished to hell and all (he will figure it out), but this was the first true attempt at his life made by the local dipshit gods. Everything before was just petty drama as far as Ben is concerned, but this time is different: they crossed the line. His responses have always been proportial (biased by his own pettiness!), and i have no doubt Ben will show why they wanted to kill him in the first place. Remember kids, there is no medicine against regrets.

Mare Matthews

Cruel to us, with the cliffhanger. Cruel to his characters even worse: I could -not- have imagined “infinite hells” would be THIS. If being fractal is putting such a load on the Eldritch Mind, even after experiencing an Outsider… 😬

Mare Matthews

Time to go through Plans A.1 through Plans A.100, I’m hoping the subbasement portal gets used! But I’m intrigued by what variants Ben will need…

Mare Matthews

Lots of souls to practice on, if Condemning a soul in the infinite hells to a different part/fragment of the infinite hells works…

Mare Matthews

I’m thinking a ritual time, Connect all two million Bens.

Mare Matthews

It’s almost like reality itself hates him. Reality’s name is ProbablyATurnip, if you weren’t aware. 😂😂

Alexander Dupree

Basically if you imagine it being something like 1.5 dim then every instance of him should also have the 1.5 scaling applied so there should always be infinite copies if there is multiple copies. One version of himself in one location in the fractal or infinite partial versions of himself.

Mare Matthews

I do believe False Ben is going to be necessary here, since he’s legitimately multiplied and not spread out like normal.

Arusalan

Omniscience training wheels

Mare Matthews

I think Starter_guy also missed the part where a soul entering hell experiences “Pain as a constant,” as omnipresent as gravity would be to us. And as someone with arthritis, I can verify that while there’s a degree of compensate and compartmentalization that allows one to function with unceasing pain at rest, I’m pretty sure the infinite hells don’t allow for a “rest” state due to the fracturing. 😬

Mare Matthews

That could even be why they’re “Infinite” - the layer of reality is simultaneously touching every other Outside reality, being influenced by an infinite number of fundamental laws. Less a place created as a realm of torment, and more a consequence of how (the narrative) reality interacts all other dimensions.

Sergeandgreen

yeah, that is what i meant. But he can already condem souls up to the gods realm, so i thought condeming a body is the next step and the one that saves him. I'm almost sure he could condem a soul up to the mortal realm from hell or at least up to his or myriads realm. So, if everything fails, he would condem his soul to myriads realm and ascend to godhood.

Sergeandgreen

oh, right, i thought about that one a few days ago but just forgot about that option when thinking about it when the chapter came out. To sad that he didn't have enchanting at t3 or he could have enchanted an item with the skill.

Mare Matthews

I like that Aim isn’t even something he’s grinding for as a bonus, he’s going to have to learn to aim for every fragmented part of himself. Also: Rule Breaker, the Forgotten superskill! I swear it’s going to be important, someday, soon!! 😭😭 😂

Mare Matthews

One of Ben’s lesser known skills: Call A Friend.

Mare Matthews

It’s difficult to create obstacles for Ben that his power set shouldn’t just immediately overcome, as this comment section notes. I think the Infinite Hells adequately justifies as a sufficient obstacle for Ben. 😳

Mare Matthews

Ben himself says that normal souls would experience being infinite. He’s as “about two million” due to Eldritch Mind. It’s more a Ben-specific perception filter over the fractal reality. At least, that’s my reading.

Mare Matthews

Thera herself said she knew Ben had “plans,” but distanced herself from the details because at the time she found it distasteful. And because of the “gods reading minds” I’m pretty sure Ben never told her where it would be anyway.

Mare Matthews

Fandom always expands a narrative. And it’s definitely short, but we did get two beefy chapters previously and it’s a natural cliffhanger so it makes sense.

Mare Matthews

Titles are a response from powerful others, only codified by the System. Ben wasn’t the Forgotten One upon being ignored at summoning, only when enough gods commented on the fact. Thera was only the Spirit Princess when the lesser Spirits decided to use the name. Edit: Oh, wait, I forgot about “First” type titles and Skill reflective titles. Those seem to be inherently System-granted. But Ben’s not the first mortal to be bodily dropped into the infinite hells, so I don’t think any of those apply here.

