We heard you besties (oh, did we hear you!) and this is our reaction to the last 20 minutes of the podcast that glitched on YouTube last week! Now before you comment: yes, we have now seen every second of this podcast (including the part at the very end), and no, that doesn't necessarily mean that every second of it made it to the edit. We hope you enjoy what we have given you ❤️‍🔥🫶🏼

Also... if you saw a 1989 related video a few hours ago, no you didn't 😂 (this video is due to go up next week, so we are sorry if you already saw it! There has been a bit of video reshuffling that hasn't gone super smoothly since Taylor moved!)

Okay, so doing my assigned homework and reading an Elizabeth Taylor biography…and the biographer talks about a time when Elizabeth had a photoshoot done for a project and as always, she required them to give her photo approval before publishing. She went through the stack and went to her dressing table and cut everything she didn’t like into pieces. The biographer related this to Elizabeth’s tight control of her public image. And throughout the biography she makes the point that Elizabeth saw her public persona as a separate thing from her personal life. Commodity vs real person. Anyway…the album covers having fractured photos…could be mirrors…could be cut up…and the comparisons between Elizabeth Taylor’s relationship with fame and what we’ve been watching with Taylor…feels like good info to have going into this album

She has said that she enjoys acting more than music. I agree that without Benny Blanco, Selena wouldn't have made her new album. It was Benny who got her back into music and was a huge part on the songwriting and producing.

Ladies, have u fathomed some of the connections being made between TS12 to Midnights? (Like the Anti-Hero & Bejeweled music videos in particular). I’d love to hear any thoughts u have on that! The purple coloring on the TS12 variant reminded me of the moment when giant Taylor gets shot by the arrow and bleeds glittery purple in the Anti-Hero MV. I didn’t understand what that scene meant during Midnights era, but now with TS12 coming, I’m wondering if the purple coloring is a metaphor for the Showgirl within her. Jason and Kylie brought the girls to the Rhode Island house for a party. It was the same party that Gigi and Bradley brought their kids as well I believe. The press took all sorts of pics of the families on the balconies. And Finnley is a girl. Jason has 4 daughters and three of them are adorable carbon copies of Jason. Ellie, the second oldest, looks so much like Travis it’s not funny. The Kelce eyebrows are already in full effect on his 3 oldest.

I love you guys so much but I have to say it hurts a little to hear you talk about Selena forgetting the podcast hosts name like taylor is so much better for remembering names. To be fair one of the main symptoms of Lupus is brain fog so I don't think it's super fair to bring up her forgetting the name of the podcast host when things like that could be related to her disease. Criticism of the art is fair but things like that give me bad vibes. We should be more mindful of things like that overall.

I agree! Comparing successful women always makes me a bit uncomfortable because it feels so backwards and inherently not feminist. In the words of Taylor herself, we don’t need to “compare all the girls who are killing it”. I’ve been super aware of all the women in the music industry who we compare to Taylor and it makes me sad because yes Taylor is so special because she is so talented and hard working and intelligent, but that doesn’t take away from any of the other female artists that I love. For example, Olivia Rodrigo is absolutely killing it lately but she is constantly compared to Taylor. No wonder she really separated herself from Taylor. I was actually an Olivia fan and your SOUR reaction got me into Taylor when I found more of your content, so it makes me upset when we compare my two favourite artists. Same goes for Selena, who is a super talented actress and her music is great even if it’s not everyone’s thing. I love the honesty of your videos! We are all allowed to have an opinion and I don't understand the pressure of people demanding for more content of you or expecting you guys to say whatever they want to hear and not get hurt. I think about the same thing when you were talking about Selena Gomez not particularly her because I am not a fan and haven't heard her album at all but of other pop song. You listen to some and think really? Is this the best they can do? Lyrics wise, sound wise because when you have been listening to Taylor for so long nothing compares. I don’t think they “skipped over” those things, they just cut them out of the reaction. Maybe because they didn’t have much commentary on it or their reaction wouldn’t be considered entertaining. Also if you find their reactions horrific I really don’t think this is the place for you. It’s a bit of a vibe killer when someone is being ungrateful despite Bon and Em working extremely hard to cater to all demands as well as come up with interesting content ideas, plus dealing with rude comments like yours. They are humans first, content creators second!

