great depression hit in 1929, obliterated most countries' economies, in the UK whole towns were basically unemployed like Jarrow (who famously marched over 200 miles with a petition to London) and quality of life decreased significantly, France and especially Germany were also very badly hit in Europe. Interestingly, the Soviet Union was one of the least effected countries, as they weren't a part of the capitalist global economic system.

Sulam0n

Yeah they casted him well😂 He is John's real brother in real life

DnWs

As someone has already mentioned, Michael and John's actors are brothers in real life

Oh boy, another Arthur episode that hits too hard 😅 man, this show is brutal. But so good. So, obviously I don't have the post-war flavor of PTSD, but I have the same kind of CPTSD that develops from living in a war zone, because that is what my household has been like since I was in 7th grade (I'm 32) so I can only speak from my experience but generally, the only time your PTSD gets worse like this is either a) some new trauma is introduced that exacerbates the situation (I would argue that there's been plenty from season 1 to do this) and b) like in my case, when you suppress yourself and your trauma too hard, there will be a point where you come to a grinding halt or slam face first into a proverbial brick wall. My therapist described it as that there's 2 sources of trauma. Big T Traumas that are one and done experiences that instantly leave you with a mental scar, or there is little T traumas that, you know, you experience once and you're like "well that sucked" twice your like "that was bad but I handled it before just fine" then by the 3rd, 4th, 5th times, it wears you down and down until your brain says "ok, this is bad. Let's stop to heal from this. It's now on our danger list" when you combine long-term PTSD from multiple big T traumas, suppress them, then experience many little T traumas over time, it's like a coke bottle being shaken up. Eventually, it will pop and explode until its empty again, and for some people, that can be days, and others, that can be years of trying to pretend like you aren't a ticking time bomb of self-harm or harm to others. Eventually, your brain with MAKE you deal with the things you want to avoid, whether you like it or not, and if it needs to send you spiraling into madness to get your attention, it will. In my personal experience, I had gone to counseling, gotten out, gone to university and had a decent job. I was going up and up but my brain was being slow cooked by pressure, so when covid hit and I experienced many little T's as a essential worker, then the pressure of classes and maintaining my perfect grades, plus my mom going off the deep-end being left alone with my abusive father, something snapped and I couldn't even do the most basic functions anymore. In 1 yr, I fell apart, failed out of university, lost my partner of 10 yrs, had to move back home, could no longer work, fell deeply into addiction and stopped moving for 3 years. Literally, I laid in bed for 3 years straight. 😅 sooo yeh. PTSD can hit you over and over again and even explode when you think you are in a good place and that's why it's such a beast to try and treat. It's your nervous system's survival mechanism you have to override, and that's why psychology considers PTSD as a form of brain damage. You experience hallucinations, memory loss, mood swings, personality changes, ect. And the symptoms can be either so small you don't even notice it's happening until someone asks you "hey, what you been up to?" And you can't even answer for that day because you genuinely don't even remember getting in your car at all to arrive there, or you hear something and go "you say something?" And notice you do it more than usual. Or, the symptoms can be horrible and constant and every sound, every move makes you edgy, and you find yourself having to ask your DM at D&D to save your special seat in the corner close to an exit with the whole room and door in your view because you'll have to call in sick if someone takes that seat because you don't feel safe with anyone behind you or out of sight.. (had to do this today, which is why it's so specific lol) so that's a bit about the PTSD experience. CPTSD is a whole other beast, but it's basically a much more severe, chaotic, tricky type of PTSD that never truly goes away and causes many other issues, making it a high risk diagnosis for self-harm behaviors, and also high risk for very bad episodes that are sudden and unexpected. Usually the person feels like they aren't in control of their own body or experience out of body experiences/dissociate. I'm only one person though and stuff I learned. As complex as this disorder is, I recommend reading up on it and watching videos on it to see all the ways that it presents itself, just in case you feel you might have unprocessed trauma that impacts your life in some way, or you know or wish to deal properly with someone with PTSD episodes (not all are crazy and violent, but tell you what; if someone like me were having a meltdown in a store because something triggered them, do NOT suggest they calm down. That never helps anyone and only stresses us out more. Also more attention = more freak out/shame. Take them somewhere where they can have some privacy, get them to box breathe with their head down between their knees. Do not call an ambulance unless they hurt themselves or someone else or are at risk to. But ya, research) Thank you for coming to my Tedx talk 😅 lol dunno why I bother telling myself my comment isn't gonna be a novel.. it always ends up too long, but then I've dedicated several minutes to writing the damn things so I don't wanna erase it 😫

