To say I've been refreshing like it's my job is an understatement, lol. Can't wait to watch!

D Gyre

ITS HERE!!!

D Gyre

If anyone is looking for a place to buy the whole series, Vudu/Fandangoathome has it currently for $60, so lightly less than Amazon?

trenton gragg

This was a good late career run for Alan Alda in the 2000’s. He had a guest star run on ER in 2000, receiving a guest actor Emmy nomination. This same year, in 2004, he is on the West Wing and has a Supporting turn in The Aviator. Receiving an Oscar nomination for the latter. Also, His Emmy nominated guest role on 30 Rock.

Cristy

I'm with Donna, try to make me not vote for him, lol. I love Alan Alda and I love Senator Arnold Vinick. That shoe shining scene with Josh is iconic. He's the only Republican I like (other than Ainsley and Joe). So glad you guys are excited. Can't wait for next week, you have no idea, this show is pure poetry going forward until the series end.

dys

Big day for guest stars! I've been especially excited about this since you saw Alda on 30 Rock.

MrRuss50

And it its only going to get better and better. Right about here was when I forgot all about the show needing Aaron Sorkin or else. Kevin was sharp with the surgeon general being invited on the plane. Good catch.

Emma Samuel

Your reaction bought me SO much joy. All I'll say is there's a reason everyone is so hyped for you to reach S6 and 7.... it's just amazing TV.

D Gyre

How does Alan Alda stack up as a guest star like Daniel Day Lewis like you said in the beginning! He's a big one we didn't want spoiled, your reaction was great. One of the best episodes of the later seasons. We said things took off a few episodes ago, and here you see it just ramping up more. This is going to be so much fun. Here we go!

Joy M

Loved Kevin’s reaction to hearing Alan Alda’s voice.

Jake

One of my favorite episodes. I pull this up all the time solely for "This plane is going to China!" The introduction of Sen. Vinick is just the cherry on top. Very excited for you to see what comes next!

Laura Room

Great episode! I'm confident you're both going to love the rest of the series.

Sly_Budlong

This reaction made me so happy! Kevin's reaction to Alan Alda was great!! Alan Alda has always been one of my favorite actors ever since watching MASH in High School! 😄

Youtalkingtome

Thanks! When it was clear that the president was still ailing, I was looking for how he was going to cope with it.

Pam Nail

- All I can think with the flag-burning thing is "What would Al Kiefer think?!?!" - "The President can't give me the job I want." ... "His." I have NEVER watched that exchange without my heart racing. What an amazing reveal! - I also love all this musical chairs with who the Dems are going to run, juxtaposed with the introduction of a Republican Goliath. - And we also have the most significant MS plot since Season 2. Sorkin flirted a little with it in S4 on Election Night, but we haven't really dealt with it since. - Though with this plot, Leo's heart attack, and Donna's injury, I always felt like reminding John Wells that ER was his *OTHER* show. - [rot13 for spoilers] V pna uneqyl pbagnva zl tyrr ng ubj rkpvgrq gurl ner nobhg gur cebfcrpg bs n Fnagbf i Ivavpx ryrpgvba pnzcnvta.

Now that the cat is out of the bag (at least one of them), why do we think Alan Alda was not credited in the opening credits. I actually had to go through several episodes further to see where he begins showing up. Also, what's with everyone in the cast showing up in alphabetical order and Martin Sheen and Jimmy Smitts showing up at the end as "WITH Jimmy Smitts and Martin Sheen".. I always thought Martin Sheen enjoyed that honor because he was the president and there is a special presidential drumroll in the music before he gets credited. But, putting Jimmy Smitts as well makes me think there is a different reason. Is anyone more knowledgeable here?

Allison O

I love Alan Alda so much and I’m so glad you guys have gotten to him.

Heather

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who are happy to see Alan Alda show up in stuff and monsters.

Jeff

This is one of the best, most memorable episodes of the season, and even of the entire series. And next week's episode is right up there with it. Your reaction - and predictions - totally lived up to my hope and expectations! It's so fun to be along with you on this ride.

I am a HUGE fan of Alan Alda. This is an amazing treat for me, and I will cherish every episode he is in.

Youtalkingtome

I adore Alan Alda! His story of how he met his wife is one of my favorite celebrity stories of all time.

Daniel Lydford

Television credits are based on contracts, and where a particular actor is on the production call list. In order to get the 'and' before your name it means it was negotiated.

Weird Magic

Everybody here has said so many good things I won't pile on other that to agree with them. They set things up so well for all of these reveals (including the Ed O'Neill red herring) - it's truly great storytelling. I will say though - to say Conservatives don't have a gripe with the liberalism in this show is a biiiiiiiit of a stretch. The flag burning issue (and others throughout the series) are not as black and white as J&K portray (which IS their right to state their opinion - no beef with them saying it, just that as with most issues - it's more nuanced than that) and to come down so hard on one side is to ignore that the other side has points and value to their debate. I hope I haven't gone too political, not trying to start something - I'm about as middle of the road politically as it can get - which is why I don't mind calling out either side if they say preposterousish things :) But I will end with - so happy with your reactions to all of the heavyweights currently added to Season 6. It's going to be a very fun last 36 episodes!

