As to who are we rooting for... Root for Iskandar, King of Conquerors, the one true king.

Oscar Medina

Here is fact about mana. Mana from mages is called Od and it is actively produced when mages fire up their magic circuits. Spells and Noble phantasms that are greater than the mana a mage can produce will make up the difference by burning up the life of the mage. Servants are vastly more powerful than modern mages so their ability to replenish from their masters is limited therefore they don't use their NPs often.

Zen

Thanks for the early upload, great reaction as always! Next week's gonna be fire. Oh yeah, please don't forget to watch the OP and ED next time. Also, fun fact regarding Excalibur: it has 13 seals/restraints on it put by the Knights of The Round Table and can only be lifted if the conditions are met; the seals represented each of the Knights. So far we've only seen Arthur lifted some in the Fate/Grand Order. Personally, I think Arthur has the more powerful Excalibur as opposed to Artoria's because the former's default rank is EX (immeasurable), while the later is only at A++. Oh yeah, the seals are as follows: 1. Bediviere: The enemy must be more powerful than oneself. 2. Palamedes: The battle must be one-on-one. 3. Lancelot: The enemy must not be an elemental. 4. Mordred: The battle must be one against evil. 5. Galahad: The battle must not involve personal gain. 6. Gaheris: The battle must not be against Humanity. 7. Gareth: The battle must not be inhumane. 8. Agravain: The battle must be for truth . 9. Kay: The battle must be to live. 10. Unknown: One's comrades-in-arms must be courageous. 11. Unknown: The battle must not be against one pure of heart. 12: Unknown: The battle must be an honorable one. 13. Arthur: The battle must be to save the world. 13. Artoria: The battle must be to defend human order. Somehow, only Arthur and Artoria's part are different. Excalibur is said to be THE ultimate sword, forged by the Faes in the planet's inner seas, to fight against ANY external threat to the planet itself. So the one you've seen so far is not its full power. Fate is choke-full of sick stuff like this.

Ryne

No matter how much you might hate the Matou elder, it's not enough. Also, they did mention True Magic, so I figure I should explain a bit. The difference between True Magic and magecraft (the normal magic you see the masters use) is generally that science can theoretically accomplish whatever magecraft can, given enough time and resources. True Magic is in the realm of miracles that defies natural laws.

Anima

Well No Assassin but There are lancer Archer Raider Berserker caster atorias but They are Not in the animes

Temojikato

At some point they've gotta stop teaming up, guys x) Only one can win after all

Sum Ting Wong

I dont like kirei as a person, but love him as a character, normally, a character has depth that they choose to not show to us viewers (like kiritsugu), but for kirei, he is a interesting character, because he himself does not know what he wants, and why he wants.

Joshua Moore

Yes! Arthur based on his legends is a thing in fate.

pylonsf4

An example of true magic would be summoning the souls of ancient spirits to fight in a war for you :)

The Anime Dude

“I hope we don’t involve Rin & Sakura in this weird game Kiri is playing”. I mean if nothing else they lost both their parents in this war, especially Rin, so they were already affected, even if not directly.

Ethereal

- Diarmuid's end - Kariya's tragedy Welcome to Urobuchi's writing!

Infinite Winds

You can watch the OP after the next episode. So if you do double episodes again next week, you could watch it on the second of the two

Kronosok

So in fate, Magecraft (all the spells you saw in the show) and true Magic are two entirely different things. True Magic is like a super ability that on the level of a miracle, but there are only a handful of people who knows it. There are five true magics and almost nobody knows what those do, (also once you learn it, no one can learn it the same way). The whole holy grail war is an attempt to reach the third true magic (Maya and Iris mentioned it in the episode). Magecraft is something that is also can be achieved by normal means (using tools and science). As the civilisation progresses, Magecraft becomes weaker and dwindles (at this point it’s basically dying out, also the more people know the Magecraft, the weaker it gets)

Kronosok

Explaining this because the anime adaptations never explicitly explain the difference

Ethereal

Magecraft is replicable by science, be it now or in the (far) future. It is bound by the laws of physics. Given enough time, science can replicate or even exceed the magecraft. True Magic are phenomena that are impossible to achieve, even if humanity had infinite time and resources. True Magic comes from the Root (the source of all existence). They are basically miracles that ignore the laws of the universe. The Grail itself is a means to reach the Root and perform True Magic.

Azer S

To understand their exchange about the root: Imagine the universe as a concrete dome. Inside, things obey to the rule of the universe. Outside, there are no rules. You can't get out. But magic is an exception. Magics are like trees growing inside, while their root are outside the dome. The part of the magic tree that is inside, called witchcraft, can do crazy things...but they can't disobey the law of the universe. You can make time go faster and slower, but you can't travel in time. You can repair your body with worms, but you can't simply block enthropy. You can create artificial human and other cool stuff, but you'll have to use raw matter and energy for it. Inside the dome magic is a science like another, you can do cool stuff but no miracle. On the other hand, the part that is outside the dome, the true magic, doesn't obey to these law. Reaching the root mean being able to do magic that won't obey the logic of this universe. To be able to accomplish things that should be impossible. The Graal experience was basically a try to reach the root. You pull 7 servants out of history, and use them as combustible to push through your magic tree until you reach your root. Problem: There are as many root as there are tree and there are as many tree as there are school of magic. The graal would allow pushing to ONE school root. So it exploded in a war, and instead of using their servant as sacrifice, they used them first as soldiers. Also i won't spoil but the Matou elder wouldn't die from that. He's pretty strong, like stupidly.

