I will say this show is well known for having characters/situations in episodes where there are things that are never resolved or even mentioned again. People still ask David Chase about certain episodes and what happened etc, and he just says “I don’t know. In life most things don’t wrap up neatly, so why shouldn’t things be like that on the show.”

Alison Wright knocks it out of the park. AGAIN.

Elizabeth giving Philip grief for aborting the meet is a bit weird, the Moscow Rules are very clear that you trust your gut. On the other hand Elizabeth knows that Philip can be a bit flaky, so....

Weird Magic

I think Elizabeth knows something's "wrong" with Philip and she isn't trusting his gut

It's gotta be hard cutting up the youtube reaction for this because so much of it is staring at the TV while the tension builds - but so much tension. Still no gun..... Two very minor comments - take a peak at the title of the next episode. Also a small note from wardrobe - during the "Stan v Martha" standoff at the copier....Martha is wearing Wicked Witch of the West earrings....is she a fan of the Wizard of Oz or is she turning evil?

Originally airing on March 16, 2016, 'Glanders' is Episode 1 of Season 4 of The Americans. It is the 40th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.1, placing it as the #12 ranked episode of this season and #17 out of all the episodes shown so far. 8.1 - and the second lowest rated episode this season :)

You're exactly right about Elizabeth, and this is far from Philip's first flakey-time, not least the very first episode. However my point is that it is also dangerous for Elizabeth to get Philip to completely turn off his gut-radar....

I'm doing a partial re-watch of Billions at the moment, which was also shot in New York, and just had an episode that featured Susan Misner, Kelly AuCoin, and Noah Emmerich. All excellent actors so the double-takes were very short-lived! 🤣

Weird Magic

Also a bit of trivia - Noah Emmerich and Joshua Malina are friends from college. They were a member of an a cappella group at Yale.

I'm a fan of that. They've moved on and whatever story they were involved has to. It's not a fault at all! I think more projects should have some ambiguity.

There's a few shows we do that are like that. I think she's turning evil. She will do anything for him. I think we see that she is becoming more and more comfortable with whatever it is Clark needs. She'll absolutely ride til the end with him.

He was ;) Season 1 Episode 14 - "Take This Sabboth Day" - the one with Karl Malden

I actually wrote this on the wrong video as it was something Kevin mentioned at the beginning of the Sopranos reaction about the College episode, but it does work for this one as well! LOL.

There's a short segment at the end of the official podcast episode for S4 E3 (so don't listen to it yet!) where Joel Field talks about how they developed Pastor Tim's response to Paige's revelation. Joel Fields' father actually was a rabbi(!). He and Joe Weisberg tapped various religious and civil rights people to get a sense of how they would react to receiving such news. Ultimately it's a balance of protecting the individual versus the community, especially if there's violence involved, but no over-riding obligation to secrecy*. *There's presumably specific rules for information conveyed during Confession to a Catholic priest, but I think that's a different situation.

For the record, Glanders is real....and real nasty.