i can usually get behind and understand your critique of other artists but your comments about selena and mediocrity and not understanding why she is as famous as she is is a little tone deaf. selena herself has said she’s not the greatest singer and music is not what she is most known for. it’s her connection with childhood nostalgia and her make up brand, and her past relationships have had just as if not more scrutiny than taylor in the public eye. being taylor’s friend is also definitely a factor. but i just feel to downplay selena’s own success purely because you’re not a fan of her ( recent music ) can be misconstrued and off putting. i’m not a huge fan of selena myself, i do like her because of wizards and some of her earlier music. and taylor is on a whole other level when it comes to music and that industry. but to say she’s mediocre in comparison is disappointing. taylor’s whole life is music. to critique selena as harshly as you did because hers isn’t is wild. i’m so sorry but that wasn’t necessary to the conversation. i love your videos and enjoy your content. this part just felt off.

Let me break this down for you in simple terms, since you seem incapable of understanding any other way. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks that the comments about Selena being famous because of „nothing“ are a bit too much. It‘s true, you can rightfully critique her current music and her album with Benny because it was not good. Personally, I don’t think her earlier music is bad, but I know opinions can differ on that, too, and that is fine ☺️ Still, I think she‘s so much more than that. At the moment, she’s mainly an actress, and she herself said that she preferred acting to music. Also - rare beauty? It’s worth over 2 billion dollars, and SHE made that. To pit her against Taylor like that doesn’t seem fair to me because, in terms of music and artistry, Taylor is always going to sweep. They’re different and they’re doing different things, which is OK! And we know how good a friend Selena has been to Taylor. The convo about variants was interesting, i kinda agree that multiple covers lessen the original one. Fans were excited about the rerecordings covers because the originals were unique and emblematic of the eras. I don't mind having more pictures but i'm still more interested about the one she chosed (even if it's not my fav) it has a story behind it. I like when a cover makes you questioned things like the it's frightening cover, i'm curious about this one, why it's frightening? why are you leaping over the seats? Other pictures she looks gorgeous but i don't really see a story except i'm hot (love the pink one ). I see them more as extra pictures ykwim. And about the variants we know Taylor will always receive more flack than others, Chappell sold multiple vinyls for a single and no one moved. But i will say that maybe a countdown and having tech giants (google, apple Etc) premiering the news of your variant wasn't the best idea 😂

I so agree with you! I think we all need to remember/realise the difference between things they will so *obviously* react to in time, and things we genuinely need to bring to their attention. Like for example, lots of people in the suggestions chat are mentioning Audrey Hobert at the minute, and because the girls have never reacted to her they probably need multiple requests so they know there is a demand. BUT anything Taylor related (i.e. 20 extra minutes of Taylor interview content!!) they obviously do not need told multiple times to react to that. Bonny especially (who’s been a YouTuber for like a decade now, long before Chats & Reacts) has been quite vocal about having a very specific editing style and taking great pride in editing and having the videos be just right. For sure! I actually rewatched all of Wizards of Waverly Place as an adult (literally like last year lol) and I really think it holds up as fantastic acting despite it being for kids. She is so funny, and really reminds me of iconic female comedic actors, most prominently Jennifer Aniston. Also something I think she has in common with Taylor is the way other famous people talk about her - other actors etc. comment on her kindness, genuineness and humour regularly. People really respect her character I feel. I really love Selena, can often take or leave her music but I understand the hype for her beauty brand, acting and some of the music!

