That Gilmore temper... They've all got it. Richard at the debutante ball or confronting Dean. Lorelei today or with the fridge guys or confronting Emily over her engagement. The First Lorelei taking away Rory's inheritance because E & L were bickering at tea! Emily allll the time. Makes for fantastic writing but yeah, they are a lot. A lot, a lot.

Wait until you see the family dynamics of The Bear.... 🤩

Roland

Christopher going on about an irresponsible teenage boy....was that supposed to be ironic?

🎶 You take the good. You take the bad. You take them both and there you have The Facts of Life. The Facts of Life...🎶 George Clooney owes that man his career! 🤣

It's Lorelai's fault for not being more upfront with Luke about how she feels about the tutoring thing, and Jess in general, it's Jess's fault for manipulating Rory into going for ice cream, and it's Rory's fault for allowing herself to be manipulated... I don't think it's fair at all to blame Jess for all of this. Especially the car. If they swirved for an animal... well then it really doesn't matter who is driving. Accidents do happen. Edit: Not that you guys did, I just feel like people in general tend to look at outcomes and attribute blame to where it doesn't belong just cause well we have to blame someone. Yeah, probably wasn't the smartest move to go for ice cream instead of studying, but there's no way to predict that doing that would lead to broken wrists and crashed cars.

A great dramatic episode. With the end of the season near, you just know something big would happen. How do you deal with a kid like Jess when he's completely unresponsive to help. It's a tough situation all around. I love to see how Rory is growing too, making mistakes and getting a little bit bad. It's just a part of growing up.

Youtalkingtome

I agree. It was a messy and sad incident all the way around, and they way people in Stars Hollow reacted to it after it happened didn't help at all (including Christopher).

Youtalkingtome

Absolutely! Maybe he is just saying what he thinks Lorelai wants to hear, but that was rich coming from him.

Jess being a punk...it must be *Monday. Rory ain't innocent, so some of my annoyance is probably related to her liking the slimeball. But he's still a slimeball. I wish the show could have found another way to foster conflict...like hardcore drug use or Rory becoming a vegetarian. *I know it's technically Tuesday, but for the joke...

First off, everyone hates Jess? I did not get that memo, he's one of my favorite characters on this show. 😊 Second, how come no one ever asks why Dean is not breaking up with Rory? It's always Rory should break up with Dean (which she definitely should, she's not a good girlfriend and Dean is not a good boyfriend) but never is Dean questioned on why he stays in the relationship. I mean he knows Rory likes Jess and vice versa but he chooses to stay with her. Third, no one was at that diner to study, which is why Rory didn't get up to leave. She wanted to hang out with Jess (studying or not) and Jess wanted to hang out with her. Rory was given a perfect cover/excuse to hang out with him and she took it, she wasn't manipulated, this is just their way of flirting right now because Rory is still in a relationship. Fourth, I really did not like Lorelai at all in this episode, this is the episode i think that makes you realize just how toxic and delusional she can be with her own daughter. This might be a stretch, but I think one of the reasons Rory has not broken up with Dean is because her mother loves Dean and hates Jess and Rory has never broken up with anyone before. But instead of helping Rory by telling her that it's okay to like someone else and that breakups happen, but it's not okay to act this way while in a relationship, she's just in complete denial and want's her daughter to keep dating the guy she likes and not the guy Rory likes, and she's making Rory feel bad for liking Jess. She's also created this image of Rory that she's an angel that can't do nothing wrong and is always a good girl with good grades etc. and I think Rory is slowly coming out of her shell and want's to find out who she is and what she likes and doesn't like, and the person she is discovering might not be the perfect girl her mother makes her out to be which I think is hard for Rory to except (and for Lorelai). So I think part of the reason she's keeping Dean around is because she doesn't want to let go of the person her mother want's her to be/thinks she is, and she simply doesn't know how to break up with someone. Okay, rant over.😄 Thank you for reacting to this show, it was one of my favorite shows when I was younger and I've watch it so many times. I really enjoy your reactions, even if I sometimes disagree your opinions.😅

Hey no worries! Disagree all you want lol actually I think we agree on several things in this episode. It wasn't Lorelei's best moment and I think Rory has some blame here too. I just think Jess was a lot this episode. He really needs to work through some stuff and I'm sure we will get to it. Anyways feel free to rant anytime, I really like your perspective on the situation.

