Hey, guys! We have simply been failing on our end to match supply with demand. Due to watch time and especially editing time, we can't put movie reactions up any faster than we are. You are paying so far up front for films (as of right now, we are scheduled into February, and every week we just keep getting farther behind), so we are raising the price on movie purchases. You have all been wonderfully patient as we have worked through your film requests, and we look just as much forward to doing so in the future. As coy as it sounds, it really isn't about the money at all, but our inability to keep up with volume. We appreciate each and every one of you. Any films already in the queue that have been purchased will be unaffected. Thank you again for being here with us!

Joe and Kevin: If you were to keep a google doc or other spreadsheet like tool and link to an "evergreen" version in your pinned post, Patrons could see what you have already reacted to AND what is in the queue in real time AND you could ALSO track how many requests each of us has made by putting their PAtreon "handle" in an extra column. That would allow you to start an "honor system" where we self regulate our request totals. I support another channel that does single song and full album music reactions to classic rock that they have never heard and the two guys on there (who are close to your age late 20s) do just that with a Google spreadsheet (without the count tracker). They track their YouTube free reactions and their Tiered Patreon exclusives with that system They had one of their bored Patrons volunteer watch every video on their channel and make the list from scratch and posted it so users could send in omissions and fixes on their discord server ....I'm not volunteering for that job! BUT assume you probably HAVE such a tool by now since you are approaching 200+ movie reactions and don't have 6 years of free YT content to track so it might be easy for you to build a 200 line list

Oof, I personally can't justify 1-2 movies a year at that price point, but it makes total sense. I'll just continue enjoying your great commentary to a bunch of my favorite shows ever every week, as well as others' great movie picks, that you put way more work and insight into than other channels that do this as a full-time job.

The price Increase is ok with me. I was planning on requesting a few next year and still will. You have been good at making everyone understand how many you can do and as long as everyone is ok with it the backlog shouldn’t be an issue. Knowing so many great movies are coming is also a good marketing tool for people considering joining the Patreon. I do think some of the movies could be skipped from YouTube edits to lower the work load on you. Especially the musicals since you have to mute so much anyway. We all really appreciate all that you do and salute the amount of work you put in.

I've been thinking you should raise it for a while now. There's a thing in restaurants where you price things based on ingredient cost, AND how much of a chore it is to make. You have to put up a roadblock that keeps people from ordering something that slows the rest of the kitchen down, and that list was becoming ginormous.

Ok, I probably shouldn’t betray my ignorance here, but I’m having difficulty wrapping my head around this. Before, the movies were $105, and now they’re $143? So, prior to this increase, every movie on that list got there because someone paid a little over $100 to put it there? And there were so many people willing to pay that much that there’s a 4 month backlog? I mean, maybe a 40% increase in price will help, but people seem to be willing to invest a lot already, so I’m thinking a moratorium is really what’s in order. I’d say use the extra money to hire an editor or spend it on anything else that will make this more manageable.

I knew this was coming and, frankly, I am disappointed. You'll only get rich people's movie choices this way. You're effectively putting a class cap on the stories you are interested in. There are better ways to do this.

Lola Lirola

Yeah, exactly. Or put a cap on how many movie slots someone can buy in the year. Or do a randomized bid (say, people who want to purchase during the month apply for a slot, a randomized roulette picks however many numbers you can watch, those get paid for, start over the following month)... There are better options than leaving people behind.

Very understandable, there was no way I could use that kind of money on things like this before and probably won't be for the next few years, especially not now with a higher price. I feel like there must be a better way to do it than raising the price though? You are the only channel I have come across that actually watch the good and intersting movies and have a lot of knowledge. I would hate to loose that just because "money rules". I am worried we would get the same films as every other reactor watches. Maybe hire and editor? And add som kind of draw each week for us poor folks to enter? That would make sure variation is still there. Maybe do more movies and less tv-series? To be honest I almost only watch you movies, so might be a bit bias here. I understand if those are your bread and butter. That said I am enjoying the channel a lot now 😊

Sadly I see that problem too. Unemployed with a family there is just no way I can use that kind of money on this for years. It is effectively a week of food for my family.

Makes sense to me! I've done one purchase last March, and will probably do another one this coming March. Don't overwork yourselves, make sure to take breaks! Especially with the holiday season coming up.

That's totally fine by me. I'm only here for Buffy and Band of Brothers to be honest aha . I don't know how people can lay down that kind of money just for a reaction but good for you guys

I used to work on the sales software for event ticketing, and there was a similar thing that say Taylor Swift would price her cheapest tickets at maybe $400 but there were far more people willing to pay much more than $400 than there were $400 tickets available, so scalpers would buy the $400 tickets the second they went on sale with automated software, then resell them for the actual prices market demand forces allowed. There's more people willing to pay $75 for Joe and Kevin's reactions per month than they have time to watch movies in a month, atm there's not an easy way to resell those slots but it's an otherwise similar thing.

Maybe if there's a movie you really want them to react to, there should be a thread somewhere so other patreon members that want them to react to that same movie can find one another and split the price? I know that wouldn't slow demand, but it might help fill the list with movies that multiple patreons want to see? I mean, I would've happily thrown in some money for many of the selections currently on the wait list. 🤷‍♀️ Just an idea.
