In this tutorial I'll show you how to draw a face in 3/4 view using a loose ink and watercolor sketching technique.

Please download the references and templates below so you can sketch along with me!

Thanks for voting for the references. I made templates for the first two most voted photos. Print the templates off if you'd like to sketch next to them or use a thin piece of paper to sketch on top. Also please feel free to use pencil to sketch out the construction 😊.

I appreciate you all and as always please send me an email or message on Patreon me if you have any questions!

Thank You, Scottie 😃🤩👏!

Thank you. Interesting how you’re adding more detailed eyes.

Is it true that the ear is always the length of the nose?

David Hornor

Thanks again, Scottie! Looking forward to trying these.

The 3/4 view seemed to get easier with each attempt. The eye farthest from the viewer seems to be the hardest thing to get right. It is a littler hard on older people to decide how many facial lines to draw in. Is it better to just go easy on those?

If possible, can I ask if you could mention during a video which colours you are mixing as you mix them, so it’s easier to follow along. I’m able to figure out most of your combinations but not always.

So far I’ve drawn the man with beard which turned out really well. I still find the dot that represents the position of the chin a bit tricky to get right.
