I've been stung by a wasp!

I'm loving the binge! You might as well go ahead and call the protagonist Fleabag, it's what everybody does, and we're clearly invited to do so.

I was just about to go to bed, when up popped the notification that you had posted this reaction, so of course I had to watch it right away. I think this is my favourite episode of season 1. I love Fleabag’s interactions with Claire and how obvious it is that they love one another. And the conversation between Fleabag and the bank guy is really quite beautiful. When she tells him that she just wants to cry all the time, it feels like she has taken a massive step in just admitting that to someone. She’s such a complex, well written character and, as you said, the more we get to know her, the more we are able to empathize with her. Really enjoyed your discussion as always, thanks guys!

My supervisor just went to a 5 day silent retreat, and when she was telling me about it, all I could hear in my head was a distant cry of "Sluuuttt!!!" But obviously I couldn't explain to her why I was so amused.

This time around I spotted that Claire's message on the chalkboard was written in perfect cursive...BECAUSE OF COURSE IT WAS. :D

Oof, that smoking (pun?) conversation with her and the bank guy . . . When it started I had just been thinking, “Oh hey, Hugh Dennis (the actor) is back! Fun.” I’ve only ever seen him do comedic/lighthearted stuff before, so I really wasn’t expecting that scene from him. And what a scene — they both nailed it, and Hugh’s monologue in particular (which I know she wrote) was so poignant. When he said why he was there I wanted to hate him so bad, and while this speech alone isn’t enough to redeem him, it does genuinely make me believe that there’s hope that he can be the better man he wants to be.

I agree, people who commit heinous acts should be punished but if they show remorse and are willing to change to better themselves and everyone around them, I think they should be given the opportunity. Also isn't it funny how comedians tend to give the best performances!

That scene is indeed riveting. Its honesty comes out of nowhere. It's so unrushed and unflashy. It's the kind of thing you usually get in the theatre, and the kind of thing that usually gets ruined in screen adaptations if you get stuck with a director that thinks they need to "fix" stuff written for the stage. It's just human beings being truthful. That will always be riveting. Let it be. And I'm glad they did :)