I typed this and realised it was so long so would just like to preface by saying it's 100% not hate, I loved the video and all the chats - just entering into the dialogue for anyone who is interested!! The more I'm thinking about the Taylor and Selena stuff, I'm realising they just have entirely different approaches to their careers. Taylor is so singular-minded (in an amazing way). It's all about the music. Yes she's been in advertisements back in the day, released perfumes, had cameos in the odd film etc. but it always comes back to the music. Obviously this could change if the film thing happens but right now, that is the case. Selena, on the other hand, has dabbled in so many different things in big ways - tv, film, beauty, music. I think it is natural that when someone has their foot in so many doors, some things will be out of this world amazing and the success will reflect that (hello rare beauty, wizards) and others a bit more meh (in my opinion, a lot of her music, but not all of it!). For Selena, I don't think it's the music that has given her the level of fame she has, it's just part of the wider story of her career. She's nostalgic for a lot of people to the same level as Taylor but for different reasons (the Disney stuff, not so much the music) and so holds a special place in many peoples' hearts!! I think comparing Selena and Taylor in terms of music is kinda similar to comparing them in terms of acting (which, in my opinion, would then be a conversation about Selena killing it and being on a different level). Music just isn't the main thing for Selena! It's also my perception that she has a very complicated relationship with music, for example she thinks it's not for her but because of previous successes gets convinced to go back into it from time to time, and sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't.

Yes definitely! I love Em and Bonny and I would never come at them (or anyone really) for having a different opinion than I do ☺️ And I agree with you! For Selena, music was never the main focus and more something she did “for fun” but less to enhance her career imo. She’s got her acting, her brand, and supports quite a lot of good causes with it. (I also rewatch Wizards on a regular basis haha and Only Murders is so good too). Taylor, on the other hand, really lives for the music and is building a world around it with her fans. Ladies, I don't think the angle you're taking of Selena is fair. I love you, but again, it's unfair. First, why don't all the artists with a lot of co-writers receive this same criticism? And even if you did, know that I disagree. Julie Michaels is an excellent songwriter, and what she does best, and what she's said she enjoys in several interviews, is writing for other artists. Of course, songwriting and artists who write their own songs will always get a bonus point from me, but I don't think this should become a rule. When Britney Spears, the "princess of pop", for a reason, can't escape her music and plays Bad Liar at your wedding, it's because you know you've done something. Tate has often named Selena as her inspiration, so even if you don't understand, she has her value. And it makes me sick to see you comparing Taylor and Selena as something derogatory. Just the other day, she spoke highly of Taylor discography to Benny (HER HUSBAND), saying that each of her songs is timeless, in the sweetest and most honest way possible. Of all Taylor's friends, Selena is always the one who stays. And just to wrap things up, it's okay not to understand an artist: I myself don't understand why Miley Cyrus is one. Love this respectful continuation of the discussion. I completely agree with all of your points here! Selena's acting has moved and entertained me for SO many years. She's Incredibly talented and I think their friendship is so strong because they have their different lanes and strengths. Genuine female friendship is about celebrating and supporting your similarities and equally your differences! Selena is the first one to say she's not extremely confident with her music and views it as a side passion compared to acting. Which is absolutely okay! At no point did I say the girls can't criticize her. What I criticized was the fact that their criticism wasn't fair. Where's the basis, the clear objective, and the argument for why Selena isn't valuable? It's entirely personal. And I love the girls and have been following them here since 2023. They can and do make mistakes (I mention the criticism of Chapel Roan, which was off the charts). Again, I'm not saying they don't have the right to dislike or criticize. The only thing I'll say about all the Selena shade in the video is that I agree on the aspect of Selena needing a team or other people around to drive her versus Taylor generally being her own leader of ideas and creative output. However, I'm not (and I don't think Taylor is) a fan of blatantly comparing Selena and Taylor as artists and who's worthy of more fan adoration. Selena's struggled through some serious health issues in the last decade, none of which Taylor has had to deal with. It's easy to say this perfectly healthy person has better drive and committed artistry than another person who's been through a literal kidney transplant.

I say this with so much love for both of you, but the Selena conversation was very uncomfortable. Selena is an objectively very successful businesswoman; she's been working in the industry much longer than Taylor has and has had serious mental struggles with fame. Despite this much for many of the same reasons I love Taylor Swift, Selena has also always shown kindness and empathy in the face of hardship. Her music is very much pop, and yes, it does not have the depth Taylor does, but that's not her goal. I think in her latest album, in particular, it was a clear passion project. Selena has also worked on various projects as a producer, including only murders in the Building, which is very highly acclaimed. I think no artist rn is comparable to Taylor Swift, but that does not mean it diminishes her success as a Hollywood icon. I'm sure you both had no ill intentions with that conversation, but it hurt to hear!

