Spiritstrike

The bounty hunter was doing a specalised technique of firebending called combustionbending

Bryann Kam

Also, the novels reveal how one unlocks the power of combustionbending. Basically, a firebender is chained underwater and forced to concentrate their energy to the centre of their forehead to destroy their chains and escape before they drown. If they succeed, congratulations, you’ve got yourself a combustionbender. If not, well… better luck with the next candidate.

What's interesting about Azula saying her mother thought she was a monster is that she's wrong, that's just her kid brain interpreting what happened in the worst way possible. It's true that Ursa favored Zuko, but she kinda had to, since Ozai wasn't going to give him any love. I often see people blaming Ursa for not noticing that Azula craved her love too, and while she did mess up by not noticing, the entire family was dealt such a bad hand that the consequences were amplified a hundred fold. My headcanon is that the flashback we see of Azula being apathetic in regards to Lu Ten's death is when Ursa finally notices. Her two lines of "What is wrong with that child?" and then "It's time for a talk!" seem to indicate that, and I don't see her ignoring those signs should she have been there afterwards. However, this was cut short, as she was gone the next day. From Azula's POV, she said something to Zuko about his father planning on killing him. Her mother grabbed her to ask her about it, and not long after, she was gone and Zuko didn't die. Azula's last conversation with Ursa was her seeing her mother help Zuko, again, and then she was gone. Since she was already in the mindset that her mother didn't love her, it only amplified that. I don't know if Ursa being there would've meant an actual turnaround for Azula, not all her cruelty as a kid can be explained by her seeking her mother's attention. But I do think it would've helped. The universe had other plans however.

Yeah, the process of creating a combustionbender is essentially like that of a space marine from Warhammer 40,000. An incredibly brutal training regiment with a high mortality rate and an extremely low success rate.

I can't wait for the next episode

It was always strange to see Azula be so socially awkward, previous to this she was an absolute social genius, through out book 2 she was able to know how to manipulate people so well, she was a master at lying, she infiltrated a kingdom through disguise, she orchestrated an entire coup while still being undercover, she turned an army against their leader, but all of a sudden she doesn't know that talking like a psychotic war mongering maniac in a social setting is weird? I always found that part hard to believe.

well id argue its exactly her sociopathic nature and disconnect from empathy that allows her to manipulate and lie so well, and that these traits and her evilness are actively celebrated by those around her (her father for example). however once she is presented with a situation in which being explicitly evil isn't actively praised it baffles her, and the usual mechanisms of manipulation (primarily fear) aren't available to her. that being said I do still understand where ur coming from tho.

you kinda see it in the netball scene, where everything to azula is warfare and a battle. it goes beyond competition, its about destruction, and that mindset is fantastic for social manipulation and espionage, but abhorrent for an actual social life. in the context of warfare she's magnificent, in the context of a normal teenager, she's not.

The more I look at the assassin, the more I see Dave Bautista playing him.
