So I was excited for this episode since this introduces you to Doctor Fate. They don’t state it in the episode but his real name is Kent Nelson and he is the first person to take on the mantle. Doctor Fate is one of the most powerful magic users in DC and a founding member of the Justice Society of America (the first superhero team that existed mainly during WWII and was a prelude to the Justice League). And as you said, Fate is similar to Marvel's Doctor Strange. Although Doctor Fate was introduced in the comics first in 1940, whereas Strange was in 1963. But Doctor Fate is such an amazing cool character and you're right that his costume is really cool. Also this episode I believe also gives you an introduction to another one of Superman's weaknesses, magic. The reason why Superman was having a hard time defeating Karkull is due to the fact that Superman is vulnerable to magic. It's kind of hard to explain but from what I understand, magic doesn't affect Superman in the same way Kryptonite does but it can affect and damage him as he doesn’t have any sort of defense to it. As you saw Karkull doing. But this was really great and this also opens the door even more for you to be introduced to the more magical and supernatural side of DC. So far you've met Zatanna and now Doctor Fate. Can't wait for you to eventually meet more magic users in DC! Also we are so close to the end of S2 and I can't wait! Also it's perfect you posted a STAS reaction today as it marks a special day for Superman. Today marks the 86th anniversary of Superman's debut appearance in Action Comics #1 in 1938

More Superman is always appreciated😉Meet Dr. Fate, one of the most powerful dudes in the DCU.

You just met another superhero from the larger DC world, Dr Fate! I haven’t watch the reaction yet but you saw that he’s basically DC’s Dr Strange but Fate came first. Aside from the similarities to magic and both have Doctor in their names, they’re very different. Fate is a interesting character because of the concept of the helmet of Fate and how anyone wearing it is forever the vessel of Nabu and that Kent Nelson (Fate’s real name) is the first and most known person to take the role as others wore the helmet over the years.

This episode gave me nightmares in the 90s. It's the demon transformations that got me, it was very vivid, props to the animators. I'm not aware of any superman horror movies Meg, but they did release a batman horror animated movie a few years ago, "The Doom that came to Gotham." It's not the best, but it's not bad either. And yes that's his wife Inza. Now all I know of Dr. Fate is from the cartoon Young Justice (Which is amazing by the way) and in that cartoon whenever he puts on the Dr. Fate helmet he has to give up control of his body and the helmet takes complete control of his body. So I get why he's tired of this, he literally has no control, no agency over his body and is forced to let the helmet control him like a puppet.

Yeah this was the first episode that debuted Dr. Fate into the DCAU! Seems he could also actually take the helmet off back then too. Also that lady was just his assistant I think. By the way Meg like I said, I hope you start watching Static Shock too very soon!

The Gods of Fate and Order aren’t like Zeus or Thor where they’re just physical beings hanging around in a location, they’re more abstract and only manifest themselves through things like a magical artifact (what Dr Fate uses) or some sort of ritual or spell that allows a small fraction of their being to manifest.

Glad Karkull (pass) didn't scare you too much. A unique episode introducing us to Dr. Fate, the DC equivalent of Dr. Strange. Superman is not exactly weak against magic, but his incredible physical toughness means less against it. Fate and Inza return in Justice League, though not as regular members.

Mage Reacts

Wooohoo, wifey! I'm excited for Young Justice. 👀

I don’t know a whole lot about Dr. Fate, but I do enjoy his character whenever he pops up in a story I’m reading/warching. I do know that in one Marvel/DC crossover where Marvel and DC characters were combined into new characters, Dr. Fate and Dr. Strange were combined into Dr. Strangefate lol

Not sure if anyone else has explained this, but Superman is vulnerable to magic. It kinda operates outside of the rules of science which is why it can hurt him.
