In last seconds of Break-time, you could hear sounds of he's armor, beside that, in previous break-time we saw Al, but he didn't have any scar. And he said some interesting things in third season like "It hurts the first time you die". Tbh can't comment any more than this, walking on thin ice, still surprised how much of foreshadowing they put into Break-times

Insert badass Subaru tiktok edit. Ok, so I'll be kinda harsh as a light novel reader : This episode was EXTREMELY badly adapted. This episode was supposed to rival turning point 4 of mushoku tensei and, be one of the top 5 best moment of Rezero all time. It's legitimately a recap episode when it didn't need to. I can understand why Anime only likes it, but they literally cut 80% of the material for it. For exemple the progression in newbaru emotion was way more fluid. He didn't switch from angry to calm that fast, also Rui chapiter was cut, her backstory, motivation, lore about Od Laguna, Gluttony and the witch factors. Her view on her other self and Subaru. They cut everything, and I won't spoil but RUI IS A EXTREMELY IMPORTANT CHARACTER. She is a fan favorite for a LOT of people and she doesn't only impact this arc.

In the web novel there’s actually a kingdom hearts reference as Subaru says “Looks like my summer vacation is over” 😭

Aquos Rocketleague & Stuff

the way i understand it is, that the "new Subaru" was actually Rui and not just subaru without memories, kinda like Roy in Reid Form, when the other rui said "Wasnt the plan to take over his body and do mean things" if you remember there were loops were Subaru killed Meili and didnt remember afterwards but had "Natsuki Subaru was here" etched into his arm.

To elaborate further, the last scene why Rui freaked out is not just because of eating Subaru's memory. In the final scene, one of Rui tell us what was their plan was. Which is, "one of Rui crawl inside the empty Subaru and cause all sorts of trouble". Yes, the Newbaru's blackout things were Rui taking over Newbaru and did terrible things such as killing Meili. Like she was literally inside Newbaru, and experience all the terrible things. Real First-hand experience. She did mentioned last episode that they want fresher sensation of death, not just memory of death. They called it OLD. And she successfully experience the "fresher" sensation of death that she wants badly... But it was too much for her to handle.

This show has always played with the idea of how people see themselves and others from different perspectives. Like the part where Subaru sees himself as doing everything for Emilia's sake, while Emilia just sees him doing it for himself, while Subaru sees Emilia as someone she doesn't see herself as, I think Emilia even said "The Emilia that Subaru sees must be someone amazing." Then there's of course the classic, where Subaru unleashes his hatred and disgust for himself, his weakness, greed, incompetence, foolishness... Only for Rem to name even more things that she loves about him, making him realize that it's not just about how you see yourself and others, but how others see themselves and you. And then there may have been more examples, but I think this episode brings it all together perfectly, where he's forced to see others from their perspective, and others have to see him while he's unable to see himself as the person they see him as, and then finally, he has to see himself from a third party, and his own perspective at the same time.

o7 Newbaru my Goat I will always miss you and welcome back Oldbaru

Genuine peak episode, for me this was the seasons climax seeing Subaru face the reality that his past amnesiac self was basically the same like him but became so beloved and trusted by his friends and the people he cares about through his love for those people, and finally showing himself some self love and appreciation. As someone of same age, interests and self view as Subaru, this episode alongside season 4 episode 11 were; amazing, super relatable and emotional, and to put simply I really frick with Subaru. This season has and will continue to be amazing and I will always love Subaru as a character. (Great reaction aswell guys ✌️)

Klinch

Whaaatt? That "yo brother"... I think Al greets the same way (at least to Subaru). Or am I misremembering it?

The Anime Dude

Have some critiques, but overall Solid episode. What they’re choosing to put in break times is wild 😮 they no longer feel like a break.

Nostalgino MO

"there is gonna be good moments too" , what anime do you think you are watching , wes

Koko

no way really?! it doesn't make any sense if you don't have the reference lol!

The biggest thing that was peak on this episode was Subaru was finally able to say he's amazing. Before he always see himself as worthless and trash. The author creates situations where character development is done in spectacular ways. Subaru's growth is special in this episode since it took an outside perspective (of himself) to see the best traits he has.

D B

Yes, I think Subaru was Imitating Al there for sure. But then he realized calling him brother might invite misunderstandings lol.

This episode was so good 😭 , the idea that Newbaru desperately wanted to believe Subaru was actually a superhuman who could solve everything, but he was just a weak, powerless guy, just like him. Yet, it's exactly that which makes Natsuk Subaru amazing. Also the contrast between how the two Subaru's empathized with each other and found peace and trust, whereas the two Rui's turned against each other was so satisfying to see. And guys, did Al just die in Break Time? He really must have some power relating to ressurection, but is it also Return By Death? Is it time to bring back the Al is Subaru theory??? No idea 😅

Klinch

That's fair. It just caught me off guard. 😂

hellodude776

i think it's just a gag of the typical Japanese mafia dude, I've seen it in anime often, so it's just because they are both from Japan

mimiyowa

eeh??? since when did Patreon support images in comments omg !! actual good feature for once??

Kindyh Bordat

It's only in the phone app version. And yeah it's pretty cool, I'm gonna constantly use it no.

Carlo Marasigan

I find it so poetic that in both Rui and Roy, their downfall was biting more than what they can chew. Maybe thats the weakness of all of Gluttony.

Matthew Wise

I'm sus about Subaru mentioning with Meili he saw her from birth, but with the first book he read he started from when he came to the world. So either we are supposed to interpret that his soul only fell into the remit of Od Lagna when he came to the world for the first time or perhaps it wasn't the first loop. There's a lot of stuff that seems very intentional, like how his mum is drawn, his 'mean eyes', the moonlight on Emilia's hand, the fact in the first loop she called herself Satella so freely but then was weird after it, Shaula knowing japanese phrases/slang. I've heard that season 1 is the most important season and the author was more involved in it because it had to be right. I don't read the web novel, but I don't think what we've seen is his first time here, I don't know if he is Flugal or maybe his dad is, but something is off.

Roger Diesendorf

I believe Emilia called herself Satella to test Subaru, and try to push him away before he got involved with her. It doesn’t take away from your theory whatsoever though

A Shady Outsider

They probs cut it out due to not having enough runtime to close out this season with a great ending. They might cover all that in the next season considering that Rui seems to join their group.

Kindyh Bordat

I don't know if you are a novel reader but if you aren't... Next saison will adapt the Volachia arc, and it's a LOT of books. I think the equivalent of 2 full 24 episodes anime or 1 and a half Bible. So it would be really stupid to had even more content to something that will be extremely crammed.
