Hi everyone! I hope your week is going well and a big welcome to all our new Patreon members!

TUTORIAL FOR THIS WEEK: Portraits - Front View

We are going back to portraits this week and finishing off our portrait mini series with the front view. We have already done the side view as well as the 3/4 view which you can find linked below.

I actually find the front view the most challenging to sketch. The silhouette of the head tends not to be as interesting in front view as a side on view. But after searching images for a while I found these two references where the hair adds a nice silhouette and some areas of tonal contrast to the face (Same serious look and hair! 😂).

Please let me know which one you'd prefer to sketch in the poll and anything you'd like me to focus on for this tutorial. Other recent tutorials here:

To me both are similar so either one will be good. I love sketching portraits Scottie, your previous ones have been fun 😊

Mary L Doty

I can see interest in both. She has rather interesting coloring esp under the eyes for a young person. He has rather heavy drooping upper lids to his eyes. I really enjoy all the portrait studies and wonder if you can cover school age children at sometime? I realize that the exact proportions must change at least until they reach the mid teen years. I would think by than they have adult proportions? Figural as well as portrait.

The first reference looks more challenging
