Same actress (Dravon James) plays Cutty's old flame Grace, and her sister who reluctantly tells him where to find her.

That kid that was saying, “I’m Omar” on the street. remember that kid.

Yeah the actor who played Cole died between seasons. He was primarily the main producer on the show so he had close relationships with everyone. The wake scene wasn’t much acting.

The kid with braids who looks a little like Wallace that’s been in the background and got beat up by Marlo’s crew is played by the youngest son in the family David Simon spent a year with to write the book the Corner about a year on a Baltimore drug corner. I knew him some through friends working on the wire.

That's really cool. David Simon's firsthand knowledge and research really do shine through and separate this show from other police shows.

Jay's speech had a bunch of references to stuff he (Bob Colesberry) worked on. "Mississippi extraditions/arson murders" = Mississippi Burning "The after hours over on Hudson Street" = After Hours "He took a lotta hot corners and cooled em" = The Corner

Killing Wallace was the only thing that kept Stringer from getting arrested with everyone else in season 1

Roland

Robert Colesberry, who played Ray Cole, was actually a more significant part of the show behind the scenes, as an Executive Producer.

The thing that makes Rawls and Burrell even more infuriating is that not only are they just demanding the impossible, but their approach to law enforcement is exactly why someone like Marvin is so clueless. All they care about is quick clearances to make themselves look good, whether or not they lead to convictions. While the detail was trying to patiently build proper cases that could actually take down some real players, those fools were trying to shortcircuit the process at every turn. To then turn around and expect their commanders to develop a deep knowledge of their districts is the height of hypocrisy. I mean, these are obviously systemic problems that you can't just "police away" (the police probably make a lot of them worse), but if these guys weren't being pressured to focus on surface-level War on Drugs nonsense, they might at least have some idea what was happening on those corners.

Also, that was done with Avon's tacit approval - Stringer was just the guy dealing with the practical side of it. I've seen a lot of people act as if Stringer just ordered that hit on his own initiative.

Robert Bauman

The song at Cole's wake is "Body of an American" by the Pogues. Had never heard it before the show either, but now it automatically plays in my head if I'm ever at an Irish bar haha

steve borden

Stringer was there when levy told them both to take care of loose ends, but yea sure that was all from Avon

I agree completely. "We hate your numbers. Go fix your numbers. Why aren't you fixing your numbers?" And everyone is doing the same color-by-numbers approach, mentioned over and over: "We have flex squads, more hand-to-hands, more overtime." It's insane.
