Hello yeah lets go!!

Echo Moon

So happy this dropped. Gonna get into it right now!! Yay.

Perry Taliaferro

That intro had me checking my own audio volume there for a minute :D

Maxx

Evil dead next? 😈

Maxx

The horror reactions are my favorite, im sorry 🤣

Violet

I love it!!!!!🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸

Krispy Applejax

Silence of the Lambs is not horror, FYI. You'd probably love it.

Harold Wright

Mike, I agree with you, I remember that old ventriquist doll flick. Saw it when I was younger. Scarring lol.

Kevlar

greatest thing to happen this week

Violet

EXACTLY!!!! It's an actual thriller and one of the best movies of ALL TIME!

Dan

Someone has to ask it. Do vampires poop?

Heather M Santell

You should read the book. The book is great also. It also will be helpful to read it to understand Renfield.

Jordan Tanner

y’all have to do Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024) next! 🧛🏻‍♂️

Donna Coffman

The most beautiful and heartbreaking Gothic love story of our time. This masterpiece never gets enough credit in cinematic history. Everything about it is absolutely decadent and sumptuous...the score, the costumes, the scenery, the hair, the sensuality, the ACTORS, all of it. Annie Lennox's song for the end credits, "Love Song For A Vampire" still haunts and moves me to this day. Every woman wants to be loved like this. He most literally moved through space and time to find her. Swoon. 💕

Michelle Margiotta

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Gary Oldman is intoxicating, Winona Ryder is stunning, and Sir Anthony Hopkins is delightfully unhinged. I also blame, “I have crossed oceans of time to find you,” as the reason why my relationship expectations are on Saturn. Give me that or NOTHING 🤣 Also, Sean, your one liners in your commentary were on point. “Why is he dressed like Bea Arthur?” 😂😂

Choncho

The blue flames are in the book, and if I recall correctly they indicate where treasure is buried (in proximity of a vampire). also LMAO at Sean's first facial reaction to Keanu Reeve's accent

I think, and I hope what you guys are noticing with the horror genre, is that it has the power to be the most cinematic and artfully executed genre in the medium. What Francis Ford Coppola did here is one of the better examples of that. Horror isn’t a dirty word. Now full disclosure, I am a horror fan. I love the slashers like Friday The 13th all the way up to an artistic masterpiece like Bram Stokers Dracula — but my appreciation is deeper than the blood. I love seeing non-horror fans realize the creativity and purely cinema driven choices that go into these. There weren’t any dramas or traditionally prestige films that came out in 1992 that even compared to this. Nor Kubricks The Shining, or indeed William Friedkins The Exorcist. These films are stone cold masterpieces of filmmaking that truly move the audience through both technique and a means to release and process our own fears, and in the safe space of our own home or the cinema. That’s what horror films do. As Wes Craven once said, “these movies don’t create fear: they release it.” Hence Mikes intense reaction to the religious imagery in fighting the demonic. I bet without even consciously realizing, he feels psychologically better after these films are over because they allow you to expel that pressure. I forget his name, but a more recent horror director said he got letters from troops overseas how much they all enjoyed his movie because they were screaming in terror together. He asked “I don’t understand. You guys see real-life horror I can’t even comprehend. My movies are nothing.” The guys replied that that’s exactly the point. They aren’t allowed to walk around screaming. They have to keep all of that horror *inside*. His film allowed them relief. To release all of that energy. It’s not just a greatly stylistic and artistically free genre, it’s one of the most important. It’s not a force of darkness; it just shines a spotlight on it so we can better deal with it, including managing the darkness within ourselves. It’s honest. The last thing it is: a dirty word. This is a horror film. They’re just as important as any other genre. In my estimation? Maybe the most lately. Obsession being the single most profitable original film of all time really isn’t an accident (before this, Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project — long before those, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from 1974). We saw ourselves, and they told us to be careful.

Oh, this movie brings back memories. I still remember it. I saw it for the first time when I was 13, and I admit I fell asleep after 30 minutes and missed the rest. I found the movie totally boring, back then. Later, as an adult, I don't recall exactly when, I watched it again and really learned to appreciate it. You need a certain level of maturity for this movie. Only then can you truly enjoy and understand it. And I agree with you guys: Gary Oldman’s performance is fantastic, but horror movies are very, very rarely recognized at the Oscars, regardless of how good the acting was. It’s a shame, really. But fortunately, he has since won his Oscar for the many fantastic films he’s starred in. And I think it’s cool that, as a VIP, though sadly only an MSP, I’m one year shy of OG status. I was able to enjoy the whole thing in full, without commercials, with the two of you two weeks early. Thanks a lot, guys. You’re the best.

