WHAT THE HELL JUST OUT OF NOWHERE DUDE HELL YEAH!

Tanmay

Yess! This show is so peak!!

Villenthessis

Oh nice! A Surprise Drop! You guys really know how to pick the best anime to watch!

RCG

I liked the first season and it's great timing with season 2 coming early next year.

Marko Genter

Btw Gabimaru's voice actor is the same as Stark from Frieren.

Yorutia

They clearly did their research and timed this perfectly, catching up with two episodes per week.

Yorutia

Love these unexpected "random" picks.

Aditya Chakrabarti

Gabimaru's mentality is like "I avoid killing because me killing displeases my wife. I kill because my death would displease her more."

Lucjusz Kusiński

Hanging is a fast way to die because if you do it right, you immediately lose consciousness.

Holy Arathi

Hell yeah!!! Hells paradise!!!!

halastair

What a timing for me! I just finished rewatching this anime just a week ago. I really liked it when I watched it for the first time about two years ago, but after rewatching it, I realised that for some reason I feel like it could have been so much better. I don't know why, but I feel like something is missing for it to be perfect. And it's not the plot and source material problem. Maybe it's the direction, animation or something else, but I can't put my finger on it. Still it's really enjoyable show and I am pumped to watch your reaction to it!

Barry

Great summary, I feel the same about it.

CD Elio

Wow never expected this but a welcome one lolol If I remember correctly this is one of the "dark shonen trio" along with Chainsawman and JJK. So u completed it Fun Fact: The author of Hell's Paradise is also a former assistant of Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsawman)

Lini Z

Omg yessss what a pleasant surprise

Holy Arathi

I thought I recognized that voice.

RCG

Yeah, probably - had the same thought (hence the double drops), but I'm never sure how much they keep up with new releases. Still waiting for the new Alice in Borderland season. :P

NO WAY HELLS PARADISE???

Chels

Well this was a pleasant surprise 🥰 thank you for blessing us this day, though it's a wee bit brutal for your guys' usual lol it's a little closer to old school 80s-90s anime that had no chill, as I'm sure you're already noticing. 😅 still, it's such a cool show with very interesting themes. Shinsenkyou is the land of the gods, kind of like Olympus, which is why they believe it has a physical destination on land. Typically, you cross some kind of "in-between" border, like the giant red tori gates, or in spirited away it was that little creek, bridges, ect. But how the dead cross over to the underworld (not shinsenkyou) it is via boat on a foggy river like is depicted in this show, which, that paired with the jungle paradise vibes is why they believe this island to be THE Shinsenykou of folklore 😊 also this show uses a lot of Japanese terms without translation, so going forward, if you don't understand something, feel free to mention it so people like myself don't end up over explaining things you already understand lol I will say that this takes place at the end of the war between the Shinobi and the Shogunate when the Shogunate ordered all the Shinobi to kill each other, so the main character is basically part of the few remaining Shinobi clans at a time that everyone hates them and looks down on them as savage demons, which I believe is why there is such an emphasis on the Bushido beliefs samurai have that all death should be beautiful and honorable vs the shinobi way of get the job done, no matter what means necessary. The show kind of examines the Japanese understanding of death, which as a very animistic culture, death is both horrific and beautiful, since it gives life a fleeting, fragile quality that makes you appreciate it more. I don't do it justice, but it's really important in Japanese folklore. The balance and dance between life and the afterlife. I also want to mention that because of the idea that shinobi are so close to death and basically harbingers of the afterlife in Japanese folklore, they are almost deified, but into demons in that they were believed to have supernatural abilities that include very resilient bodies. Like they could cheat death (likely because real shinobi are said to have eaten poison often in order to immunize themselves, or withstand torture because their training involved being tortured so they wouldn't succumb and spill secrets) hence why the main character is so hard to kill. He is supposed to just be an extremely talented shinobi that can tighten his muscles to the point of being indomitable. The folklore and history of Shinobi is the most convoluted but epic part of Japanese history 😆

Aki

What a great surprise

Chels

Yet throughout history, it is one of the most feared deaths because people didn't always understand that there has to be a certain speed of drop in order to sever the spinal chord for a quick death, so more often than not, it would fail, breaking or dislocating the neck and not the spinal chord, forcing the person to slowly suffocate to death 😅 if I had to choose between that and beheading, I'd rather go with beheading, which was considered the kinder death until people started wigging out about damaging bodies