Weird Magic

Met Penn & Teller after one of their shows in Vegas about 7 years ago or so...Teller DOES speak - and he has a German accent :) Originally airing on December 8, 2004, 'In the Room' is Episode 8 of Season 6 of The West Wing. It is the 119th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.3, placing it as the #4 ranked episode of this season and #41 out of all the episodes shown so far.

Brian Harris

Alda is incredible in this show. Career-high for him.

Skinny_Obelix

And people wonder why piracy is back on the rise, after an all-time low when Netflix started...

Skinny_Obelix

He used to be a German teacher, but he doesn't have a German accent. He has the most lovely soft-spoken voice you've ever heard though.

Youtalkingtome

Yes it will be. I'm sure conservatives do take issue with the show. Just saying I think that they do get a fair shake as far as portrayal goes.

Yannick Denis-Trudel

Actually... in season 11 episode 24 of The Big Bang Theory, Teller has a speaking role (albeit brief) as Amy's father (and Kathy Bates is her mother... was a casting there too!)

Yannick Denis-Trudel

After the show ends, please listen to The West Wing Weekly podcast! This episode has a very interesting interview with Penn Jillette about how they got into this episode. This episode's writer Lawrence O'Donnell (he played Jed's father in Two Cathedrals, and yes it's the same guy from MSNBC) actually got Penn & Teller to do their flag burning bit in TWW. Penn's explanation about the right to burn a flag protected by the Bill of Rights is quite enthralling.

Surya Gundavarapu

About Jimmy Smits having better representation, if he actually negotiated his way to better position in credits, I lose a tad bit respect for him. Maybe, I am missing some cultural context on how big of a star he really is, (I have only lived in the US for 15 years now and might not know if LA Law or NYPD Blue in the cult icon status). The numbers show that Alan Alda who won 4 Emmys by his west wing casting is a bigger star than Jimmy Smits (who won only 1 by the West Wing casting). If Alan Alda is okay with a normal treatment, why does Jimmy Smits get special treatment? Dont get me wrong, I am all for demanding all you can get in negotiations, but IMO, displaying some humility when in the company of star power like Martin Sheen and Alan Alda would actually be even more respectful.

Simon Rogers

No biggie guys - I bought it on Apple TV the day you started reacting to it - worth every penny to re-watch with your reaction

Youtalkingtome

Thanks, Simon! And now, at least I own a digital copy of the series and won't be dependent on a streamer for re-watch.

Alex Lee

After all the hassle and cost of buying West Wing (twice) - it's going back to Max today!

Peggy G

I bought the dvd set in order to keep up. Oh well - now I'll be covered the next time they try & take it away from us.

Roland Cooke

I broke out my ancient DVDs, but couldn't get our almost-as-ancient Region 0 DVD player to work. So very glad someone in the hierarchy of MAX realized this was an insane decision and reversed it almost immediately.

Youtalkingtome

Just a terrible idea. No idea why they pulled it off in the first place. I'm really glad it's back. Knowing Warners, I'm sure someone got fired over it.

Balazs Foldes

Gotta say, this episode really reveals some superb post-Sorkin writing - not only in this episode, but in the past couple of ones! They built up Vinnick's character beautifully. Bringing in Baker a few episodes back, as a formidable candiate. Then make him step down - implying that he may have done so because he thought he had no chance against Vinnick! Vinnick is smart, honest, fair, tough... a beautiful character. And played by Alan Alda, whom I've adored since I was a kid watching MASH re-runs! man, Hawkeye Pierce.... The situation of Bartlet and the MS is also phenomenally written. You picked up on more signs quickly than I did on first watch - like Millie being on the flight because of the MS. The general political landscape is just becoming so chaotic and unpredictable and interesing... brilliant! Impatiently looking forward for the next reactions, there are many fun things coming!

Balazs Foldes

I'm just lucky to live in Hungary for this one time - the show never left Max over here! :D I was spared this week or so of despair you guys got. :) OK, I also have the DVDs on my shelf, but it would have been inconvenient to move my laptop over to the TV-DVD room to watch your reactions.

The Inedible Mattman!

Just wanted to let you know ... it looks like West Wing is back on Max. :)

Adam Crandall

As far as Max goes? Bet the boys are not exactly pleased with spending the extra money. Twice. There was over 100k comments on Reddit in less than 48 hours of people that couldn't see the West wing. The mob answered. Most likely they were revamping the logos for the anniversary. And the internet responded hard.

Adam Crandall

Penn and Teller have already explained how they burned the flag. Because Teller has it sealed in his pocket. Protected the entire time with gloves and cloth. And this episode was a call back to it.

Cramdeon1969

Well Done. I can't wait for Episode 9. The 1st time I watched, I got full body chills. My favorite episode of Season 6.

Youtalkingtome

We impatiently awaiting too! Loved Alan Alda in this episode. This is as good as the Sorkin seasons so far. They are not messing around with this season
