Hey guys Joe here! I'm typing this on my brand spanking new laptop. This thing is awesome. I have all the software downloaded to start a show. It's coming tomorrow, that's right tomorrow! I'm excited to start it and I know many of you are too. Thanks for being here.

Glad you got it all replaced. I’m excited to see what the new pick is. Whatever it is I will enjoy your insights on.

Weird Magic

I'm guessing it's the Crown - anybody else have a guess?

Joy M

I’m still pushing for Northern Exposure.

Possibly one of these...? Billions, UK version of House Of Cards, The Expanse, Chernobyl, Deadwood, I Claudius (to partner with The Sopranos), Watchmen, Lost, The Wire (except that I think that's on the schedule anyway?), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,....and my LONG longshot: Patriot.

Kevin here. We are indeed replacing Mad Men with The Wire (very excited to finally see it), and we will soon finish Derry Girls, which will be replaced by a run of mini-series, including Chernobyl. Thanks for being here!

Chris

These would all be great choices though I haven’t heard of Patriot.

Patriot was one of the first four(?) original Amazon Prime homebrew shows: > Patriot is an American comedy-drama television series created by Steven Conrad. It premiered on November 5, 2015, on Amazon Prime Video, with the remaining first-season episodes released on February 23, 2017. It stars Michael Dorman, Kurtwood Smith, Michael Chernus, Kathleen Munroe, Aliette Opheim, Chris Conrad, Terry O'Quinn and Debra Winger. In April 2017, Amazon announced that it had renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on November 9, 2018. In July 2019, Amazon announced that it had no plans for a third season.[1] Premise To prevent Iran from going nuclear, intelligence officer John Tavner must forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous non-official cover ("NOC") of a mid-level employee at a Milwaukee industrial piping firm. < Patriot is a really WEIRD show, super-smart, with bone-dry dark humour, mixed with some Arrested Development-level farce. Nominally a spy show, but doesn't sit comfortably in that genre. I'm not even sure what genre to call it! :) It's very niche, so probably not one for the masses, but with only eighteen episodes across two seasons, it would maybe be an option for a Patreon-only thing. But if nothing else I'm just happy to throw it out there for awareness value, since very few people are aware of it, let alone have watched it. The lead is played by the actor that portrays Gordo in For All Mankind, and he's basically unrecognisable from that, a stellar acting performance.

For the record I did enjoy the US version of House of Cards, albeit the last season is a bit of a trainwreck because of Kevin Spacey's off-screen issues. That meant they they had to dump a lot of what they had done and do a complete re-write. Just wasn't the same, but they deserved to close it out. The showrunner (Beau Willimon) went on to help shepherd Andor, which probably should go on the list once S2 is available. The UK version of House Of Cards is just brilliant, and from Derry Girls and Fleabag we know that K&S (etc) will have enough support from UK viewers to help decipher the very Britishy bits of it. My only advice is that if you are unfamiliar with the story of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, watch the UK mini-series with Alec Guinness FIRST (also on my list of recommendations), before watching House Of Cards (it'll become obvious why!). TTSS is usually available somewhere on YouTube, presumably can be rented / purchased as well, I'm sure.

I assume you both have see "The Man in the High Castle"...if not it's a great adaptation of Phillip K Dick to TV

Well, IMO, Interview with the Vampire is currently the best show out right now that apparently no one is watching, which is a shame to me. It’s a gothic vampire romance so—HIGH drama, which I personally love! I was surprised I would even be interested in it but when I finally checked it out, I thoroughly fell in love with the storytelling and writing. It’s on AMC+!

Kelsey Krehbiel

The movie is great and unironically my favorite Tom Cruise performance of all time. I haven't watched the TV show purely because I don't have AMC+ and don't want to pay for it, but I have heard nothing but good things about it!

If you´re watching mini-series. I can recommend "Defending Jacob"

Youtalkingtome

Kevin here. It had better not be The Crown; we will be watching that on the channel together down the road!

I think I left a comment about it on one of the Derry Girls videos, but I can't recommend Reservation Dogs highly enough--it takes the 30-minute format to places I never thought possible. I really hope y'all check it out in the future, even just one episode!

Ari.g

ooo if you’re doing multiple mini-series - def do queens gambit! only one season 🫶🫶
