A small explanation on why Caster is OP. In Fate there are two main Eras, the Era of the gods and the era of humanity. During the time of gods from where Medea is the power of magecraft was closer true magic. The rise of humanity led to the dominance of science. As concepts became understood by science their mystery disappeared and the hold of magecraft on them too. As a mage from the time of the Greek gods and a known witch, Caster is a supremely strong mage unlike the likes of Gilles. Also, the restrictions of modern magecraft mostly don't apply to her as she is a servant

Episode 15 has a unique end song so make sure not to skip it. This is around when the plot starts to really ramp up, in that sense it isn't too different from fate/zero which also picks up around the halfway mark.

Gilgamesh isn't a Servant in the normal sense, rather he was a Servant and got incarnated. He calls himself a Servant in a bit of a tongue in cheek way.

No spoilers just explanations of things you forgot a little or off about. About assassin - fake assassin is one Caster summoned and he is only one participating. He's called fake cause he's summoned by her not because there are other true one in this war. Two servants of the same class under normal circumstances can't be in one war and caster didn't break it. About Shinji - you saw him forging contract with Gilgamesh after being convinced by Kirei to continue when he ran to church for protection when rider was killed by Kuzuki (it's him who killed her and it is heavily implied in anime. And outright confirmed in game) About Gilgamesh's class - he is classless because he is alive he just contracted Shinji as servant. You can consider him archer as his vessel is constructed from his archer form. About berserker - you did mention Heracles along Achilles but were more concentrated on Achilles))

Funny since Noble phantasms is literally named ***** book in the all the official material. The explanation being that's the only way for the Grail balance both of them as Casters. Same with Medea, she got a conceptual NP because her qualifying NP (the Golden Fleece) would make her too Op if she summoned a dragon.

Well for grail war it is true. But I want believe unrestricted saint graph in throne of heroes has all her noble phantasms. Including true dragon teeth warriors, fully utilized Argo coin, some bs magic, etc. So sad there will be no content with Medea anymore.. at lest with her original voice actor.

From my understanding, Shinji isn't actually Gilgamesh's master, gilgamesh is just pretending to create a false weakness.

So the version of Medea here is the one that was enchanted by an arrow of love. So she never really wanted to abandon her homeland or kill her relatives. Also, as to why they just reveal Berserker's true name so nonchalantly is because UBW is the second part of Fate/stay night story. So basically at this point you're supposed to know his identity from the first route. That’s why they said his name as nothing. (That’s why after Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel you guys should watch Fate/stay night 2006 that adapts mostly the first route 😌). As of a weakness for Heracles. In the myth he killed himself after being poisoned with Hydra poison. The pain was so bad that he just decided to end it all. Finally, the Homunculi thing. Gilgamesh says that they are children of nature because in Fate Homunculi are basically artificial faeries. And he was melancholic seeing them because of them being "tools with personalities", thing that was also true for his dear friend.

a few episodes ago Kirei asks Shinji if he wants to continue and I believe it cuts to Shinji with Gilgamesh so thats when you were meant to infer the new partnership. Gilga is reincarnated but like Wes says he basically still has the Servant tag tied to him because of the contract made with Kirei in Fate Zero and the way he came back into being. Fame, Divinity, Originality (in terms of age you come from and whether you were the first version of something), Feats during life. Class Container, Mana of the Master and location are the main things used to determine the power of a servant. With those you could do a tale of the tape on servants for fantasy match ups.

There was something Archer mentionned when he first encountered Caster, that she can imitate True Magic. And here caster mentions "Modern mages". Today's day mages do Magecraft, not Magic/True Magic. You'll understand more about it and who are the people who can use it later in the show.

Didn't you see that Gilgamesh was like living with Kirei in previous eps ? I'm unsure if it's clear in the anime, but I think we did see it. Anyway, in the first dialogue between Shinji and Gilgamesh in a previous ep it was implied Kirei made them meet.

One of the best things about best girl Medea is she put Saber in a dress in the church & to this day I still have no idea why. 😭 It just felt so random. (I have not played the visual novel yet)

This is one of my favorite episodes, for Medea in particular but also for the other scenes. In terms of "saving innocent children from human sacrifice" it's ironic that in Fate/Zero it was little Rin rather than any servant or master, even Saber, who saved them (from evil caster and his serial-killer servant), and here it was Caster who saved fifty innocent lives.... So in terms of "objective do-gooding" you can argue that, so far, Medea is the true hero of Unlimited Blade Works (if you ignore those people who have had a little bit of their life force drained, of course..)

