Here's the full length reaction to ROCKY!! I've been recommended this movie time and time again, so we're starting 2024 with Rocky :) I was expecting the whole movie to revolve around boxing, but I didn't expect Rocky to be such a loveable character! I certainly didn't expect a love story either! This is such a special movie, and I can see why it won Best Picture. Enjoy!

Happy Wednesday, Addie. Rocky (1976) is one of my favorite sports movies. My favorite shot in the movie is when Rocky runs up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art in victory. That scene was shot with a Steadicam, the same camera stabilizer that would eventually be used in The Shining (1980). It's also neat to see a younger Carl Weathers in this movie as well. It's also a love story between a southpaw boxer and a pet store clerk.

Randolph Tirazona

And why it's highly regarded! Rocky 2 is much better 😋

Philip Davetas

I love all these movies. ROCKY V is rough, but I still dig it. When it comes to ROCKY IV though, there are two unique versions. The theatrical cut and the restored directors cut. The theatrical cut is a movie and the director's cut is a legit film.

PHILLIP CORNISH

Only one thing comes to mind with this classic. "Yoo Adrian!!" 😀

Randee Carreno

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 Welcome to the Rocky-verse!!!! I really hope that you watch all of the Rocky/Creed movies. They all end up connecting in some way. There's six Rocky films(the sixth Rocky movie is entitled "Rocky Balboa", but it is the sixth movie) & there are three Creed movies. Fun Fact: Sylvester Stallone wrote the entire screenplay for this movie in three and a half days. I love the training montages in these movies. Besides the training montage, the scene with Rocky and Adrian at the ice rink is my favorite scene. Apollo Creed is one of my favorite Carl Weathers movie roles. So excited to watch this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

Alex Tan

Me too, Randee. The training montage is my favorite scene in this movie, especially because of the cinematography with the Steadicam, which would also be used in The Shining (1980).

Mr. Writhms

"Ay yo, Addie. This choice is uh-- almost pretty good. You should uh-- check out like-- the whole franchise. It's like-- a 'knockout'. Heh... See what I did there? Oh... Except for like uh-- Rocky Vee. Uh-- five. It's a little uh-- punchy. Heh heh..."

Alex Tan

LOL 🤣🤣 Now that's a good one, @Mr. Writhms.

LightsCameraJake

Addie the 2nd and 3rd movies are better than the last. Tbh the whole series is worth a watch. There are some weaker films but none of them are dissappinting. I want to encourage you to at the very least watch the first 3 films where the series absolutely shines :)

Luis Fernandez

The thing about the Rocky movies is that the characters are so likable, they are able to carry the movie and make it enjoyable even when the story isn't great (I'm looking at you, Rocky V). This carries over to the Creed series, but to me they didn't do enough development of the new characters because by the time Creed III rolled around, I didn't care for the story and the characters themselves didn't hold my interest.

Luis Fernandez

Some quick boxing basics: Before the 80s, matches used to be 15 rounds. This was reduced to 12 for the sake of the fighters (a tragic death led to the rule change). Fights could stop due to a knockout, the referee stopping the fight, the doctor stopping the fight, or a boxer (or his corner) stopping the fight. Fights that are not stopped are said to "go the distance", and the outcome is then decided by the ringside judges. Sometimes this leads to controversy.

Randolph Tirazona

"Rocky is a love story about a guy who's a broken-down fighter."

Ed Garland

I really hope you continue to watch the whole franchise ( 1-5, then Rocky Balboa, then Creed and so on ) . I know some will say avoid Rocky V , but I think it would be good to experience the entire story , highs and lows . Hope to see the next installment very soon! Thank you 😊

The Dingo

First time I've seen this movie; I always thought I had seen it and didn't like it, but I was wrong. Nothing was familiar at all LOL And I ended up liking it

Steve SG-1

I just did chin ups and some squats after watching the training montage, LOL.

Joe Mallard

So excited for you to dive into one of the most iconic characters of all time, Rocky will never die! You should definitely continue the series.

Joe Mallard

Rocky 4 is widely regarded as the most popular, not sure where you came up with that assumption.

Alex Tan

Rocky (1976) & Raging Bull (1980) are both about boxers and about boxing as well.

Alex Tan

The main difference between the two.

Doug

Rocky is such a fun movie. 🙂 It and Creed are my two favorites of the entire series. On a side note, I think the reason Addie thought she recognized Talia Shire who played Adrian is because she also played Connie Corleone in the Godfather and Godfather II which Addie watched for the channel a while back.

Randolph Tirazona

:) Addie!!! :) Since - well when it came out I've been a fan of Starbucks Christmas Blend! I've drank it all last month and still going! lol Try it - you'll like it! :)

Corks

I like how Adrian goes from resisting a first kiss to "You want me to rub you down?" in about 25 minutes. :D On a side note, I grew up with this movie, and it's SO much different as an adult than as a kid. As a fan of history I love how it captures 1970s citiy culture.

Philip Davetas

First of all, you need to address the Rocky films in Roman numerals. Who do you think you are? The 00's?

Lana Gorgeous

Rocky II is really good, but the other sequels start to get silly and more Hollywood. I saw Rocky in the movies when I was 17 and kids my age absolutely loved it. Oh I was a cross country runner, and I tried the raw eggs drink once, yuck. But this was the 70's and years before the delicious protein drinks of today. I think a lot of people my age or older, athletes tried that raw egg drink once after watching Rocky, LMAO :)

Bill W

So what movie DID you see that you didn't like?

Bill W

Yeah, If you're going to watch the whole saga, then watch the whole saga. You'll just discover on your own which ones are worth a re-watch.

Bill W

As far as sequels go, it's good..the 2nd best in the whole saga. No way it's better than the first. Predictable ending.

The Dingo

It wasn't that I thought it was something else; it was just that I hadn't seen it and thought I had.

REDR58

Wonderful reaction, Addie! I hope you visit all of the following movies, including the “Creed” films). As someone who has lots of family in Philadelphia, and lived in and spent lots of time in the city, I love these movies. It’s fascinating watching how much the skyline changes during the run of all of these movies. The city looks so different now from the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art… (minor spoiler) …and that’s where the Rocky statue that will show up in Rocky III is currently located.

Billy Dancel

I was waiting for Rocky IV to begin a marathon but the recent event made me start it now. Thank you, Carl Weathers

Kyle

I can appreciate Rocky V at least as starting the trend of casting real-life boxers as the champion adversaries.
