I think we need to see your very cute dog at some point. This episode reminded me how tension-filled every single episode is, and how I was always surprised by the direction of the story and the choices of the characters. And by the way, the next episode was directed by Adam Arkin, who played Josh's trauma therapist in The West Wing episode "Noel." He's also one of the producers on this show.

"So we're kind of winding down on Season One..." Winding down? Riiiiight. :D

We know from the famous wall of stars in the lobby of the CIA that many CIA agents have been killed in the line of duty over the decades, and presumably some number of FBI agents involved in counter-intelligence. But overt tit-for-tat assassinations seems a dangerous game - that way lies World War Three, like you mentioned. There's a fantastic book by a Houston lawyer (Michael Pullara) who made it his mission in life to investigate the murder of a CIA agent in (Soviet) Georgia, whom the local authorities had pinned on a nobody soldier. With amazing diligence and tenacity Pullara identified the real culprits, KGB agents acting way outside their boundaries. (sound familiar?! :D ) I was fortunate enough to be at a reading that Pullara gave at the book launch tour a few years ago, and at the Q&A I asked whether or not there were any repercussions (i.e. revenge by the CIA) as a result of his findings. Pullara said that as far as quiet repercussions or side-deals, who knows, but he was sure there weren't any overt ones.... "because that ends in World War Three". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Woodruff https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/shows/houston-matters/2019/01/29/319426/how-a-houston-attorney-unearthed-a-conspiracy-to-murder-an-american-spy/ https://www.amazon.com/The-Spy-Who-Was-Left-Behind-audiobook/dp/B07FYRRTHN/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1XCATZYH7Z972&keywords=the+spy+who+was+left+behind&qid=1697814237&sprefix=the+spy+who+was+left+behind%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-1

Pretty sure in episodes 3, 4, 5 and 6 there was a prediction that Nina wasn't going to last long....episode 9...still going :) Originally airing on April 3, 2013, 'Safe House' is Episode 9 of Season 1 of The Americans. It is the 9th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.4, placing it as the #3 ranked episode of this season and #2 out of all the episodes shown so far.

I love that connection to WW! He's an old doggo and I doubt that he will come up on the couch! I'll take some pictures of the whole gang and upload them to Patreon soon!

Well maybe it's coming! I hate to be morbid but Chris is gone, I don't know maybe her dying is too obvious.

In relation to characters coming and going (Nina unexpectedly surviving, so far at least) and others leaving the show out of the blue (Amador bleeding out in a basement) this show is simultaneously both fantastic in repeatedly taking you by surprise, and also brilliantly restrained that you aren't rolling your eyes at the latest in a long line of redshirts getting bumped off. There's one or two storylines / characters that don't really work (cf The West Wing's Mandy character), but those are pretty few and far between, and not necessarily agreed by everybody. What I will say is that many of the show's favorite characters - including one that isn't human :D - are yet to appear. :)
