If you wanna really hyperfixate on X-Men, watch the new show X-Men 97. Holy shit, it may be the best piece of outside media Marvel has ever released (no exaggeration whatsoever) and we’re only 5 episodes in.

Excited to get into this as I’ve never fully watched any of the Fox X-Men movies but I have seen bits and pieces of almost all of them. I remember thinking the X-Men and the other Marvel characters were always separate from each other and only figured out they were all Marvel later. I also want to watch the ‘97 cartoon as I heard it’s amazing but I also want to watch the original 90’s cartoon first before since the ‘97 show is both a revival of the original cartoon and a continuation/sequel of it. I feel you may like it if you do watch it. Also at least for me, I prefer their comic outfits over the leather outfits they wear in this universe. And yes the joke to Wolverine about wearing yellow spandex is in reference to Wolverine as the suit that he wears in the comics, which is pretty much a yellow spandex suit. Another thing that I didn’t actually know is Wolverine in the comics isn’t tall. Hugh Jackman I believe is 6’3 and I always thought that Logan was around that same height but in actuality Wolverine is around 5’3, which I can relate to cause I’m also short lol. But I’m definitely no where near as vicious and aggressive as Logan is, especially in the comics cause he’s had some pretty violent and brutal moments

Agreed its soo good tho I think she should watch the original first its quite a jump from watching the movies to the shows

Narutoanime16

The X-Men world is big and I love even for the time this came out they weren't afraid to go dark with it and it be very real in its politics and real world views, seeing how there all different. The Animated series and the sequel series X-Men 97 go soo hard with it you'll love both whenever you get into it and the character development is handled better too for certain characters. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are the kids of Magneto and both are mutants yes. Wolverine's backstory is even crazier in the animated series too you get everyone's stories

This was exciting! Ive been hyper-fixated on watching the original 90s cartoon before I check out the new show. It’s exceptional and everything it stands for is top notch.

I love the OG, but I gotta disagree. It would take forever to get through the original, and X-Men 97 is way too hype to make us wait. I think it does a decent enough job at explaining what happened, and as long as she has a passing knowledge, which the movies should have given her, I think she’d be fine.

Matthew Cronin

I said it before but these movies don’t get enough credit. They were responsible in a big way for modern superhero movies. Are they the most accurate? Definitely not. But it gets you interested enough to learn more.

All the Marvel Netflix shows are now definitively canon to the MCU; there was a long period where their canon status was nebulous, but Disney recently clarified that.

Aw yeah, it's the CHILDREN OF THE *MOTHER FUCKIN'* ATOM BABY!🤣Have always loved the X-Men from the comics, to cartoons, to games, and the movies. Believe it or not, when the series first started Marvel really struggled to sell it and was eventually cancelled, after that they just reprinted old issues. Then in 1975, writer Chris Claremont brought the team back. Introducing Wolverine (Though not his 1st appearance in the Marvel U), Storm, Nightcrawler (not appearing in this film), Colossus (not appearing in this film), and Thunderbird (not appearing in this film)😄Claremont had a pretty solid 16 year run on the title which went into the 90's. About 99% of the franchise is based off his work, and few them do it any real justice. I think his pairing with artist John Byrne is where the series truly peaked. The Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past are 2 must reads from X-Men. Astonishing X-Men (2004) is also a good place to start for new-blood😁👍

Rogue's real name is Anne Marie❤️In the comics and most media, before joining the X-Men, she was adopted by Mystique and later joined the Brotherhood of Mutants at the time being led by her. They clashed with Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) and the Avengers https://coffee-for-two.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/avengers-annual-10-26.jpg, as well as the X-Men https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/6/65/Uncanny_X-Men_Vol_1_158.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20190524020653 https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFUNr00rF_AjyFfEq8mT-f5GGMSOuFMsIYBdR-iX1XQg5iTFFlLiW0qK6TkuKo2jAYEgMCrIvZFVPr8_V82uQtFuaSIZtVijU-rapVRKoFNdXnsROqVSIic4RsRFlsKvW_e2-KHor_KS54/s1600/xmen158_25.jpg. At one point she permanently absorbed Carol's powers and memories, sending her into a coma. https://cdn.marvel.com/content/1x/carol-rogue-fight.jpg She started to suffer more acutley from having Danvers' memories. Desperate, she ran away from home and turned to Charles Xavier for help. Being charitable to all mutants, he took her in to help her, and she joined the team. Being good pals with Carol the others were less than happy to have her there https://shadowandflamewithmagik.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/x-men-classic-75-kitty-5.jpg But it doesn't take long for her to prove herself https://cdn.marvel.com/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/6/50/58d97d2b532a0/clean.jpg https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-b46c56218397b3ca1fe0008ae6066ba8 and she joins the X-Family! https://static.tumblr.com/56e877903b72bed885b1de43c4ecd6b7/sbzgljm/MVJp6l218/tumblr_static_8nw63q7os24occ0s08s844w08_2048_v2.png Getting to know you during these last two years, I'm pretty positive that you'll love Rogue & Gambit's relationship when the time comes😄 https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/goodcomics/2015/10/gambitroguedisplay.jpg Since the character is a little different in the movies, I thought I'd give you quick little rundown on her.. along with some comic panels, because why not😉

Yeah Wolverine is a big ol' hairy father-figure to all the girls: https://64.media.tumblr.com/78b724b2705cc39e8702e3f6cf7dd5dd/tumblr_inline_nqzhmp8S411r24r6r_500.png https://www.supermegamonkey.net/chronocomic/entries/scans9/UX196_Cigar.jpg https://nexushub.co.za/images/gallery/00001/1684_feat_wolviedaddy_02.jpg https://afrofantasy.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/wolvieidie.jpg, and also https://i.pinimg.com/originals/4d/a3/f9/4da3f99b321aa61626968eaa053c6a96.jpg Cute😂❤️It's a fantastic contrast: with the battle-hardened, grim Logan and a younger, more innocent hero that he tries to guide and protect. In return, they bring out the caring side of a character that is tortured and dark, helping bring an almost redemptive quality.

