That's why this is my favorite isekai. Everything in that episode was absolutely perfect, and Sara is best girl after Sylphie, Wes is a man of taste. Also phase 4 is not a turning point.

hey Wes and Steph! I know this is off-topic, but i have something important i’d like to for you guys to know! I’ve left a comment on a couple of your JoJo’s reactions, but since i was really late with the comments, it got lost in the flood of comments and you guys haven’t seen it yet. It’s about your JoJo’s reactions and where to watch it. Basically, in the future parts of JoJo’s there’s going to be a lot of censoring, especially in the names of characters and stuff in the subtitles. At the end of the day, there’s not always a huge gap between those at the very top of their school - so few ever reach the rank worthy or the “King” title. Only really a handful I think it said - I mean there hasn’t been a new one since Ghislaine. So, they’re all strong… King, Emperor, God etc… they’re all just titles in this context. Fun bit of “cut content” I guess you’d call it (cuz they can’t adapt all dialogue from a novel), is I believe Sword God said he’d give Eris the title of Emperor if she beats Ghislaine in a duel or even God if she beats him - but as we saw in this episode: Eris really isn’t interested in what people call her. (Going off of memory here, & I can have gold fish memory, so other viewers plz feel free to correct me or tell me delete this if my memory is incorrect.)

Also, I hate that it seems like everyone forgets the messed up stuff Sara said during the actual incident. She was young and took a hard blow to her romantic feelings and ego. But objectively speaking what she did was worse Rudy was being nasty, but he was drunk, severely emotionally drained, and was confiding in a friend while she immediately started coping saying that her advances were just returning a favor and directly insulting him with the awful comment. Rudy nearly kills himself after that, I don’t like how it’s down played.

I definitely understand the perspective, but it’s still objectively a mistake she made due to a lack of understanding and emotional maturity. I empathize with it I understand, my issue is more the fact that people act like Rudeus was the only one that did anything wrong. Kind of reminds me of the discussion around arc three of re:zero where yes Subaru he’s in the wrong in a lot of ways, but objectively speaking, almost everyone in that arc is a flavor of fucked up and are doing things that you can’t really justify. Although in that case it’s more an issue with the anime adaption because the LN makes it pretty clear that Subaru isn’t the only problem.

When did Eris actually save Rudeus though? At most her taking care of Rudy when he had the fight with his dads comes to mind. Eris specifically left because she couldn't save Rudeus and was always saved by him. Roxy saved him twice. By taking him outside and after Paul died. Sylphie did the whole fixing ED thing.

The reason Suzanne is working as a wetnurse is, because in her latest pregnancy (her and Timothy already have two boys I believe) she suffered a miscarriage (premature birth or something like that), so her body is still producing milk and hence she offers her services as a wetnurse.

I think in Nina's case specifically her father meant that her mindset is wrong to begin with. When he asked her which she would choose I think the answer he was looking for is that she will claim both, rather than kowtowing to her father's randomly imposed one-or-the-other-choice. Gal Farion's philosophy can probably be summarized as 'strength derives from the goal your striving towards'. So Nina's answer was probably close to what he wanted to hear, but her father knew she hadn't really internalized that principle and hence probed her through his second question. The point is wanting to become a sword king is a meaningless goal. Eris on the other hand gave the wrong answer, but it's clear she got it anyway.

Absolutely love these reactions. Just to note a few things (non-spoiler again): Polygamy is very very common in this world. The Milis religion (which promotes monogamous values) isn’t as widespread in Asura, which is where the Greyrats are from. This is why Sylphie doesn’t really mind Rudy having multiple wives as long as he’s honest about it. It’s something that’s just expected, especially amongst Asuran Nobility and especially amongst the Greyrats (who are infamously lecherous). Also, the concept of legitimacy doesn’t really apply as strongly in this world. This isn’t that relevant to the story but it’s a unique way of world building so I’ll explain: The current king of Asura has one wife, and multiple concubines. His children, so long as they are his, have an equal claim to the throne regardless of who their mother is as long as they can absolutely prove that they are the King’s child. For example, Ariel is the child of the Queen consort and the King, but her two older brothers are children of concubines. She doesn’t necessarily have a stronger claim to the throne - it’s based upon age. It is deliberately a flawed system, as you will see in the second half of season 3. Also, magic is very rigid in this world. Meaning, you can only create structures with set shapes based upon incantations. That makes it highly impractical to use magic for building. The only person who can currently circumvent this is Rudeus, who’s much more dynamic and less constricted with his magic

Hey guys, very much enjoyed the discussion in the end Here is a few things that was skipped from the LN: 1. It is interesting you guys mentioned reaching the limit of one ‘s talent. Because Eris has the same monologue. As she thinks she has almost reached her limits and she realizes she couldn’t beat Orsted alone. Her thoughts process have changed to her buying enough time for Rudy to either land a decisive blow or run away. 2. Suzanne isn’t actually a full time nurse mate. It is explained she had 2 kids and unfortunately her third kid passed away due to a premature birth. As her body is still recovering, she cannot take on any job which is when she bump into Rudy and Rudy decide to hire her as a nurse for Lucy. 3. Gino first thought to Sword God’s question was raw talent but was too scared to say it. And from just the context clues in the anime alone. While he isn’t as good as Nina and Eris, the fact that he was never shown to have taken training as seriously as Eris or Nina, but is still in consideration for Sword King definitely makes it an interesting answer.

Seeing how Sylphie talks, I think a big reason this marriage works is because she is the 1st wife. Eris would be too aggressive and Roxy would let herself be rolled over. She truly is the matriarch of this household.