I don't understand how you can comment with such authority about not understanding how she has the same level of fame and calling her work mediocre. Especially while implying she doesn't have the same level of drive as Taylor. Such a wild take. Selena has been in the industry longer than Taylor (since a literal child). Comparing their music is one thing...you instead are comparing the women. It seems rooted in internalized misogyny which is why I am taken aback a bit. You dismissing how she rose to fame is shocking. Her body of work is more varied than Taylor's. She's an actress first. Both of these women are as successful and famous as they are because of their own drives, but mostly because of the teams that have supported them and helped them navigate this exploitative industry. In that sense Taylor is luckier, she had parents who were well educated and financially stable. Selena had to support her family at 10. I'm not a huge fan of her either. i said nothing about anyone here who has a differing opinon than theirs. and i didn't say i fully agreed with their take on selena. i'm sure that they will read comments and understand how they made some people feel and if there is something to be learned, they will be open to listening. my point is, the pattern here is that anytime they say anything that people don't agree with, some people take that as an intentional personal attack. it happens with anything to do with olivia, chappell, and now selena. i'm trying to say that we know who the girls are, and they deserve grace and an opportunity to discuss people's feelings. it's much more constructive for someone to explain their viewpoint on why they would like the girls to see it in a different way than it is to go on about how harsh they are and how disappointed people are in them. we know bon and em are quality people and are certainly not going out of their way to try to offend people. we are here because we love them, and we are drowning in negativity in most online spaces outside of our patreon and discord family. i would love it if we could work through things like this without it turning into bashing them. i'm a teacher, and students are always more open to learn when you support them and offer guidance, instead of shaming them and telling them they are harsh and disappointing. bon and em mean a lot to me and i don't want people to respond to them here like people respond to trolls on the internet. i appreciate your response and i'm glad you love our chickens, too

Taylor probably understands Selena’s mental health and how she has coped with “the asylum” where they were raised. I think I get what you guys were trying to say about Selena although I did think it came off a little differently than you meant for it to. But I don’t think Taylor’s deep conversations are so one-dimensional. Selena’s drive is incredible, but she thrives more in the beauty and film space. Taylor also has an interest in film. I’m sure there is a lot the two of them relate to even though Selena’s music is much behind Taylor’s. If you haven’t seen Only Murders in the Building, I highly recommend it. I did not initially respond, but I came here to say, though I may be alone, I truly enjoyed Selena’s album (enough to support it with purchases). I think her documentary really highlights how Selena experienced the industry, and why making music was not necessarily something that she enjoyed doing. In addition, the health and mental health elements that Selena contends with are quite different to Taylor. I think this discussion landed in a way that you may not have intended. I imagined Taylor hearing it and being sad to hear it… I don’t think Taylor wants her close friends to think about how she is “THE Taylor Swift” or for them to be compared to her and found wanting. At the end of the day, it’s your content and your choice and I am a ride or die for C&R - a long time Patreon sub- and will remain so for as long as you offer the content.

Keep in mind, they're significantly measured with how they provide constructive criticism, and I think this was a pretty kind way to phrase it. I guess you can say with the whole Selena vs Taylor thing Music career/talent: Taylor>Selena Acting career/talent: Selena>Taylor And that fits with their passions. Taylor is more passionate about music while Selena is more passionate about acting. I think Selena has put less energy into her music since her lupus diagnosis since I feel like Selena is the type of person who would want to tour her music. Due to her lupus she doesn't have the energy to tour all over the country/world. I personally love Selena's though ever since Selena Gomez and the Scene. But her work in OMITB is amazing.