Mare Matthews

There’s also the scaling problem. It sounds like theoretically, Ben is surrounded by enough mana due to the nature of the infinite hells that it’s even better than wearing the Church. But the amount NEEDED outstrips even that.

Krae Z Hand

Unfortunately, it's the one thing Ben can't anticipate

Krae Z Hand

I think i realized why his crafting hasn't awakened to T3 yet. All his projects have been too limited in scope. If his skill was in smithing he would have awakened it by now, but it's in crafting which includes other disciplines. Ben needs to attempt more projects that involve architecture or cooking or any number of other things that align with the various branches of the crafting skill's paths

Blackking👑

Why it just a unique soul mod that came with memories and a little bit more stats it's also already become a part of soul craft

Blackking👑

Pretty sad to see that none of his defensive skills awakened yet from this experience

Blackking👑

The whole point of the failsafe was if someone opened a portal physically and he ended up trapped on the other side because he did research and realize that even a level 5 awaken space magic user could do it with the right spell

Blackking👑

I mean, unless he's going to abandon his body, he would have to make it so it affects his physical body as well

Corvusamous

The segments of realities being in fractional demensions? Yeah it's confusing and I'm here for it

Doodlenoodle

Thanks for the chapter! Can i request that next time you write such a spicy chapter to make us wait longer and give us a dobble chapter right of the bat? I want to read more!!

Slicedtoad

My only complaint with this chapter is the whole "needing air" thing. His regen should take care of that trivially. You've made him far to powerful for vacuum to hurt him.

Manoli

I don't remember how the enchant was done, but if bind was used in it, then that would fail because Thera's one did fail to cross into hell. Ben might need to start breaking some rules soon.

Mare Matthews

His body really, really wants him to suffer. This is a canonical constant! 😂

David Burchfield

I think it is more of an end point thing. He was thinking one to one, not one to two million.

Assault1217

Could be due to his sense of panic, despite his insane thought power he has missed some obvious things. And when you’re “drowning” or feeling like you are. Your body hyper focuses on fixing.

Assault1217

Big bad: Portal doesn’t work/open Good news: portal exists and can be fixed or modified Bad news: Requires someone to fix/know about it Good news: Myirad knows and can inform Falk Bad news: How will they find Ben in an infinite hellscape Good news: Thera, system reader guy, friendly gods, other soul readers Bad news: How will they actually retrieve Ben, since he will probably need to enter a sort of hybirnative state to conserve resources Good news: magical eldritch abomination cat

Mypage

Maybe quillith could handle it?

Isaac Boyles

Someone had a good point earlier what happens if Ben Condemns someone from there, where do they go then

Matías Rojas

tbf, not even half a second has passed

Napalm078

'Seems finite enough to me, though, Ben told himself, perfectly aware that he’d only been split just a bit shy of two million times' >:) Thank you for the chapter :D

Carl Mason

Maybe First Survivor, I have no doubt yhat he will survive, and probably be the first to do so.

Luboš Hemala

Is this teasing Ben that he might get the legendary skill Pain tolerance?

Luboš Hemala

Maybe he can let Myriad know by condemning souls back to his realm, possibly showing the way. It worked from mortal plane to both divine realm and infinite hells. And if Myriad absorbs them he can read their imprinted memories.

Mare Matthews

While not ideal, Ben knows how to create biological bodies that a soul not-considered-dead uses in a way that is functionally identical to living in normally. … It does require a lot of modifiers to describe, of course.

Mare Matthews

I forgot the merge with Soul Craft. My original thought with False Ben was that it was a version of himself inhabiting an entirely separate body, instead of being puppeted by Ben from a distance. Since it seems inhabiting a body like Dewdrop and Inux do is different than what Ben has done with homunculi.

Mare Matthews

Opps, just reread that section carefully, I completely misunderstood and Alexander Dupree is right. It -feels- infinite to someone who is not used to having over a million versions of themselves; they can’t comprehend that vastness. Ben, on the other hand, surpassed that a long time ago. So it -appears- fractal to individuals without an Eldritch Mind, but Ben is using the terminology symbolically for a close but inaccurate approximation of what is happening.

