Balazs Foldes

Yay, the watch-along video worked for me this week! I like big Joes&Kevins on my laptop screen. Anyway, do you guys remember the episode 17 People? From West Wing? It's the one starting with Toby throwing the ball from eveing to evening, and slowly realizing the thing about Bartlet's helath. It's also the episode where a bunch of the rest of the staff stay in the office after hours, to brainstorm funny ideas for the Correspondets' Dinner, because te writers forgot to bring the funny. So, I think that was probably the first Sorkin episode like this: the main cast staying in the workplace after hours, in an empty building, with no extras (except for the beginning of the episode). I think they told me, Sorkin was forced to do that episode because he was running over budgets way too much, and he had to write that almost theatre-like one , with the existing sets, no external scenes, and just with the main cast. And I think he liked the theatre play format so much, he was doing it from time to time again. This is exactly an episode like that. After the show, the producers, the network boss, and the three main cast of the show (+the director) stays in and just has conversations. Sorkin can really do his dialogue writing festish, and he is so good with witty conversation. I really like this episode.

Oh yeah Sorkin is infamous for not playing well with other writers, it's why he has issues with writing TV - particularly when he was working on West Wing. The upside is the whole show has one voice which is arguably what makes his stuff great. I don't think the Ricky/Ron thing is they think they are better, I think they see it as just a job where they can throw out scripts like they're working at Starbucks making coffee, which I feel like writing can also be. On Rob Corddry did you ever see Ballers? I feel like you might have name-dropped it before, but I don't recall.

17 People was one of my favorite WW episodes. For sure, this was an exceptional episode for this show.
