I'm still confused by your takes on what a "Handler" does. They are the go-between for the Centre and Philip/Elizabeth, they don't have a separate agenda to be "working" their agents. Gabriel/Granny is to Philip/Elizabeth what Gaad essentially is to Stan The only time the Handler "turned" on their Directorate-S agents was when Claudia had to figure out if one of them was the mole. And that was because they were 2 of the only people in the world that knew about the info that was leaked. Am I missing another time when P/E were being "worked"? Originally airing on April 8, 2015, 'One Day in the Life of Anton Baklanov' is Episode 11 of Season 3 of The Americans. It is the 37th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 7.9, placing it as the #11 ranked episode of this season and #26 out of all the episodes shown so far.

Maybe we are reading that the wrong way. He's just so sinister. Plus with Phillips frustrations we assumed they were headed to conflict! Glad we're wrong because this show is great and I don't wanna spoil what they have planned.

I think it's useful to remember how delighted P&E were to see Gabriel. He had been their Handler in the past and they both clearly considered him to be a true ally, competent and trustworthy. For Philip at least, that trust has been eroded.