Carl Mason

Reread paragraph one, it seems clear that it was a portal he fell through. It is also clear that he could have reacted except the transition was brutal.

Mare Matthews

Literally, if this doesn’t work, nothing will. 😳

Carl Mason

Super Hell, obviously. But seriously, someone had an interesting point in that vein about the Hells being part of the universal barrier against Chaos. Which sounds ...not incorrect. I don't imagine it will ever be relevant, but it is an interesting question.

Isaac Boyles

Oh hey it might be, after all Ben at least theoretically knows how to get out of Chaos thanks to Dewdrop

Starter_guy

I was thinking more like the siren magic / puzzle god, stasis them and them dump them there en-masse hoping one day the god can get them back (as surely the gods have some idea of what it is like if they have the ability to condemn people there. Ben is like a 1 in a million shot for the person sent there to be able to do anything.

Mare Matthews

It doesn’t sound like there’s a lot of control in opening the portal to the infinite hells; I don’t see how even a full powered god with a Space and Time domain (other than Ouan) would be able to navigate what Ben’s describing. -Theoretically,- a god should be able to follow a trail of faith reliably, but that doesn’t work with the “stasis” idea and leaving anyone without an Eldritch Mind in there would break them worse than the Ouan Prison. They may be -praying,- but I doubt it’s true Faith they’re sending out.

Jonathan Wood

That is also assuming that time flows at the same rate here as it does outside. But I have to believe that whatever solution Ben finds will need eons ( by his measure. Probably just a day or two for everyone else) to accomplish.

Jonathan Wood

2 millions Bens all at once casting a Ritual magic to escape Hell seems like a potential solution to his enchanting Awakening finally.

Manoli

Maybe, but the Greys would need to observe 2 million fractured reality in search of Ben, imagine your screen separating into 2 million different feeds and you need to search every one of them to find a human in what might be a universe sized hell. Pretty scary, though they might have done something similar when they observed the different universes to find a solution to their sun problem.

TheLostGolem

He's been through all the plans though. From A to Y.

copperspike

iirc ritual magic - while very useful when enchanting - isn't itself a kind of enchanting, though i guess if he used that 2m ben ritual casting to enchant something to let him escape hell that would work

copperspike

i don't think he's able to trivially access unbound mana in the same way he can just take some from a soul's mana pool, so despite being in a place filled to the brim with mana it's very possible that it takes a while for it to get into his mana pool

Jonathan Wood

Yeah my reasoning is that usually Ben’s suffering involves some kind of reward in the way of gained power due to the stress and overcoming his limits just to survive. So I figure this time might be the actual catalyst for his Enchanting. And what do 2 million bodies and Enchanting have in common? Ritual Magic. Bonus fact is that the original instance (for this story anyway) of reality being ripped open to the Infinite Hells was done… via Ritual Magic!!! Edit: Would make it come full circle in a very satisfying way. He learns ritual magic and applies that to his enchanting. That one guy learns about his ritual enchanting method and it’s the key to finishing his project. Who proceeds to rip open a gate to hell in an effort to siphon power to become living gods. Dies/taken over by a Death God that had been banished in the distant past… other stuff Ather/Dewdrop/etc… Ben banished into Hell. Ben breaks out of hell utilizing Ritual Magic and Enchanting to do something outrageous like condense Hell into a single layer.

Althion

Can't wait for him to somehow subsume the infinite hells into his realm

Adhoah Cinnidhlaoch-McCoinnich

Incorporating fractal enchantments finally breaks him through the tier ceiling with a mythic item? I am so ready for that, I hadn't even considered the inspiration this place might have on his enchanting! Thanks for the insight ❤️

Kallisti _

I know Ben hates the part of Soulcraft that can steal skills, but couldn't he *pay* someone to gain level 0 pain resistance and snatch it? It wouldn't be stealing if he fairly compensated them for it!

mahmoud ElDeeb

First to survive with their physical body was dewdrop

I've 2 main theories: Either it failed because Bind stopped working (which is a major thing in his failsafe as described in ch591) Or it failed because fractally, Ben just activated the same failsafe a million times at once and the other end can't handle that. Could be bind failing due to the fractal thing too.