Kindyh Bordat

OMG, that last episode disgusted me so much. How could you take pleasure in inflicting so much pain to someone. Not even physical, but at their deepest core. Kirei is such a evil mf for being raised by the church

Fabien

45:00 No actually, Excalibur requires a lot of mana too. Kiritsugu isn't the worst mage there is, so she can use it kinda regularly (but not a lot). But Saber would have been stronger if Tokiomi was her master for example. I'm unsure if she could use excalibur twice in a row tho, it's just theorical.

Fabien

His education actually repressed his deeply twisted nature. That's why he was so unhappy and couldn't accept his tendencies. But a happier Kirei, is bad news.

Fabien

If you know the whole story of Fate I have a question about something, I've played F/sn and read the zero novels, but I'm still unsure about something: (it's a SPOIL for everyone else do go away if you didn't play/read the originals) ######### Am I correct that the holy grail was never really a wish-granting device, but just the 3rd magic ? (which is miraculous by nature, but it's only one type of miracle, not something that grants wishes). We can see what it can do by the end of Heaven's Feel with Shirou soul being put in a new body. But then, was the grail essentially a lie by the 3 families to attract powerful mages for the ritual ? The supposed "proof" that the grail exists is the incarnation of servants, which is also a miracle I guess, but it's also something within the 3rd magic capabilities, so it proves nothing once you know that. So... you could never grant your wish ? It was all about remaking the lost 3rd magic ? #########

Bruh Alter

the third true magic makes you able to manipulate souls and is the grail the one capable to summon that magic

Fabien

You're not supposed to like Kirei (unless you're talking about finding the character interesting, he's quite particular). Zero as a story had a particular purpose, it's supposed to show you elements from another story you know beforehand, but it's too soon to talk about that.

Runhua Tang

Aoi said "You took Sakura away from me", because, in her opinion, if Kariya hadn't abandoned his duty as the successor of the Matou family, Sakura wouldn't need to be sent there to be in his place. In a way, Kariya thinks so too, and the guilt of "putting Sakura in this position because I ran away" is a large part of his motivation to fight the war. So remember that Kariya isn't just tortured by physical pain and desperation to save a loved one. He was also consumed by guilt. It's not suprising that he went insane.

CD Elio

Percival, Tristan and Gawain?

CD Elio

King Richard heart :D that's it that's the comment lol. You can watch the op and ed next episode it's ok on around episode 23 to start.

Zen

Yeah, but we still don't know which is which for sure. Gawain might be #10, Tristan #11, and Percival #12 IMO.

Kai

It's my first time watching this series as well. Kariya's story is so tragic. Every character in this show has very strong ideals and they're often competent enough to represent those ideals. It looks like Kariya is the only one who doesn't quite have the competency to achieve his goal, and so he gets manipulated and destroyed so often. His beliefs are honourable; I rooted for him too at the start but the authors are essentially showing us that having an honourable belief alone often isn't enough, and Kariya bit off more than he could chew there. It's tragic, but such good writing; The variety of stances is so entertaining.

banlungx001

umm , excalibur just use a lot of mana , the part where it get stronger/better with the desire to protect people doesn t exist , seriously again , which comment did you get this from?

banlungx001

in a way , lancer master , who is suppose to summon iskander , prepare well for this battle (aside from the personality issue) he have his wife who is a child from a mage family herself act as a mana supply (she s probably like have 5 times more mana production than waver) which mean , iskander can use ionia many more times , and he himself can probably picth in when necessary too , how ironic that diramud is very mana freindly because his NP required so little , this advantage of their end up amount to nothing.

rryutie

24:22 you're so sharp wes, what a read by you. you guys have the best reactions to this show istg.

rryutie

even tho it was mentioned in the anime, i kinda wish u would del comment so they dont read it cause it'll probably be a shock factor for them. especially cause its such a small detail compared to everything else going on, so i rly doubt they remember it.

Kronosok

Spoiler. The holy grail, from my understanding, is just a big battery. It can help achieve anything you want as long as you know how to do it. It’s just happened that for mages the biggest wish, in general, is to achieve the root and get a true magic. But otherwise you can use this energy for anything else.

Klinch

Rrutie is right.

Klinch

Yeah. Honestly , it took way longer that I was expecting. Lots of characters went insane for less.

