This has been interesting re-watching this. Watching it originally I definitely had more rose color glasses about Dean from rewatching early season 1 multiple times as I tried to get more people into the show. You noticed the writing. If you see Amy wrote the episode in the credits it’s pretty common for there to be lots of banter which I love. I typically talk fast so this speed or west wing speed is closer to how I think.

They actually had even smaller portable TVs than that back in the 90s. Check out the Sony Watchman, I got one from a yard sale as a kid, more like the size of a large walkie-talkie or an 80s cellphone. Obviously it had a terrible b&w screen and reception and was mostly just a novelty to me. Upgrading from a single bed is definitely one of the first things you want to do if you're out of college and have a decent apartment and want to have a dating life.

"Autumn in New York" is a romance drama from 2000 starring Richard Gere and Winona Ryder. I've never seen it, but apparently it's laughingly bad, earning a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I think my wife and I would be fine in a large bookshop / book market, even if we'd mostly be in different sections. But if either of us dragged the other to our niche store, it wouldn't end well. I think Dean tolerated it faaar longer than was reasonable.

Swifties picked up recently on this particular line : "He's systematically buying up the town. He's gonna turn it into Taylorville, where everyone will wear cardigans and have the same grass height!" (Cardigan being one of Taylor Swift's hits)^^. Their favorite line on the show, probably :D

People often turn on TVs and lights to feel less alone at home. That's what I take away from Jess having to listen to music to fall asleep. He is severely neglected, especially emotionally, his defense is then keeping people at arms length because he's never had anyone to truly rely on. He has learning to do, but the way Lorelai treats him like an adult, not a traumatized kid is always unsettling. It probably stems from the lack of effort Christopher put in as a kid his age, but also Luke isn't that different in his keeping people at arms length but she adores Luke anyway. The writing is interesting, on rewatches I've noticed just how blatant the writing is trying to be with Rory, most don't notice because she's often framed as the innocent doe-eyed do no wrong, but she's got a bit of denial going shown through her interactions with each character. She also shouldn't be that scared of Dean freaking out imo.

I'm with you 1,000% about the cold Chinese food! Crab rangoon and egg rolls are the best right out of the fridge! My husband thinks I'm crazy... but he eats sushi! He's not gotten me to try it, yet! We went back to CT for a visit, right after Easter, and the first place we went was our favorite Chinese restaurant! The Chinese food here in NC isn't any good, at all! No great pizza here either! There are family-run, Greek pizzerias in CT with New York-style pizza! Their grinders are better, too! However, NC has MUCH better barbecue for sure. The only other thing I miss is maple walnut ice cream! They don't carry it anywhere in NC!!! It was awesome to go home to my own little Stars Hollow-like town for a week, and to visit with family! However, it's gonna take months to get all the weight off that we gained on our trip!

There's a good kid in Jess but my gosh does he have a short fuse. He doesn't try to be polite and is super rude. And it's always irked me that Lorelai never threw it in jess's face on how he knew that the bracelet had been missing for two weeks, cause they never knew when it went missing. The more times I rewatch the more I dislike Jess. Rory really needs to stop lying to herself and her mom and admit that she's obsessed with Jess. Dean doesn't deserve being stringed along like that. Also!!! Someone needs to be STOP Taylor Doose!!!!!!

Not that she should be scared of Dean but he is just a lot when he gets like that. We don't think he would hurt her but she shouldn't have to coddle him. Also having the TV on is one thing, his music was a lot lol.

Jess could have just said "oh, I found it by the bridge and didn't know it was yours" or "I found it after the basket thing and forgot to give it back to you". So many excuses and yet he sneaks into their house

I agree. He handled that as poorly as he could have. Lorelai overreacted, but I completely understand why she came to the conclusions she did.