Pop Tarts are similar to what you may know as a hand held fruit pie? That’s what Taylor makes anyway. It’s a light pie crust with fruit filling and the edges are crimped like a pie crust. Here in the States there is a brand name “Pop Tarts” which are a very sweet commercially made version that sounds like what you’ve tasted. But yeah the fresh baked kind (I’ve made them) are light and delicious. 🙂

I had to stop watching Only Murders In The Building because her acting is so monotonous and one note and flat. She barely moves her mouth when she speaks and it drives me up the wall! It's hard to have this conversation because people are eager to take it as a dig against Taylor, but in my opinion, it's an insult to Taylor to misplace the credit and miss what actually makes her so talented. *my little soapbox about variants* : Album variants are actually a win-win for both fans and artists. On the business side, streaming pays practically nothing, so physical sales are one of the few ways artists can actually earn real support from their audience. Variants give us the choice to decide how much we want to contribute—whether that’s just grabbing one copy for the music or collecting multiple versions for the unique covers, booklets, or extras. From a fan perspective, collectors love having different editions because it makes the experience personal and fun, almost like trading cards or limited sneakers. It keeps physical music special in a digital world where most things are disposable. At the end of the day, variants don’t take anything away from casual listeners—the music is always the same—but they add excitement to those who take a special interest in music or even that specific artist in an industry that’s constantly evolving around a digital product. at the end of the day Taylor and other artist aren't releasing these variants so every fan will buy every variant they are releasing them to catch the attention of someone who maybe didn't buy the "original" because they didn't like the cover or the record color. collectors will buy them all. casual listeners will buy a single album and people who don't care about physical media will stream. *** added thought *** I also think the more funds an album took to create is a good indicator of why it could potentially have so many variants as well, to try a gain a profit from the work since streaming is not reliable (even though Taylor fought hard in favor of artist vs streaming platforms). since evermore was created during covid and basically in her and Aarons home it may have been one of her more least cost consuming albums that perhaps didn't need any variants? Okay, so I've rewatched the parts of the video about Selena a few times, really trying to understand the context. I honestly don't see a problem with them voicing their confusion over why Selena has the level of fame she does, and I really appreciate Bonny pointing out that this is a common statement made against Taylor. But a lot of their conversation seems based on the idea that Selena and Taylor are "at equal levels of fame," which I'm not sure I agree with. It felt like a straw man argument that just created a framework through which to unnecessarily put Selena down. Perhaps if Bon & Em followed Selena's work (particularly outside of music) as intensely as they have Taylor, maybe they'd have a better understanding as to why so many people love Selena? Reading through these comments, there seems to be two different assumptions being made: either they DO know everything Selena's been through and all of her accomplishments and still have the opinion that they don't get it (WHICH IS FINE because people are allowed to have opinions) OR they were misguidedly attributing too much of Selena's fame strictly to her musical output (which is a bit unfortunate, but still ultimately fine).

I agree with this take, with the only exception being when artists create variants with unique bonus tracks included on them. As someone who would prefer to only own one copy of an album, it requires me to make the decision of which songs I won't get to have on my vinyl. And I've ran into the problem before where the album art I preferred didn't have the bonus track I preferred. I sat through all the initial TTPD variants that each had a different bonus track without purchasing for this reason and basically became a conspiracy theorist, telling everyone I was going to wait for all 31 tracks to be put out on vinyl together. 😂 Luckily that actually happened a few months later! Though I'm still waiting on my Midnights vinyl with the 3 AM tracks. 😭

I'm also a Patreon member of Swiftologist/EOAS and I 10000% agree. Zach and Madeline are often a lot more bold with their takes and don't tiptoe around their true thoughts and their fanbase does not tear them apart for having controversial or different takes. It really makes me sad that Bonny & Em try VERY hard to be respectful and are regularly torn apart and are far less controversial in their opinions and how they express them. If people are going to be jerks they really need to go to a different platform.

