I think the thing about Billie‘s songs is that she really has some emotional depth to her that’s reflected in her songs but in her interview she likes to just chill and be goofy

i definitely think that though it’s easier to absorb billie’s music to your own experiences as adults- I think for Olivia she wrote Sour at a specific time in her life and it was kind of a story and Guts was more of her trying to find herself and handling her last years as a teen. Unlike Billie who never resorted to making music about her age specifically or the teen experience. More so just life experiences

I do think it also just depends on the person. I’m 25 and I don’t really relate to Billie’s music but very much relate to Olivia’s music. But I do also have a high level of anxiety and maybe that’s why😅

I actually think the Billie’s music has felt too young for me. I’ve found some of Olivia’s music more relatable to a wide range of ages. I actually more like Billie’s personality, I only listen to one song of hers, Happier than Ever. She does have a very timeless voice though, she gives me Judy Garland vibes

I think that Billie will win AOTY. And tbh, it’d be well-deserved. That album is incredible from start to finish, imo. I also hope she gets the award for ‘birds of a feather’.

I think the maturity aspect is a very interesting discussion - there is an immense talent to be able to write in a way that makes age, gender etc irrelevant. I think I can get a bit uncomfortable in the discussion though, generally, even though I know, as Em points out, it's all of equal value: because of the fact that "girly" things has a very charged history of being looked down upon or seen as "poor" or uncultured (and socially it's actually still not of equal value). Billie presents in a somewhat masculine way and writes mature music - this brings respect; Olivia can be seen as girly and emotional - she's seen as good but young. As a lover of girly things, and as someone who's had to defend their love for Taylor, I feel I have a wound around it. I guess I just felt a need to bring in that perspective, just for myself, that there is or might be some charge around it on a societal level. It's a complex discussion. I was a super sheltered kid so going into college I had never heard a Billie song before. My sophomore year I went on a weekend trip to Gov Ball with my friends and Billie headlined and I haven't been able to stop listening to her since. Such a powerhouse!

Hi chickens, another superior reaction as per usual. I love Billie and think she is so extremely talented (seeing her on the 21st of Feb in Brissie), and clearly Finneas is on another level too, however I have never really fathomed him until about a week ago. I came across his cover of Time Of The Season by The Zombies on Triple J's Like a Version. I was blown away because i didn't realise he could sing like that. If you have already watched it or get a chance to I'd love to hear your thoughts. I've always known he's so talented as a producer and song writer, but had no idea is his voice could sound as superior as that. To be honest I haven't given him the time to listen to any of his solo music but I definitely will be now. I love you both, watching your videos make me so happy and a little less lonely, so I thank you deeply x

I loved the discussion of how you guys feel like you can relate to Billie’s music more than Olivia’s. To me, Olivia’s music is more relatable, and I’m 32 lol. I think she PRESENTS as this angsty girl with the heavy production songs, but when you analyze the lyrics, it’s evident how precocious she is for her age. Olivia’s writing reminds me a lot of Taylor’s. The way she structures sentences and all of the unique metaphors. When you look at songs like favorite crime, logical, the grudge, making the bed, vampire, it’s just so clear that she is much older in her mind and soul than how she presents herself to the world. One thing that I think really separates her from other artists is that she writes about taking accountability for her own actions and mistakes she’s made. At that age it’s easy to think of yourself as the victim in everything that goes wrong in your life and you can definitely tell that Olivia doesn’t. It’s very wise and refreshing. Making the bed is a good example of that. Her next album is going to be sooooo goooood. Love you guys so much 🫶🏼 P.S. So sorry about my Olivia rant I know this was a Billie video 🤭