Just to let you guys know. There author at some point spoke what the original story was before any major changes. He said it was mostly the same up until volume 6 where Eris actually told Rudy she was leaving and he went to the magic university expecting her to return. He met sylphy she revealed herself to him and he cheated on Eris with her. When things got serious Eris returned and a major confrontation between them happened.

love they way it ended for sara and rudy... but the way you said that he did something bad really hurt. not that rudeus did not do something bad at the end to sara, but sara's actions at the time were on the same level of severity. But thats just the usual "woman-bias" i guess... if a woman and a man do something bad thats on the same level, it is always the male who gets judged worse... sad to see you fall for this too

No. I have checked. It was in the same chapter when Eris became sword King (volume 14, extra chapter) And not based on future events. You have been confused due to the anime have mixed in chapter from different volumes. As in we are in volume 13 for Rudy, but Eris becoming Sword King is actually from the end of volume 14. But it is still from the same chapter when Eris became sword king. I can quote the whole page for you “"Determination, huh? Nope, that's wrong too." He chuckled and dismissed her. Eris, however, merely glared back at him and said, "No, it's not. Determination is the right answer." In the back of her mind, she saw Orsted stabbing Rudeus through the chest. She remembered lamenting how powerless she was as he crumpled to the ground. She had become stronger since then. Her power and speed were on a completely different level. However, it wasn't enough to beat Orsted. After years of training, Eris had glimpsed the limits of her abilities. No matter how much she trained, she would never reach Orsted's level. It wasn't an exaggeration. She knew she would never be able to defeat him on her own. But it would be a different story if she was with Rudeus. Together, they might be able to accomplish it. With his magic and her sword skills, they could win. Even if I had to sacrifice myself to pin Orsted down, Rudeus would land the final blow. If Rudeus won, that would also be a win for Eris. She would die, of course, but Rudeus would live on. It meant she would lose out on sharing a future with him, but she didn't mind that. Dwelling on the future would only make her lose her nerve, and losing her nerve would make her sword dull. A dull sword meant they would both die. If anyone was going to lose their life, it would be her. Eris was determined to pursue that outcome —or perhaps one might say she was resigned to it. "Then you don't care if you can't become a Sword King?" Gall asked. "That doesn't really matter to me."” So no. Her monologue was skipped and it isn’t spoiler.

I dont recal Eris ever saving him. She tried against Orsted but failed. Thats exactly the reason why she left. She felt worthless that she always relies on Rudy and could never do anything for him. She also hurt and traumatized him for 3 years because of that decision. Something that Sylphie undid. Now for Sylphie at the end. it might look like she might be ok with another wife but she actually put on some heavy and restricting conditions that basically no other woman in this world can fulfill. She did that to help him. She saw that there was something on his mind and that he was struggling with something. She thought that Sara might have been that special person. When he denied having feelings for her she knew that there must be another one out there.

They anime has been changing things around so certain things that were said in this volume might be saved for the second half of this season. People thought they were gonna cover 3 volumes for this cour but it looks like they are only covering 2

The thing is it wasnt Rudeus who was saying all that to Sara. It was the alcohol speaking. Soldat pumped him full of alkohol. A 14 year old boy with so much alkohol isnt sound of mind in what he was saying. Sara on the other hand said all that to Rudy on her own without alcohol in her blood.

I think you might have a point there is that saying that a drunk mind has sober thoughts but it’s not really accurate. Alcohol can have various effects from person the person and a lot of the time it just serves as fuel for pre-existing stress, which leads to talking crazy

Rudy didn’t end up with Sarah is because Sarah doesn’t have an ahoge on her head. The rule of the anime is that the male protagonist will marry the female character who has an ahoge.

Bit of Cut Content Suzanne had 2 kids and her third was a still born. She became a wet nurse after that to make some money on the side. It just so happened that Rudeus was looking for one at the time

never said that sara is the only one at fault. I already said, both needed to apologize for what they did. Rudy for his comments after being druck and sara for her reaction after him realizing his sickness. So its okay to abuse somebody for his illness, even if unintended, but shouting in a drunk state that some random girl has small breasts and is bad in bed is better? Both actions are wrong, and both, rudy and sara, should apologize to the other for what they did. Nothing more and nothing less. What irks me so much are poeple "white knight"-ing for sara and, by extension, for woman in general

Rudy was 14 when he met Sara, and probably 15 when they split up. Then he was almost 17 when he left for the school and another few months passed before he and Sylphy got together. SYlphy gave birth nine months after that and 6 months-ish have passed between the start of the season and this episode given Lucy's age. So Rudy should be 18 or maybe 19 by now?

Speaking of Eris's new title, it's odd that in anime at least we haven't seen anyone mention what rank Rudy has other than that at age 4-5 he was Saint-class water mage and last episode he learned a King-class water spell. But his earth magic is stronger than his water magic, taking down a demon king, a dragon, etc. (and his fire magic was impressive enough to force Orsted to use exotic countermeasures). He's been in an academic setting for years, presumably with plenty of masters and others who test people, so it's odd no one has brought it up even if he's not interested (e.g., students wondering about it). (I'd also like to know what his sword rank is these days,, but Rudy hasn't really spent time around any master who might grant such titles since leaving Ghislaine; Rujerd didn't care about formal rankings and Paul had more important things on his mind.

Actually Rudy was something like 13 and a half when met Sarah. After he split up with Sarah, he traveled with Soldat for around 2 years before running into Elinalise. Rudy is either on the cusp of turning 18 now or just barely 18. I know for a fact that he is 18 for the events in the upcoming arcs though.