At this point it's honestly incredibly annoying to see how often people have a problem with the way Emily and Bonny talk about other artists and it's giving gaslighting. Emily and Bonny try incredibly hard to be respectful and are some of the least controversial Taylor content creators out there. Anytime they give an opinion about someone who isn't Taylor, that is less than positive, they get torn apart and then they end up giving apologies. I'm honestly tired of it. If people don't like how they talk about other artists, they need to go to other platforms and spend their money elsewhere instead of constantly gaslighting them into thinking they were being rude when they weren't. This kind of behavior has been going on for months now. They are first and foremost Swift fans and that is going to be at the forefront of nearly all their content, if NOT all. The girls already tip toe around this kind of stuff enough already and I guess it's giving members this belief that they need to tell them they are wrong every time it rubs them the wrong way. I'm fans of other Taylor content creators and this community is some of the most judgmental communities I've seen in terms of how it treats the creators and it's GOT to stop.

Another thing I'll say is Bonny and Emily aren't official spokespeople on all things Popculture. They are not a news channel. It's a REACTING channel. Constantly criticizing the way they talk about things and the way they voice their opinions dilutes the whole point of a reaction channel/Patreon: to have authentic reactions and authentic opinions IN the moment. People on here are nitpicking their comments to hell, and they are giving textbook definitions of what true criticism is and how Bonny and Em don't follow that in their latest video. Hello? When did Emily and Bonny claim to be journalists who are operating at such high standards that every time they give criticism it has to be backed up by a textbook definition? Is this how we all treat our friends in normal conversations? When they give an opinion we don't jive with, we start nitpicking every word and saying "well actually the way you spoke that wasn't legitimate criticism and it is baseless and let me lecture you on how you are talking incorrectly"? When they mentioned Selena’s passion for music they were referencing articles/interviews where in many parts she said she didn’t enjoy writing the songs and it didn’t make her feel happy. Regardless I think bonny&rebecca were just trying to share how they feel. In the same way you might think it’s unnecessary, maybe they felt like it was necessary to mention. Taylor praised Selena’s album publically, which they personally didn’t feel like was deserving of such a praise based on what they heard.

I think for me it was more so, the act and why the even said what they said. It started from them saying they don’t trust Taylor when it comes to her saying she loves certain things, like Selena’s album. It felt like they were projecting their own feelings and opinions(which is fine!) onto Taylor when who knows she could’ve genuinely loved it and wanted to support her friend, and then it went on to saying that she’s famous for no reason and wouldn’t be anybody if they took her music career away from her. It just all felt very unnecessary imo with the way they said it. I’m not expecting them to apologize or anything, they clearly stand behind what they said since they posted it, and I’d rather them not try to backtrack since that would be disingenuous. I love these girls, my Swiftie experience is not complete without them and I’ll still support and watch going forward, I think this was just the first time that I ever felt a tiny bit of mean girl energy on this certain topic. And I just personally don’t like it when people put down certain women to lift up Taylor because yeah Selena and Taylor are on completely different playing fields but they’re thriving in their own lanes.

FYI I don’t mind anyone’s opinion & I’m a Selena fan so I’ll admit I’m a little biased 😅 but I don’t love when people knock her music, because for me it’s nostalgic and I genuinely love her voice. I do agree you can’t compare Selena and Taylor when it comes to music — and honestly you can’t really compare anyone to Taylor, she’s the GOAT! 🐐 That said, the only thing I’d disagree with is the part about not understanding Selena’s fame or saying she just relies on connections. I also HATE the idea that Taylor is Easter egging that she's lying to our faces. She said, so directly, that there are no more songs on this album (though I am still hoping there will be a 13th track in the form of a documentary). You look ridiculous And you have no idea Buried down deep and out of your reach, the secret we all vowed to keep it, from you, In sweetness… I’m one of those weirdos who thinks the song Robin is partially directed towards her fans, but I also completely respect that y’all don’t like the “Taylor swift is lying to us” idea. That makes it seem like she’s doing something intentionally malicious. We should believe her when she says she’s not gonna do a double drop! What I think is that because Taylor is a public figure, she probably thinks a lot about maintaining a non toxic, non invasive relationship with her fans. Taylor writing letters to Emily and Bonny proves that she cares about preserving a strong relationship with her fans, and is willing to make connections with the fans she believes are kind and genuine like y’all are! But Taylor uses fishbowl imagery in her music videos way too often for me not to wonder if she’s often impacted by feeling like her life is up for constant scrutiny and commentary, especially from fans who don’t respect her boundaries! For me this ties to the anti hero music video, the funeral scene where the different siblings are arguing; the way Taylor’s fanbase often argues about what messages the imagery and symbolism she invokes in her art are conveying. And with showgirl Taylor in the anti hero MV coming over and being toxic af to poet Taylor, it reads to me like Taylor could be implying that she feels like the puppet-master of her own public persona. Pinocchio vibes. Strings tied to levers, slowed down clocks tethered, all this SHOWMANSHIP To keep it, for you, In sweetness…. She IS driving this ship, and it must be hard for her not to feel like she might disappoint us (I see right through me, who could stay, etc), even though we all know that her true fans WILL stay. Who knows, maybe I’m totally wrong about everything! There are plenty of people saying they think Wood is gonna be abt dick, and that would be cool too. I love analyzing Taylor’s work for the literary body of work that it is, but I also adore her glitter gel pen game. Since Taylor’s work ties into her personal life so heavily, sometimes we as fans can be completely wrong! As Bonny said, Taylor is driving the ship at the end of the day, and it’s good for her to have boundaries with us, i.e., “I don’t leave Easter eggs abt my personal life.” Great video as always girls, I hope you don’t ever see my long crazy comments as criticism towards yall, I just enjoy having a place to spew all my Taylor thoughts HAHA!