Mudge Pendragon

Wild little pattern I picked up while watching this — Keanu has played more “Johns” than anyone seems to remember. Johnny Utah in Point Break (1991) Jonathan Harker in Dracula (1992) Johnny Mnemonic in Johnny Mnemonic (1995) John Constantine in John Constantine (2005) And of course the most iconic one: John Wick It’s like every era of Keanu comes with a new John archetype — surfer John, Victorian John, cyberpunk John, mythic assassin John. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Also, tiny lore detail I didn’t remember until this watch: the movie actually does mention the Demeter, the ship Dracula uses to travel to England in the original 1897 novel. It’s super quick in the ’92 film, almost background lore — but it’s the same ship that the 2023 horror film “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is based on. Would love to see you guys react to that one someday, because it’s literally a full movie built out of one eerie chapter from the original Dracula story.

Perry Taliaferro

Sean, I know you have to blur some scenes, but my man, haha, you keep blurring the spots where you get excited or freaked out!! Let us see those at least, my man. Ha And Mike - "I've never seen a Dracula movie" You should check out Interview with a Vampire. It isn't a "Dracula" movie, but is a vampire one, though not as scary. It does have a couple actors you may (or may not) enjoy!!

MomzillaAngie

Oh what a masterpiece! Gary Oldman is just delicious I want to eat him up with a spoon. I haven't seen this since it came out. I also regret it slipped by me all this time. It so looks like subsequent vampire shows and movies were inspired and styled after this movie. The top hat and colored glasses. The feel. And of course, SEE ME (copied in What They Do In the Shadows - movie).

MomzillaAngie

Tom Waits as Renfield! Oh chef's kiss!

MomzillaAngie

Good question. I'm thinking no. They just drink blood for regeneration and no actual food so no digestion. Maybe it would come out all pink like one of those strawberry tootsie rolls though. Hm

Perry Taliaferro

Silence of the Lambs is NOT horror. It is one of the best thrillers around. And by thriller, I don't mean horror. Haha

Jane at Home

I forgot how gorgeous the music is in this. Perfect.

nickyc777

How dare you shout at Shaun lol... What "compelled" him to do that :)

nickyc777

If there are any Vampires in the comments who would like to turn me and have a pet Nicky, I leave my window open even in winter, I also have a cat too and he would also make an amazing vampire. Just saying :)

carrot

There was no cgi in this film all the effects were practical, miniatures and done in camera or using cell/film techniques of old! Giving it a unique feel & look!

Jane at Home

I forgot Cary Elwes and Richard E. Grant were in this.

Dana Bauerlein

MSP OG here! My girlfriends and I watched it when it came out. As people with a theatre background, we sort of took it for what it was. Horrible accents by Win and Keanu. Watch for "a CLOCK in a law firm". Overacting for SURE by GO. But sexy, spooky, great fun! A classic that can't be ignored. Always a fantastic one to watch reactions to because opinions are SO all over the place! Some fun names in the lesser cast!

Melanie D

I agree! Mike, cross my heart, I am not trying to mislead you. 😅 It definitely has some horrific aspects, but I'd say it's in a similar way to how Se7en had horrific elements. And there's nothing supernatural/demonic about it. AND there's a redhead in it. 🤭👩🏻‍🦰😉

Sarah_M

This was my first watch of this movie. I don't know that the gothic horror genre is 'for me' personally, but this was an excellent example of the quality they often deliver.

SamlovesWillow

Ah, the film were we all fell in love with Gary Oldman. It's such a beautifully done film and I personally find myself feeling sorry for Dracula at the end.

Dawn

In the show Interview with the Vampire, they pee red. Great show!

Dawn

Silence of the Lambs is an AMAZING movie and IS NOT a horror movie. Se7en is worse imo and y’all liked that. Please give it a shot!

A Romanian named Andrei

Hi! It’s your resident Romanian! Fun fact: Vlad, the man identified as Dracula, is considered a hero in Romania. Transylvania, which is a region of Romania, would have been invaded by Ottomans were it not for Vlad. His real story is genuinely pretty wild. - Game of Thrones level stuff. I have to say I appreciated this movie for at least including some real Romanian speakers. Some of what Gary Oldman says in “Romanian” is pretty hilarious. (

marc

Mikey: " This is my last Dracula movie" Me - Try Dracula - Dead and Loving it by Mel Brooks Seriously guys, you are missing out - Told you to watch Spaceballs after Mikey saw Alien as well.

CaptainMaakasu

It's been so long since I watched this and it's better than I remember, however it's not my favorite Dracula adaptation/story. I prefer the Dracula 2020 mini-series (only 3 episodes) and I love the underrated Dracula Untold 2014 movie ^^

IntrrepidMrRico

Please don't let this be the last Dracula movie... I beg you to react to the 1931 Bela Lugosi classic!

Vero Chile

Totally. It’s a smart serial killer film.

RobandMirina

Sean, you most probably would love Immortal Beloved. It came out a few years after this, and also stars Gary Oldman as Beethoven.

Gregory B Aucoin

Side note that red armor he wore was up for auction a couple years back, I bid on it at first, it skyrocketed to like 87K.

Pharazul

I'd be interested to see your take on Robert Eggers' Nosferatu. Both stories are adapted from Stoker's novel. Though heavily modified from the source material, the filmmakers were sued by Stoker's widow over copyright claim. The two films are very different interpretations of vampire lore.
