Superior ranking, although I would have definitely put the Albatross much higher. The whole song makes me think "witch." Emily, you asked about visions when you listen to songs--I just realized that with TAYLOR SWIFT songs ONLY, I actually either picture her singing it OR someone generic playing the instruments. Like a band or orchestra. Or I imagine the words lining up like a poem in my head. I'm so into the listen that I'm only thinking about the song itself, the sounds, and the lyrics. My mind never wanders to visions. But otherwise, yeah I do, I daydream a lot usually when listening to music.

how you guys speak about midnights is how i feel about ttpd 🥹 i actually think midnights is not underrated at all in fact id argue its most swifties favourite or in their top favourites of her albums. and i think the general public received it well for the most part and it also won album of the year so it has critical acclaim too. i actually think ttpd is the one people over look but its cool that this can be subjective to swifties.

i would be curious to know your visual takes on songs when you do breakdowns in the future. mbobhft is one for which i have a very specific visual. every time i hear this song, i think about a Criminal Minds episode where a creeper child therapist keeps a toy for each child he's "helped" on a bookshelf in his office. i think it's because the song makes me think that anyone who treats someone they claim to love that way is a bit disturbed. While there are religious themes and allusions in the original poem, it also clearly designates the albatross as supernatural/sublime, which is in line with Taylor’s lyricism about women in society (Cassandra, IDSB, WAOLOM, Clara Bow, etc.): In mist or cloud, on mast or shroud, […] Whiles all the night, through fog-smoke white, Glimmered the white Moon-shine.' Thoughts on Love Story - personally, I would rank it much closer to the top. Obviously everyone’s ranking is personal and there really is no correct ranking. YESSS Emily on seeing visuals/landscapes when listening to music!!! I’ve looked into it for years, and it’s related to a really wild phenomenon called “synesthesia” where the typically separate areas of the brain that perceive the five senses are instead interconnected. Some peeps have it quite overtly where they’re literally tasting written words or seeing numbers as particular colors 🤯 But I’ve always seen visuals and been taken places when listening to songs. For example: State of Grace (Acoustic): walking alone in a peaceful, quiet woods in autumn; the rubies and ambers of the canopy dance gently overhead as you step over an exposed root system... looking for a nature trinket to collect or a subtle sign to point you toward an enchanted forest gathering. All is well. Midnight Rain: swirling purple and dark teal pool of glitter, like watching a molten eddy of obsidian, undulating with Jack’s bass and melting electronic production; then the high-pitched synth sounds stream in and I’m looking out onto a deep purple nebula twinkling in the interstellar gas 💜💫🌌 Would love to hear about other’s imagery in Tay songs 😃

Back to December- so I adore OG back to December, but I do not enjoy Taylor's version at all, and because of that, it's ranking drops 11. The conversation around Midnights is so interesting because I'm afraid fandoms just have a weird thing where people approach new things with apathy and hostility. I've always gone into every album with curiosity and ready to have love for it regardless of what my favorite album/s are. So I never had any issue with it, same with singles I don't view them as something different from the rest of the songs, I don't do radio so they don't overplay for me, which is probably why a song like Fortnight is one of my favorites in TTPD for example.

absolutely thought the same when we started going through the last few albums with TTPD knowledge in mind! the girls even talked about it in the refathoming of evermore video i think? especially because the whole song is about the "i ALMOST jump in" - as in there's no relationship with that person ... so it doesn't sound like a Joe song
