Perfect timing Scottie - this is the area I wanted to focus on starting this weekend so thanks for putting all the parts together in one place. Looks like a great ‘course’ - can’t wait to get started. Many thanks Bernie

Laurisa Coffee

Such a great intro. It summarizes a lot of the smaller lessons in each of the individual tutorials and lays them out all at once. Great fundamentals class!

Mary L Doty

Lots of really good information to start sketching. Learning to embrace the loose lines is mostly what I have trouble doing. Thank you so much for information in this video.

Chrissy

Thank you it was very enjoyable. C.L.

Jennifer

Thanks Scottie. I followed along and found my sketching getting much looser.

Melissa Oltman

Absolutely jam packed with info - in a good way!! I followed along and actually learned some important tips. Thanks!

David

Many thanks for these tutorials. Extremely helpful! It's a bit of a shock that I'm learning to draw at my age (72), but my wife can mostly guess what I'm drawing now, even if the dog does look more like a pig. ;-)

Sharie Bonin

This was a great tutorial! Very helpful! Thankyou so much!😇

Hi Scotty- Your lectures are real eyeopeners. I have been doing a lot of portraits so far, but actually it became a bit boring. Now I can journalise my daily impressions and I have a lot of fun- though the risk is of getting addicted. Thank your for your excellent lessons.

Petra

Thanks Scottie, so much new information, my head is spinning and now I`m looking forward to sketching the reference photos.

Annika

Really great clear explanation of perspective! Of course when I followed along what was clear when you were explaining become pretty muddled on the page lol. In my last comment, I explained that I didn’t have the ‘artist’ eye and in this case I seem to be missing the ‘mathematical’ eye, because I didn’t see the angles as obvious in many parts of the second house, for example on the second house the awning looked the same size and angle on both sides. But even though I obviously need a lot more work on perspective, your explanation of it, especially with reference to how it changes depending on where the horizon line is was extremely helpful. Again, the answer is practice!

maartje

Gosh... it isn't the perspective that is throwing me off, but the drawing in one go. I am so used to clean lines... my work now comes out like that of a five year old (which has its own charm).... it's hard to fight the urge to do clean lines, or to go back over them ... oh boy

Pam Whitty

That was fantastic ... really helped me better understand 2 point , especially! Thank you.

After working through your Urban Sketching fundamental yesterday, I went out today and gave it a try. No pencil! Thanks so much Scottie!

Debra

Perspectives have been frustrating for me. I just started learning how to sketch for about a month and took other classes on it, but this practice really helped. I love the dot technique.

Hi Scottie this tutorial was amazing ad appreciate the details and thoughts put into your videos. I do have a question. I have 12 colour set of the same brand of watercolour as yours. So the permanent rose and Paynes gray are not part of the set. Do you have any colour combinations that might bring me close to Paynes gray? I am also trying to figure out what colour is close to Permanent rose, I do have the Rosa Gallery (botanical) watercolour set, not sure if you have tried it and might know of a possible substitute. Thank you

Marie

Everything was fine. Enjoyed the way the material was presented.

Katie Jo

I enjoyed the tutorial but it was a bit jarring for me going back and forth between the shop front and the house. For me it would've worked better to have completed the shop front and then gone on to the house.

Dave Tyrer

Scottie, can the videos be watched on YouTube? I watch on a small TV in my art space, but the videos from your Patreon pages don't work too well. YouTube videos work perfectly.

Lynnie Broos

Working my way through fundamentals and loved this one. Not too much at all. Thank you!

Elyse Jokinen

Making my way through! Such a wonderful teacher and detailed videos! Thank you for all that you do!

Steve

Hi Scottie. Really enjoying your Patreon site and I I so look forward to learning sketching as I love the sketching style of drawing , I have always had a mental block at drawing ( told in primary school that I was a bad artist and it stuck with me in my mind…lol. …I guess) I like the stress relief and freedom of the mind that comes when you immerse in sketching. I am learning lots from your fundamentals and hope to gain skills so I am no longer a “bad artist “ , 40 plus years later. Thanks again for the lessons and BTW a few of the reference shots are buildings in a city close to me in Newfoundland I have noticed (heritage shop photo I think). Have you been to NFLD? Hope to share some sketch’s with you when I get brave enough to get out and sketch some of the wonderful scenes in this great province. Really looking forward to learning how to sketch boats and wharf / water scenes. Thanks again for your virtual guidance through Patreon.

Keri Monte

I agree 1000% about what you said when it comes to the front view being 1 point perspective but the side buildings aren't. I said the exact same thing the other day, because I came to the conclusion that if I was facing a hill with houses going up, then it couldn't still be 1 point if a hill on the right had houses going up. I would have to turn my head to see them properly and that would be a whole new view point. It finally made sense to me like that. Not sure if I explained it well. I do understand the theory of perspective, but it is getting the angles somewhat correct so things on the left and right don't look like they are laying down on the paper that has had me discombobulated for weeks despite the ridiculous amount of hours I have put in to figuring it out. I begin this journey with you with great hope, because I think you may be the one who can help me finally crack the code that my brain is having trouble reconciling. Oh what a glorious day that will be. my 1 point sketches have already changed dramatically for the good with the tutorials I've completed so far. Thank you!

Tina

As an absolute beginner with drawing or sketching (let alone watercolor) this was extremely helpful, thanks a lot! You really are a wonderful teacher. I`m so glad I found my way here.

This tutorial is wonderful! Thank you so much! I have a complicated question about perspective, that is: how do you draw beams arranged radially? I was trying to do it recently (why do I choose so much difficult subjects? 🤦‍♀️) but it got me crazy! Nevertheless, I'd like to "have these rules in the back of my mind", as you say. At least I know what's going on!

Jeff Parker

I find myself smiling every time I watch one of your videos. Your style and approach are very appealing thanks so much for doing what you do!

Mai.O

Hi,Scottie! May I ask something? I’m unable to locate the four Fundamental videos you introduced at the start. Could you please tell me where they are?

Debbie Golding

Hi Scottie! I've been enjoying your tutorials. I can't seem to post copies of what I've done, but it is exactly the type of art I've been wanting to do. Gives me a chance to sketch and use watercolors. I definitely need work with shadows and so this is really fun to follow. Thanks!