I want to add to the Selena conversation. I LOVE Selena Gomez, as a human and as an actress. I like a handful of her songs as well, but can definitely agree that she and Taylor are not in the same bracket when it comes to that, and frankly I think Selena would agree with that as well. Selena's best songs I think also came from her heartbreak/toxic relationship (unfortunately, men are awful) but I also have to wonder if the music thing came about because she was a Disney kid, you know? Most of their contracts around that time involved acting and singing careers. I wonder if she even really wanted to become a singer? I know she said she did in interviews and stuff while she was on Disney, but like was that true? Or the Disney machine?

Totally get where you guys were coming from with the Selena stuff, but I do think, regardless of her music and acting, which is perfectly fine, she seems like an incredible friend to Taylor, and that's what matters most. I don't think she puts pressure on being in a room with THE Taylor Swift, cause I think she just sees her as her best friend, and I don't think Selena sees herself as a musician at all. And that's not a bad thing. She does things that are fun/ low effort, and it works for her. Taylor has a built-in passion, and that's beautiful, but not everyone needs that to be happy, and that's okay. The issue seems to be more with society's love of Selena and hatred for Taylor than Selena herself.

i just wanted to gently let you know something regarding selena not remembering someone's name: as we know, selena has a pretty severe case of lupus and as someone with a much less severe case, let me tell you that the brain fog can get pretty bad sometimes. sometimes you just cannot retain incidental information or things get scrambled, learning things can be harder, memory and recall get affected. idk if that's what happened but it seems pretty likely it me. i'm not saying this to call you guys out or anything, most people don't know much about lupus at all so i just wanted to take the opportunity to educate a little bit

I love you guys but have to say I don’t agree with your take on comparing Selena and Taylor. I’ve always been been a Selena girlie at heart, growing up watching all her shows and movies - she definitely raised a whole generation of us. Since folklore, I’ve discovered Taylor’s music and absolutely fallen in love with all of it. I’ve never really thought to compare the two and I don’t think many people do because they’re just so different. Selenas always been more of an actress yet she’s had some huge hits and real pop culture moments. She was the IT girl for years, with an effortless charm and authenticity that defined a whole era. Taylor on the other hand is deeply dedicated and creative with songwriting being her main art form. They’ve both had such different journeys, personally don’t think they can be compared at all really. I respect your opinions though ofcourse 🫶🏼

Did you not see what those cats mean to her from her interviews and the way she talks about them and cats in general? Even the way she is reacting to Jason's claim here! Some things are so obvious without them being spelled out, if someone eats an apple constantly and repeat getting apples for themselves, speaks fondly of them, would it then be said "I don't know, they never said I love apples !!! " even that part wouldn't be accurate, because you don't know everything she says.
