You know what it would be interesting for you to watch a video explaining noble phantasms their effects and inspirations. Like Lancelot berserker noble phantasm is "knight of owner" - with it he made Gilgamesh weapons his and took control of jet. It's based on legend of him using anything even a twig as a weapon. Or his ability to take shape of Iskander when he stole Iry. It's based on him donning black armor to pretend as other or nameless knight in tournaments, also it's why Waver wasn't able to see his stats it's obfuscates his skills and identity. When you finish other series you would be able to watch without spoiling

Looking up who the servants are once their names have been mentioned shouldnt be considered bad. The anime doesnt really go into any detail about them, so it shouldnt spoil anything, especially since Fate often tinkers with the original stories.

Regarding Arthurian legend, its quite a contemporary idea to consider Mordred the son of Morgana. He was traditionally the son of their elder sister Morgause, but her role seems to be increasingly merged with Morgana's in modern versions of the story. Fate lore on this matter though is an entirely different beast lol. Also pronounced like Kolkis rather than a ch sound, quite common with Greek words where the C's are pronounced like k's, e.g. Circe is pronounced like Kurkee, Scylla like Skeela. I think the character Steph is thinking of is Ariadne from Theseus and the Minotaur. Pretty good guess narratively. I am just shocked you guys also didn't grow up with the Jason and the Arguonauts film, I know it's from like 1963, but that was still played on tv fairly often when I was a kid. As a person who loves mythology, folklore and legends I would always encourage anyone who is interested to look them up if shows like Fate inspire you to do so. On a spoiler front the mythology of fate is often highly distorted from the legends, the series likes to give interesting takes on the possible ideals of legends based on their stories, but dispenses with any attempts to retain accurate details of their stories., it's very much it's own universe. However in this specific case, based on what you've said, if you look it up you will find the answer pretty quickly, so up to you on that, the show has given you the clue, whether you follow it through is up to you. Hah! Got to the end of the reaction and you did look it up, yeah I knew you'd pick it up fast if you did.

Personally, I feel like once a servant is named or titled, it’s fine to look them up, because that’s the point when they want you to know who it is. I believe Caster’s name is said in the next episode or 2, but it’s not really that big of a deal to learn it now. Also, if I remember correctly, Saber and Lancer are the only 2 hero’s who are not explicitly named in Unlimited Blade Works. Obviously, you already know Saber, but the only clue for lancer was calling him “Ireland’s Child of Light” back in episode one. For him, you can just look him up after episode 19 or 20

If you like the domestic stuff there's literally a sort of slice-of-life version of the series that's just all of them (Master, Servants, and side characters) chilling out and eating together. It's basically a what-if scenario where they just decide not to fight, it's very wholesome. Obviously don't check it out until after you're done with all of Fate Stay/Night but after that it's a nice relaxing watch.

The ending of this episode is called This Illusion. And is THE song of Fate/ It was the opening of the original Visual Novel and is the most iconic song in all of Fate. Also, don’t worry about searching for the stories about the heroes. Like, when they drop a clue, they expect the spectator to do research. So yeah, if something catch your curiosity regarding a region or myth just search it.

The unholy pajamas. There is a joke in Fate that Saber is a glutton. It is not play up much in UBW, but there is the hint that she's always eating and finished dishes fast. In the game where there is more time for jokes it is pointed out as way to poke fun at her. She specially loves Shirou's Japanese food and complains when bad food is served. Another fun fact, Rin's specialty is Chinese food and she likes strong food profiles with lots of spice and grease which puts her at odds with Shirou's palate sometimes. Sakura is also big in Japanese food thanks to Shirou.

Speculating on Servant Identities is one of the most fun parts of the Fate/ franchise. Whenever they name-drop a servant or give major hints about their identity, it's actually recommended to research a bit about their original legend/history so that you can either appreciate or be flabbergasted by the changes in how they're depicted in the series.

Actually, in the vn you even had character sheets for servants in which their myth/story was available to read at some point in the story. So yeah, you were expected to know more than just what was said in the dialogues.