The Stan Lee Cameo was where Senator Kelly was naked on the beach, Stan Lee is one of the people on the beach. It's easy to miss. As you mentioned Xmen was written as a commentary on racism and segregation in America, the first comic was in the early 60s I think. Good on Stan Lee for highlighting those issues and being on the right side of history. I saw this movie when I was nine in theaters and remember crying at the scene at the end where Rogue almost dies and Logan is holding her. I have a really good memory about movies I saw as a kid for some reason.

Also the actor who played Toad played Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace." He's a stunt guy and martial arts expert. However it was a different actor that provided the voice of Darth Maul. Maul said like 2 sentences in the entire star wars movie and it was a different actor who dubbed them in.

Good timing with X-Men '97 making waves. Even in its comics inception X-Men was all about civil rights movements and how people who are born different struggle to make their own way. Will always prefer the First Class trilogy but this one walked so it could run. The kind of role that Patrick Stewart was born for.

Residentfan 1

Stan was born into a Jewish family. His parents fled Romania to escape antisemitism and he fought in WW2. He had previously protested for America to get involved before Pearl Harbor. And while he didn’t know about the camps, he knew that Hitler was limiting their rights over there because Hitler was very open about that. When the civil rights movement happened, he knew what was up. He had seen it before. You could argue that Magneto’s “Never again” attitude is a type of 4th wall break. “Never again” is the message Stan was sending when he created the X-Men.

Residentfan 1

The problem with Magneto’s actions being classified as terrorism is that by that logic the founding fathers, the French commoners in the French Revolution and the German Resistance in WWII would all be terrorists. They fought against their own government to make life better for their people but they’re hailed as heroes. Magneto is doing the same thing they’re doing but he’s the villain of this film. That’s why terrorism is such a dangerous word. It’s used to discredit organizations that just want peace. Not saying every organization that gets labeled as terrorists are innocent. I’m just saying the word gets attached to certain good groups too in order to sow fear and turn the public against that group. A prime modern day example of this would be BLM. Politicians claimed they were terrorists and the sheeple believed it.

Residentfan 1

Rogue’s parents did touch her. They said earlier in the movie that mutant powers surface during puberty.

Residentfan 1

Magneto called them Homo Sapiens because mutants are the next evolution of humans. Humans are to mutants what the apes are to them. They’re a different species. Also Magneto stopped the bullet. He even said “Do you want to press your luck Charles? I don’t think I can stop them all!”

Residentfan 1

When Toad says “you people” he’s not talking about mutants. He’s talking about X-Men. So no he’s not one of those people. Also Wolverine knew that Storm was Mystique because of her scent. The name Wolverine doesn’t just come from being resilient and having claws. He has enhanced senses. There’s actually multiple points in the movie where they show his nose twitching. And you can hear him sniffing when Storm(Mystique) approaches him. Mystique had Storm’s looks but not her scent.

Mage Reacts

Omg, Ray!!!! I love him lol now appreciate Toad more.

Mage Reacts

Thank you for this, you are right! It takes much to unlearn that "terrorism" unconcious bias especially if you grew up in the generation I did. But I totally agree, the word is a tool for those in power.

Residentfan 1

Most of them do. There’s a whole thing where some of the more hardcore mutants consider their mutant name as their real name and their birth name as a dead name. But the X-Men don’t care for that. It’s mostly Magneto’s people who do that. That’s why Magneto only refers to Toad as Toad, Mystique as Mystique and Sabertooth as Sabertooth. Their birth names are Mortimer Toynbee, Raven Darkholm and Victor Creed. Jean Grey used to be called Marvel Girl but the writers stopped using that name for her because of the introduction of Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel. Too many Marvels. Some of the names are super lazy. There’s a character who goes by Jubilee who causes things to explode which sounds clever until you realize that her full name is Jubilation Lee.

Residentfan 1

Don’t worry. I’m not much younger than you and I only recently got out of that train of thought. Also sorry for the huge amount of comments. I tend to comment things as they come up rather than make note of them and wait for the video to end and address all points in one comment. Something else I gotta work on.

Narutoanime16

They don’t really explain it here but Sabertooth and Wolverine are very similar , they both have healing factors & were part of the same program . It’s explained better in the cartoons honestly the backstory of them, Wolverine also has heightened senses he can smell really good that’s how he knew Mystique was being Storm

Casey

So glad you enjoyed this! X-Men is my favorite Marvel superheroes! Wolverine in particular is one of my favorite comic book characters, but yeah, all the X-Men are awesome 😁

Casey

Oh and for comic recommendations, I would highly recommend X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills by Chris Claremont and Brent Eric Anderson, as well as a Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller

Todd “Canuck” Schmuck

Yeah, while they used to explore that more in some shows and movies(Star Trek Deep space 9 in the 90’s had a former terrorist/resistance member from an occupied planet as first officer), after 9/11 Hollywood was too scared to go near the topic. With the original comics, Stan Lee was inspired by MLK jr. and Malcolm X when creating the characters of Magneto and Prof. X(making Prof. X the one modeled after Malcolm X was a bit too on the nose, so he did an Iceland/Greenland on the names). There are plenty of debates about what should or shouldn’t be permitted when fighting against subjugation(it’s not a coincidence that two of the countries offering the most support to Palestinians over the years have been Ireland and South Africa).

watchover

when you finish all the movies you should also se xmen 90s e 97 cartoon

VA for Maul was Peter Serafinowicz.