Hi guys, love your reactions, finally subbed to your patreon and I've been binge watching your Fate reactions. Just a little note about the dress that Saber was wearing. Yes it's fan service, but it's also lore accurate ! In her legend, Medea offered a poison dress to Jason's new wife to take her revenge. In this case, she put her poison dress on Saber to weaken her Servant body. In previous episodes, Medea kept mentioning Saber's magic resistance, which allowed Saber to resist the command spells Medea used on her. Medea is basically slowly breaking Saber to take full control of her as her Master. Clever way from the author to add fan service while using Medea's lore.

I'm not even sure if Shinji even made a contract with Gilgamesh since Gigamesh doesn't need any mana from the master to exist at this moment. Shinjj is doing absolutely nothing.

I think Medea freeing the kids is less a noble act and her just seeing their lives being used in that system as such a tremendous waste (like watching someone trying to light a candle dowse it with a gallon of gasoline first).

Honestly, I would not be surprised if he never did and Shinji is not aware. I don't remember if it even got brought up in the game. I do know he's still contracted to Kirei even without the need for supplementary mana. Edit: I looked it up and Shinji is just a dumbass.

Medea’s title, the “Witch of Betrayal”, is layered with meaning. Kirei hints at this and you guys touched on it with her varying legends. In Fate, Medea’s legend is as a plaything of the Greek gods. To aid Jason on his journey, Aphrodite magically forced Medea to fall deeply in love with him. While bewitched Medea carried out most of the atrocities she’s known for due to her love of Jason (though she may not have been happy about it). She finally loses her mind when Jason takes another wife, essentially forsaking Medea and her love despite all the evil deeds she did to help him on his journey. These events shape her warped character and her taste in men. She hates charismatic pretty boys (they remind her of Jason) and bulked up muscle heads (aka Heracles whom she sailed with on the Argo). She’s into men of average build who are quiet, stoic, and would never exploit her. Incidentally, Kuzuki-sensei fits this description perfectly.

Some reveals, like in the 14th episode in UBW you reacted to, are going to be underwhelming because they assume you are familiar with the Fate route story events. It's kinda like starting Naruto from Shippuden. To compensate, imagine there was an entire prequel of Naruto called Minato by a different mangaka (not Kishimoto), that's what you watched in Fate/Zero.

How Gilgamesh is here was covered in the Fate route that ufotable skipped. Basically he just stayed on after the events of the 4th holy grail war. He kept going by feeding off the life energy of some of the orphans from the Fuyuki fire. They are still there at the basement of the church being kept barely alive, looking like mummies in coffins.

Is this the part where we have to mention that fate/stay night was actually an erotic visual novel? Okay, that is true, but to be fair, that was pretty much every mature visual novel back in the 1990s to... actually, it still is. So, uh, yeah, there's definitely some rules and concepts in the fate universe that was pretty much made that way as an excuse to have sex scenes... Like sharing mana between two people through... "intimate physical contact." I've yet to play the VN myself, but I have it ready to go... Can't wait to see who Shirou ends up shagging😂 And somehow I feel that strangely erotic scene with Saber plays out a bit differently in the game...

59:06 Hercules is indeed one of Wes's earlier guesses! 1:08:37 At the end of fate/zero gilgamesh incarnated, he's no longer a "summoned" servant. i suppose you can say he and kirei stayed acquainted/friends. Kirei being the overseer made arrangements in an earlier episode when Shinji came to him complaining that his servant (Rider) died because she was too weak. Since gilgamesh and him like to have their fun, they're just being a joker card.

Fate actually got me into Arthurian legends. I'm a fan of mythology but I never looked into King Arthur that much nor did we really read much about it in class when I was in high school/college. I have a collection of the stories that were made into books from Folio Society now. They're very beautiful and have illustrations in them too.

About him never existing it's not true. He is part of a real story, he might have existed might have not. It's not that he definitely didn't. Also there are other characters who didn't exist in games and they are not called fake

I'd personally, not that I believe the plan will change, rather see Stay Night 2006 before going into Heaven's Feel. Heaven's Feel is so distinctly an ending to the entire three-route story, it should always go last imo.

Agreed, but since in the poll the order of Zero->UBW->HF won they have to watch those first. The best we can hope for is that they react to 2006 after being done HF.

Funny enough, you see more of Rin's cooking in Saber's route (never adapted sadly). Her specialty isn't really a spoiler or a surprise once you finish a bit farther in any story route. She's competitive on a petty level as expected though.