Caster’s reaction to being called a “witch” is not a translation issue. It’s a derogatory title given to her that triggers her. Saying any more would be spoilers. And her interest in Shirou is genuine. She’s mentioned a few times she’s intrigued by his unique abilities. On the bridge she even dissed Rin for not being her type. When Caster asked Rin if she was jealous and followed it up by saying she’s “not interested in omnipotence”, she was talking about Rin’s all-around skill and immense talent. She finds little miss perfect boring lol. In Fate there is a distinction between mages, wizards (people who can perform true magic, there’s around 4 of them depending on how you count), and witches (a race distinct from, but extremely similar to, humans). And regarding Shirou sacrificing himself for Fujimura. It’s true that Shirou doesn’t see much value in his own life. But beyond that, Fujimura is basically an older sister to him. Thats why he calls her Fuji-nee, as in nee-san, or sister. Prior to Stay Night Shirou, Fuji-nee, and Sakura formed a found family of sorts.

1:05:00 It's not spoilers to look up the stories, it's canon. It's the reason they go by class - if you know their name, you know their legend, and therefore know their weakness. Reading up on the legends when you get a new clue is just being a mage about it.

General speaking about the difference meaning of witch and mage and why Caster seems to be irritated or angered by it: I think a Witch is mostly assumed to be bad. A Mage is more like a neutral or even good term for people with magic abilities. In a lot of stories Witches are the bad ones. So to call someone a Witch is like insulting a female Mage. I guess Necromancer for example is also expected to be bad. I mean, shouldn't everyone call Rin also a witch if it's just a female term for mage.

Yes looking up the heroes and their legends is fine. Just make sure not check their Type-Moon/Grand Order wikia pages where you might get spoiled what's coming for those character in the show.

Man, I'm just so happy to see new people getting into Fate and enjoy it. It's the best. Please don't watch extra after heaven's feel though, it'll be SO confusing. There's lots of sidestories to watch first that all integrate into it.

I agree with the cross culture. One of my favorite sandwiches is the Banh Mi. Vietnam was a French colony.... A silver lining though is the hybrid food. Bahn Mi uses French bread and Vietnamese meat paste and veggies. If you guys ever go to a Pho resturant, try some Banh Mi with the pho, it's a great combo.

Hi, finally I am catching up to you guys. Well , basically Morgana or Merlin gave dick to Artoria to have Modred lol theres deep lore we need to dig from Fate GrandOrder. It would be helpful to have certain knowledge of world's epics and myths in our Fate journey. The recent anime of Fate, Fate Strange Fake had me looking up for myths and even the other works of Nasuverse' writers. Oh also I finished your reaction to Steins;Gate, you can hear Gilgamesh voice when Daru is older or in brainwashed state ;p

The way Wes keep mentioning Enkidu puts a smile to my face I want them to react to other Fate franchise so much. Speaking of the Fate series this is the equivalent of the Marvels or DC of franchises with multiple heroes and stories to tell.

I also read up on Medea because of fate and I just feel for that poor woman. The way I see it, Aphrodite brainwashed her into falling in love with Jason, basically turning the plot into something resembling that movie Obsession. She killed her own brother to help Jason escape with the golden fleece and in the end he leaves her for another woman. Almost a valid crashout

Saber needs to eat. Something that was skipped because you didnt see the Fate route is that Saber is not a spirit. That is why she cant turn invisible at school like Archer. She is taken from the battlefield by the grail just before she died.

Yeah, I agree looking up names of characters who are mentioned are NOT spoilers; indeed, it's recommended, for proper enjoyment as this way you can appreciate when FATE plays with the myths (e.g., making Arthur female). This Caster (Medea) is probably one of my favorite servants. Medea's tragedy caught the imagination of creators from ancient times (starting with Euripedes play, one of the foundations of theatre); as a tragic figure and also perhaps the most powerful mortal sorceress of ancient times, she has also been the main character of dozens of plays, operas, and other dramatic works for over 2500 years...
