"Somewhere Else" - It just occurred to me that the S2 premier was a 2-parter, and that's why we have 12 episodes and not 13 this season.

Not much to say other than I love this episode and the twist of them returning back to Earth and their lives. You really do need to watch downtown abbey, it is in my opinion one of if not the greatest series of all time. Something to consider when you're looking for a new series to react to

You're so right about the casting of the Mike Schur shows. And in this case there's an additional level to it: With 6 principal roles, rather than playing safe with reassuringly familiar faces, he cast 4 of the roles with people who were essentially unknown to the TV viewership. D'Arcy Carden (Janet) got Barry simultaneously with this (and was fortunately allowed to do both). Manny Jacinto (Jason) was a Canadian dancer with almost no TV credits. Jameela Jamil (Tahani) had literally never acted before (she'd been a UK TV host/interviewer and moved to LA to be a writer). William Jackson Harper (Chidi) was basically a NYC theater actor with a handful of TV credits -- a couple of them good, but he was feeling the financial insecurity of the theater actor's life and was thinking of quitting acting. But his last try at pilot season got him The Good Place. And it feels like the four of them were the absolute perfect people to embody this story. I can't imagine anyone else.

This is such an exciting finale and really cements the fact that this show can (and will) do anything, taking the show in a direction I never would have anticipated.

You know, since neither of you has seen it, I hope you'll keep Downton Abbey in a corner of your minds for a future reaction. It's seriously underrated, but it's in my opinion the best period drama in recent years, and well worth the watch. Plus it's a British show, so you know there aren't too many episodes 😉

This finale is very different to S1's, but sometimes I almost like it more. Rather than a bombshell and a "Where do we go now?", this one sets up exactly where the show will go next, for the first time giving a clear goal and the complete status quo change of finding a way to do another "reboot" with the memory wipe but it doesn't feel cheap and instead like something that was always being built up to without us knowing, it's done really well

This is a show of fantastic finales. The first season finale completely changed the game, this changes the show again but in a different and innovative way still, and the next two finales are just sob city, they're so beautiful. I heard someone say once that The Good Place is what academia could be if it was more accessible - we're talking about complex ethical and philosophical ideas but at no point do we as the audience feel dumb or less than as we learn alongside the characters. I'm excited for the dive into season 3!

I agree and I love that sentiment. Not to be corny but it makes you feel good. Like you can hold your head up and try to do better

I enjoy Downton Abbey a lot but I admit my favorite part of Downton Abbey is the "Up Yours, Downstairs!" reaction podcast by Kelly Anneken and Amy Schneider (who went by a different name then). A rare "humorists react" reaction podcast that's both delightful AND extremely educational. We aren't yet at the part of culture recursively eating itself where youtubers can react to reaction podcasts I suppose?

She was isolated during both times: good & bad she was still doing it all on her own. Thus, the idea that we owe one another connects us. Having those connections is what made her better.

Is Downton Abbey really that good? I have never seen a second of it and I hear nothing but good things about it.