DocGreen

Can't wait for these guys to react to the newest fate series after this. Also maybe garden of sinners as well and witch on the holy night whenever that releases. Fate really became top 3 anime for me. Right up their with mushoku Tensei and attack on Titan. Frieren heavenly delusion summertime rendering would all be top 10 for me

Vequoin

You guys should watch Fate Babylonia after you are done with all these. It does a great job at giving us the backstory of Gilgamesh , and you will be surprised by the Gilgamesh there. There is a single 1-2 episode anime that introduces the game story , other than that , you need nothing else really. Camelot is a great movie to watch too if you have time. Not many watch Babylonia but I like it a lot. The noble phantasms in those are epic even if the story is weaker.

Runhua Tang

There are a lot of nuance with Kariya's actions and motivations, which makes him more complex than just a "tragic hero". To understand his character, we can begin by asking: "Did Kariya really did everything for Aoi and Sakura? Or was it all for himself?" From the very beginning, Aoi never really asked Kariya to rescue Sakura. Sakura also never asked to be saved. Aoi, Sakura and Tokiomi are all people with drastically different values and priorities from Kariya, and even though we as audience can more easily relate to Kariya, we cannot deny the fact that Kariya is largely imposing his own will onto Aoi and Sakura. The second question we can ask is: "Did Kariya really love Aoi? Or is he simply in love with an imaginary Aoi in his own head?" All his impressions about Aoi during his blackout are painfully surface level, and despite how much Kariya claimed to care for Aoi, he actually never listened to what Aoi actually wants. Aoi has made it clear that she cares deeply about her husband, and she didn't want Kariya to fight/kill Tokiomi. Despite this, lashing out at Tokiomi is the first thing Kariya did during the war. I believe, like a lot of men experiencing unrequited love, Kariya is more concerned with what HE thinks Aoi SHOULD want, instead of actually listening to Aoi and giving her what she wants. Kariya's final crashout is a combination of justifiable reasons, like physical torment combined with intense stress, and less justifiable reasons, like his misplaced expectation and repressed disgruntlement. Here's a not take: Kariya is, in his core, an incel. Despite his very justifiable actions and motivations, deep down, he's using the women in his life to gratify his own self-actualization. He's a good person, but he is also a misguided young men who hasn't learned how to love properly. Kariya's character is a common archetype portrayed in a lot of media: men disregarding women's wishes and get the girl with a heroic "grand gesture". Urobuchi, however, refused to glorify this character trope like a lot of other media did. Last note about Aoi: Poor women were never treated like a real individual. She was treated as a baby-making machine by her husband, and an object of infatuation by Kariya.

Fabien

Considering all "Fates" outside of Fate/stay night and Fate/zero (and Fate/hollow ataraxia for the games only) are, afaik, parallel universes/extensions, not really the Nasuverse, I don't think we can consider it's the backstory of "our" Gilgamesh.

Anima

She is Just a Saber face and Not atoria

Alvaro Vesga

I'm glad I'm not the only one who never liked Saber's wish 😆 this is not spoiler since You Will not see the original first anime, but Even in the original she had that same wish and I remember I spent the whole season annoyed by how focused or biased she was for that wish lol

S

Person wants to better Britain Americans I don't like that

RealmForge

Saber is my most favorite character. I think the author portrays each character's morality in a very clever way, but sometimes it gets confusing. My personal take on her story in Fate: it is not about being good or bad. She does everything for Britain. She used to be an ordinary child, living the normal life of a squire, and then she pulled the sword, having been taught by Merlin how to rule. Her rule prospered once, hence the legend. Her ideal is only one thing: the ruler must sacrifice herself for the good of the people, and she took that responsibility seriously. That is reflected in how she fought and carried herself. Her sword, Excalibur, is the Sword of Promised Victory, and she never lost a war even once in her lifetime, which sparked hope in a Britain already waging war against the Saxons and others. She is more of a protector, given her era and situation, and that was how she kept the invaders out for so long and let the land prosper. However, because she took her job as king so seriously, she suppressed the human side of herself rather than losing it. She married for political reasons and accepted heavy casualties to win a war. To her, that was simply the price of being a perfect king. Yet holding herself to a standard no person could meet put her out of reach of the people serving under her. Her knights could admire her without ever understanding her, and that distance cost her reign more than any battle did. In the end, her own knights betrayed her and fought each other, and she killed her own child at the Battle of Camlann. Hence she wished to undo the past, specifically, she wished she had never pulled the sword from the stone and been crowned king, and that someone more fitting had ruled instead, especially since she saw herself as the trigger and the source of Britain's demise in her time. But we must think of the Britain at that time was much different than the Britain we knows today. During that time, Britain was much of a self-destructive strife between clans and other barbaric invasions. What hold them together was her rules from Camelot as a coalition. Not a nation-state, and nothing continuous with modern Britain. So, her wish is scoped to only her era. It is "let a better king be selected so that this Britain, the one dying in front of me, survives." She is trying to save the specific people and the specific kingdom she failed, not to edit a downstream timeline.