Ok now that I finished the ep.. I've kinda been unsure about Tommy until now but I really respected him in this episode. I hope it lasts, but damn does it feel like he's a pot fit to boil over with each added ingredient. 😅 Sooo I guess my theory was way off about him having to kill Pol's son lol I knew it was a reach but somehow convinced myself "I might be onto something here 🧐" nope. Not even close lol. These eps definitely feel like whole movies or even seasons, so packed and dense with drama and suspense. Ugh, so good! I really didn't think the show would grip me as hard as it has, but I find myself relating a lot to Tommy and Arthur (not exactly my proudest characters to relate to, but it's more like they remind me of my worst)

I read your comment, and from what I'm reading from online sources, it's my understanding that the main difference between C-PTSD and the PTSD. For example, PTSD may result from a single event such as a car accident, but C-PTSD results from trauma over months or years such as childhood abuse. It's probably important to make this distinction because the symptoms are different and it can be more effective to treat them as such. The interesting thing I learned about C-PTSD is that it's not an official disorder according to the DSM, and hopefully they'll continue researching this for the foreseeable future.

The actor that plays pollys son Michael, is actually brothers with the actor who plays John! That’s why he looks so much like a Shelby 😂 I can’t wait to see your reactions to Michael and how his character develops! My heart also breaks for Arthur this episode, from my understanding of watching peaky blinders twice (now three times with watching again with you guys!) and reading about the real Shelby brothers, Arthur struggled with PTSD, Depression and showed signs of being schizophrenic according to what I’ve read about the brothers. John also apparently had ADHD/ADD

Tommy would enjoy playing Umamusume

Ooh, yes. Thank you for picking that up! I also think that's an important note. ☺️ It does add some nuances if you are someone who is interested in the topic or if you're seeking information for yourself or a loved one to better understand how to approach the symptoms and such. And ya, it's treated as more of a subset of PTSD diagnostic criteria, similar to how under ADHD you have the subsets inattentive, hyperactive, or combination, which sadly does mean that it's not as widely understood and not often added to the diagnosis depending on who makes the diagnosis, which does appear to change the treatment plans and approaches to the symptoms depending on who you talk to, and you see situations like, for eg. doctors who are specialists in treating people with PTSD/CPTSD prescribing someone a certain treatment plan geared towards the CPTSD flavor freaking out new doctors who want to stop that plan and you have to basically argue your case to them 😩 it's always a pain. Especially surrounding sedative sleep medications or benzodiazapines.. but ya, I agree. I hope they keep studying and updating this brand of PTSD and hopefully either spread more awareness on it, or give it it's own section in the DSM to have doctors stop treating it like it's the same thing as your typical PTSD which can range from a smaller type trauma, to a life altering one. I definitely believe that the long term affects of being in dangerous situations your whole life or a large part of it really changes the way your brain functions. If PTSD is your brains way of protecting you from repeating a singular event happening again, CPTSD is an amalgamation of dangerous events which HAS to alter how you even function as a human, so why do we treat it the same way as a society and government? Me and my therapist like to complain about this too much lol but if it helps anyone, ART therapy mixed with narrative therapy has been really helpful in kinda reducing the weight of my symptoms, and is basically the agreed upon better treatment for CPTSD among specialists theraputically, if you wanna look into that, though it depends on each individual. At the very least, it's fascinating. There's a huge uprise in D&D as a tool for narrative therapy. It's awesome 😂

The GOAT has arrived!

Wes And Steph

Your stories always break me girl. I’m so sorry 😞

Chels

Oh noo~ 😅 I don't want you to feel sad or sorry about them, but thank you, I do appreciate it. I share them because I think it's another perspective on these characters that I dunno if many here have or wish to talk about, and I'm in a place that I feel comfortable sharing. Plus, if my stories help someone else in some way like encouraging them to seek help, or to not make the same mistakes, ect., that would make me feel like it's a little worth it, you know? But I'll try to balance in some happy I'm the future lol (especially because I watched your news update about the new baby before this one! Congrats 🥰 I will make an offering to Frigg for you that you get feeling better and have a good and safe birth. Basically my version of prayer for you)

Rostislav

It is funny that for the population of the USSR, its entire existence felt like one big crisis, including an economic one 🤣

Lyons

Bro I stopped watching for a month, and Wes didn't change a bit. As someone who's watched this show before, it's actually pathetic how obvious he's making it.. WES you have seen this show before. Steph hasn't.. please for the love of God just stop. Maybe most people don't care but I can name about 10 moments in this episode alone where you expose yourself. Its embarrassing. And im getting really fucking bored of it
