One Battle After Another was my first PTA movie, so let's watch another one! Help me choose a movie to watch next!

Happy Tuesday, Addie. Let's boogie to the Boogie Nights (1997). Another PT Anderson movie that I'm also eager to see is There Will Be Blood (2007).

KingGoji94

There will be blood is incredible

Jon Anderson

I love Magnolia, though you need to strap yourself in, it's properly operatic.

YoureMrLebowski

Maybe they'll tie and she'll watch both. I think that's the rule.

Philip Davetas

Cool, were gonna watch Addie watch porn.

Scott Bergstrom

Boogie Nights is one of my favorite 90s movies

Hunter DeRensis

I'm pulling for There Will Be Blood, one of the greatest films of the 21st century, but truly at least six of these films deserve a watch. They're masterpieces.

Luis Fernandez

Not a big PTA fan - the only one I really liked was Boogie Nights.

Chris

There Will Be Blood is one of the greatest films of all time (imo)

Jason Pratt

Scrolling, that made me do a spit/choke take. Well done.

Pendragon1951

I will abstain, not a fan at all

Speaking of directors polls... Addie it would be great if at some point you could do a poll with David Fincher's movies. There are great films you haven't watched yet. (The Game. Panic Room. The girl with the dragon tattoo. Gone Girl. Alien 3. Benjamin Button)

Randee Carreno

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 Great poll for today. "Boogie Nights" easily got my vote. Have a great day today! 😊

Baldemort

Addie heads up, Boogie nights is a film about the porn industry and as such, a lot of hard sex and provacative scenes in it. Otherwise a great film, but just a heads up is all. Essentially it will be 2hrs of us watching you watch what is pretty much porn 😂

Julian San

Man, I can’t wait for the Paul W.S. Anderson poll! 😂

Doug

Ooh, Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood are two of my favorite films, and it looks like they're both in the lead. Awesome! 😊

Doug

Heck, she's already watched Poor Things and South Park and puppet love making in Team America, Boogie Nights will be fine. 👍

No surprise the dong movie is winning.

Pretty thematically ironic that BOOGIE NIGHTS is winning. Leonardo DiCaprio was originally slated to play the lead role in this film but was forced to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts with TITANIC which released the same year. Leo mentioned back then that turning that down was one of his biggest regrets (he has since come to terms with it) and PTA became one of the people he wanted to most work with, which finally happened with ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. BOOGIE NIGHTS was PTA's first Oscar nomination, and he had to endure 11 Oscar nomination LOSSES in total before finally winning 3 Oscars in 1 night for ONE BATTLE, which were his 12th, 13th, and 14th nominations respectively (Adapted Screenplay, Director, and Picture). He was nominated in the EXACT SAME 3 categories for THERE WILL BE BLOOD and lost all 3 to the Coen brothers for NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

TWBB is one of the greatest films, losing the Oscar only to the Coen's No Country for Old Men. After that, there is no dud on this list. I voted for Magnolia because it contains great performances from a great ensemble cast, and maybe Tom Cruise's greatest acting performance ever.

She’s a grown woman in a long term relationship, she can handle it

The best part is that PTA became the 6th person overall and first person since the Coens to win the exact same 3 categories they did (Adapted Screenplay, Director, and Picture). One interesting parallel is how PTA was the younger guy back in 2007 and he lost to the veterans (Coens) that year, and this year PTA was the veteran and he beat the younger director (Ryan Coogler for SINNERS). There are 6 others who also won Screenplay, Director, and Picture, but they all won Original Screenplay (Billy Wilder, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Bong Joon-ho, the Daniels, and Sean Baker).