And Kirk's film rules.

As a fan of the show and a Jess apologist, this is an episode I was looking forward to and I have so much to say. Rory is not being manipulated. I think she enjoys spending time with Jess. She's just in denial right now, about her feelings for him and the fact that she doesn't love Dean anymore. I think she's just so scared of disappointing her mom (can you blame her?) and being a bad girlfriend to Dean (who I do feel bad for here, even though as someone else pointed out, nothing's stopping him from breaking up with Rory). So clearly Rory is hurting Dean in this whole process, whether that's her intention or not, and that's unfair to him. I still have so much empathy for her as she's figuring all this out. You guys said we were seeing the worst side of Jess, in the car, but I disagree. I think he was actually being earnest, for once. I don't blame him for wanting to spend time with the only person in town who he can be himself with and who he actually likes spending time with. I understand why he ran away from the accident too. I would be scared to face the town, and especially Lorelai. People already saw him as a villain, this would make it so much worse. And as flawed as Jess is, I cannot help but feel bad for this kid. While I understand why people don't like him, I think we forget that change takes time. Even if he has made some progress, thanks to Luke and Rory, he's probably had years before that of people not believing he would ever amount to anything. That takes some time to undo. I wish he had been extended more grace when he first got to Stars Hollow. I'm sad he felt he had to leave. Then there's Lorelai's reaction, which I agree went too far and was out of line. She's ignoring Rory's responsibility in the situation (not necessarily the accident, more so the whole study night thing and the fact that she has feelings for Jess). Rory can do no wrong in her eyes, she can only be corrupted. We've seen it before, but here it's pretty obvious she sees herself in Rory. I know she's scared, and that's okay, that's normal, but it doesn't mean she's right. She just totally disregards Luke's feelings and of course she feels that all of her worst suspicions about Jess were just confirmed. It's so hard for her to see Rory as a kid with her own shortcomings and flaws.

Yasemin

Very much agree! Rory is in denial about her feelings; Jess is not the villain, and Lorelai went too far; it was unfair to Luke who had to make sure Jess was OK, too, and all he ever got was Lorelai screaming at him.

Danielle

I'm not a Team Jess or Dean person, but I hate the way Lorelai looks down on the kid. She thinks her life was so hard and she had serious problems but when confronted someone whose life has actually been hard and has real problems she has no empathy or compassion or rope for him. She really has no concept of someone being dealt a shitty hand and feeling angry and disillusioned by that. She's never, ever had an actual shitty hand in life; she simply thinks she has. She absolutely put the blame on Luke, on Jess, on everybody else but Rory. She acted as if Rory has no agency whatsoever beyond just doing the right thing. But Rory can screw up and it's annoying it never even crossed her mind to ask how they even got into the situation in the first place, it was automatically Jess' fault. Rory is into Jess; the only person who doesn't seem to know that is Luke. Seriously. Rory knows. She's not in denial; she just doesn't want to acknowledge it because the truth of that admission would complicate her life and she's a confrontation avoider. I agree completely with someone else's comment that she doesn't know how to break up with Dean because she's never done it before and she doesn't want to be "the bad guy" for breaking up with someone who hasn't done anything, she's just not interested in any more, and she doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings or do the wrong thing but I also feel like her mom and Dean are good at manipulating her into thinking she's going to "get through" this feeling and that it's temporary instead of helping her to come to terms with how she's actually feeling and encouraging her to do what's best for her. And because her mom keeps pushing the relationship she doesn't want to let her down. Dean could absolutely break up with Rory. He doesn't want to so he doesn't. They are both just prolonging a relationship where she's not 100 percent in anymore and they don't know how to get out of it because he doesn't want to b/c he's still into her and she wants to but doesn't know how to do it without hurt feelings or disappointment (which, in a breakup, is nearly impossible). So they're stuck until one of them steps up and admits the truth of the situation.