Infinite Winds

What a pleasant surprise. You're gonna have such a busy winter season with the reactions when it comes to sequels

Drake Chuckle

The OP is too fire to not listen to, btw, if you are scared for spoilers just look away. But it's visually so good and sounds so good

Tanmay

The op spoils things really far ahead but you would need really good deductive skills to figure them out. They should either watch the op right at the start or just wait till the very end

Infinite Winds

Wes: We've never watched a show where the main character has a wife Loid: Am I a joke to you? Rudeus: Am I a double joke to you?

RCG

Haha, I had the same thought about Spy x Family but to be fair it’s just pretend… at least for now. :) And I’m kinda glad I didn’t even remember Rudeus... he has a whole other thing going on.

Rostislav

We definitely didn't see this coming 💀 PS. Glad, but still hoping for Made in Abyss

Marko Genter

they really shouldnt watch it cuz they dissect intros like its the fucking bible they should just wait until the last episode

Marko Genter

I cant say what it is either but its some sort of direction that makes the pacing kinda weird. I didnt notice it the first time so when people were saying it I didnt get it but I think I can see what they are talking about now. I dont think it ruins the show or anything its still great but yeah hopefully they fix that for season 2.

Rostislav

I don't remember in which culture, perhaps in Christianity, but if you somehow survived execution, you were free, the punishment had been carried out and you were saved by God. It was believed that if a person was not guilty, God would save them.

Rostislav

Actually, even now there are many professions where you have to kill people, and even those where it is spoken of with pride. For example, FPV pilots in the army see each of their victims up close (VR helmet) and can kill many targets in a day.

Omer Durrani

OMG WE DOING HELLS PARADISE?? LETS GOOOOO

Mia

omg what a surprise! i love hell's paradise and the manga is even better! y'all are in for a ride

Rostislav

I also forgot about Rudeus... but perhaps the reason is that he got married quite late in the anime, so many people still associate him with a child

Rostislav

Yes, everyone noticed this, and it's definitely not a problem with the animation, which is incredible. I think the problem lies in the logic of what's happening and the broken pace of the narrative.

Random

I believe that the shogun is doing this more as a power move, and if they do survive and come back with an elixir then its just a bonus. Since it is Edo era Japan, the shogun is probably trying to keep his vassal clans too weak to usurp him, but not to weak to protect the shogunate's area. If the Yamada clan is one of his subordinates and they are powerful, then this mission is perfect to reduce their numbers by a set amount. I would also guess that the Yamada elders know this as well, so they are probably using this as a way to clean house by getting rid of undesirables. Such as the woman or the redhead with only 1 eye. I bet that all of the people that Yamada sent were somehow problematic for the clan.

Chideraa Udegbulem

I think they mean a story that starts out with a character having an actual wife they love and not just gaining one through the story or faking it

Lucjusz Kusiński

It's not only about severing spinal chord. It's also about sudden lack of oxygen. Spinal chord is instadeath, but lack of oxygen makes you lose consciousness and suffocate in sleep.

RCG

It’s a short season and they seem to do double drops, so it’s not that long of a wait to watch it at the end… as long as they don’t forget.

Rostislav

I don't think the author thought about it that deeply...

The Anime Dude

@38:11 hey look, Hell’s Paradise Bakugo!

Random

He probably didn't, yet subconsciously the lore is there. Think of it this way, if someone told you they were writing a story about the american civil war, wouldn't you expect there to be an element there about the absolution of slavery? The time and setting of stories are important components of the story.

RCG

I can’t really remember anymore but I think at least this season the shogun doesn’t get much more screen time and from what we’ve seen so far he doesn’t seem that smart to me, more like a fool. So unless next season or later on we see more of him, it feels a bit far fetched, at least for now.

Micah Steinhoff

This is my first time watching Hell's Paradise, and I'm already liking the main characters. I can see the beginnings of their dynamic; She shows him that he can and should have emotions, and he shows her that she can't keep dwelling on her past.

Cat Huang

OMG i cant believe you guys are watching hell's paradise this is gonna be peak

Cronshaw

Gabimaru is the ultimate wife guy
